Whats the best modern CRPG?
>>
Pillars of Eternity.
Although, it ultimately really depends.
>>
>>726117006
These games fucking suck.
>>
last one i played and enjoyed is Colony Ship. the setting, combat, companions(they barely talk) are all pretty solid
>>
>>726117006
all areelu had to do was to ask me for sex and transplant my soul into the baby
>>
>>726117006
Divinity original sin 1&2
>>
>>726117785
Combat is fine on hero difficulty, but the difficulty spikes sometimes. Like fight with the worm, or final gauntlet
>>
>>726117006
Baldur's Gate 3 gets so tedious near the end of Act 3. Every fucking fight is like 30 bad guys versus 4 of you.
>>
dos2 still the best for gameplay
>>
>>726117006
Chinese RPG?
>>
>>726117006
All these games suck. If you're not entirely sick of rtwpslop after playing a game or two, you're mentally ill.
>>
>>726117006
Rogue Trader
>>
Baldur's Gate 3 is probably a better game than Wrath of the Righteous overall but I think I probably prefer the latter because act 3 of BG3 is so anemic and cramped. If the entirety of BG3 was as good as its act 1 then it would be the best game ever made.

My personal is Pillars of Eternity
BUT
in terms of actual reach and impact, it's by default BG3 and will remain so until another company shoots for upper AA production values. I have my suspicions that Obsidian is aiming for it, and testing how well they can refine turn-based with their PoE1 turn-based beta at the moment. They already have higher-quality assets from Avowed for the setting. Reusing and creating new assets of that quality and putting them into a full CRPG takes a lot of that initial load off.

Or it might just be personal copium for a AA Pillars of Eternity 3... I'll admit that's a strong possibility.

Isn't Pillars and Tyranny too old at this point to be "modern crpgs"? Can replace with Rogue Trader and such
>>
>>726119706
>>726118924
>modern
>from a decade ago
>>
>>726121037
this. Forspoken is what you're looking for
>>
>>726121218
nta but Forspoken is an ARPG (a bad one), not a CRPG

Depends on which system you like the most. BG3 is a pretty good game and the one I'd recommend to someone starting in the genre but despite their best efforts and homebrew 5E isn't exactly the most complex system so while the learning curve is non-existent the potential at the top doesn't feel as good either. WotR has the opposite problem absolutely great when you understand the system but getting to the point where you understand the system is difficult, IMO though it still captures the feeling of power the best even if the gameplay doesn't always reflect that. RT is another contender and afaik the major bugs aren't there anymore so I'd probably consider it my 2nd pick as a recommendation to people. System isn't too difficult to pick up but also has some decent top-end potential, granted the game is super player-sided so it becomes really necessary to optimize builds.

I'll admit I've played but never finished both of the pillars games. I'm fairly certain I was enjoying them but never found the motivation to finish. Not sure why, since I've always like the aesthetic of the nature and moon godlikes, while the druid's stag spiritshape has to be my favorite were-form in vidya

Baldur's Gate 3 > Divinity Original Sin 2 > Shadowrun Dragonfall >>>>>>> Woke of the Righteous > Shadowrun Hong Kong > Pillars of Eternity

>If the entirety of BG3 was as good as its act 1 then it would be the best game ever made.
Act 1 is polished, and the dungeoneering is all right, but it suffers from poor macro-writing and honestly bland encounter design outside of setpiece fights.

Pillars my beloved....
>>
>>726120951
kys zoomer
>>
>>726121992
Oh right I forgot tyranny. I finished it a long time ago, did not leave much of an impact but it was okay. Despite being the "villain" CRPG I just ran independent and watched as every region barring one devolved into me defending myself from people who won't listen and attack first. On the note of modern CRPGs are we counting wasteland 3? Because I'd toss it in the ring as well. DLCs are kinda ehh but the base game is pretty fun and the system is not as difficult to understand as it first looks
>>
>>726117006
In terms of mechanics Wrath is easily the best one if you want to look at numbers and have build diversity
>>
>>726122541
Not a zoomer. Those games are a decade old.
>>
>>726122718
Pillars and Tyranny really did the modern crpg ball rolling, so it's fair to say that they were the first of the modern generation. Kingmaker came out only a few years after those releases and laid the ground for Wrath and RT to succeed.

Pillars 1 is a good game with a crushingly dull finale –Twin Elms – ensuring that a player's last thoughts about their experience will be negative. Take note, Obsidian: endings are important. If Pillars 1 had ended on a high note, if we hadn't needed a tremendous act of willpower to force ourselves through the drudgery of Twin Elms, I'm sure Pillars 2 would have sold better than it did.

I hope so anon but apparently we're just getting Avowed 2
