Wait, so Spellforce is basically an RPS (role-playing strategy), the kind of RTS/RPG hybrid Blizzard was originally intending for Warcraft 3?

Maybe?
I played arpg rts hybrid - Wars and Warriors: Jean of Arc.

Spellforce is underrated. Spellforce 2 is even better. I still remember the opening cinematic. It's a shame that Spellforce 3 and on didn't live up to that. What a fucking shame.

At the time, Spellforce made it look so simple that I just couldn't believe for the life of me that a studio like Blizzard couldn't do it.

What a game. Had a demo of it from a DVD included with a magazine.

I have a CD of it, but I never finished it as a kid. I didn't really understand at the time how the rts part of it worked, so I cheesed the game with power attacks and explosive arrows.

yes.
I still think Warlords Battlecry did it the best.
In an ideal world wed get a combination of Warlords battlecry, dawn of war 2, kingdom under fire and Spellforce

Despite what the fans say, the first game plays like ass. Expansions increased the difficulty without addressing any of the issues, so they are even more tiresome to play. The second game might be dumbed down, but unlike the first one, it's pretty enjoyable to play. I tried getting into the third one, but couldn't stand it at all, so make of it what you will. Also, the RTS/RPG mechanics are much better implemented in Warcraft 3, even if they are much more simplistic.

Second game has million versions, it seems.
>>
>>726119130
Almost. The RTS part felt like an afterthought from what I remember playing.
>>

I glossed over these games because their covers are generic half-naked slut elves and, just like my taste in women, I have no interest in an RPG that actively rejects common sense so proudly.

Armies of Exigo and Rising Kingdoms are better.

>Armies of Exigo
Heard about this, but not Rising Kingdoms.
