Should i always go with AMD if i am a Linux gamer?, i have a Nvidia GPU in my current build and it works quite well but i hear AMD is preferred for the open source drivers

Nah, it's always a coin toss.
I had no trouble with my GTX 1060 on Linux Mint, five years ago. But now I keep hearing people not getting their RTX drivers to install on Mint, while Bazzite works fine or something.

tl;dr: if you want to play it safe, don't be an early adopter, and use a couple years older hardware.
