As you get older do you find yourself more intrigued in story focused games or less? Or are you indifferent
>>726120626Less. Unless it is a really good story. AAA slop hasn't delivered a good story in a very very long time.
nice touch on including poop game at the end
Indifferent. Stories in games largely suck but if it sets a mood I tolerate it, like Max Payne.
>>726120626I read a lot of good fiction before, there is a reason why we talked about spec ops for a decade, stories in games usually just servisable and use medium for some low cost things like notes
Less, but mostly because the writing is so much worse for most games, even compared to the time when the whole plot was written on a napkin by a programmer during lunch break, and secondly I'm regularly reading books and vidya stories rarely live up to even a mediocre novel. There's also something to be said for the lost art of emergent storytelling.
>>726120626no, I avoid modern games trying to be movies, they usually written by some Sweet Baby-adjacent turd anyway.snoy movie-game storymandatory walk-and-talk sectionsMCU writing and Californication quipslectures about how ebil white man is and general woke messaging#avoid
Most of those aren't really story-focused to be desu with youI did play Uncharted 4 for the first time last year cause I'm old enough that I've played enough real fucking video games so it can be nice to occasionally play a talky game with some shooting
>>726120626lessget me to the fucking gamei don't have time to be wasting on dumb cinematics
The last good story I played was Automata, back in 2019.E33 I got up to Serene but there is literally no story besides Paintress kills niggas every year. I don't care about Gustave.
>>726121892>but there is literally no story besides Paintress kills niggas every yearheh
>>726120626Significantly less. Most modern games don't tell a story that I haven't seen 15652 times already or has some political propaganda angle I don't care about. I put more time into indies that are purely gameplay focused like Balatro and Ball x Pit nowadays than AAA singleplayer stuff.
>>726121892Anon...
Less, video game writing sucks ass.
>>726120626Nowadays I often just want something I can boot up and play for a few minutes, or arcade style games with scores/ranking systems, like Luigi's Mansion or Star Fox 64.
>>726120626I like a good story, it's just that most games are very sameish feeling so I get fatigued very easily if they overwhelm me with a bunch of loredropping and it's especially annoying if it's shit like Elf but named differently, Orc but named differently, Vampire but named differently, like either be original or just use tropes fully. Especially tiring are gachas, every single fucking gacha has the SAME character designs, outfits, voice acting styles, dialogue tropes, archetype tropes, and they just slightly change it up, even the fucking currencies and UI is the same but with different naming, drives me nuts and gives me instant fatigue
>>726120626less. if I have to constantly read text boxes with tiny font or watch mo-capped cutscenes of b-list actors that go on for 10+ minutes i'm out because I can literally go read or watch a film for an experience thats 100 times better. this has always been true and the only time I ever disagreed was when I was a dumb teenager who thought MGS was 'genius'. now i'm 37 and get to watch kids think Death Stranding is 'deep' or interesting knowing in about 10 years they'll be cringing about it like I did.
>>726120626As I've grown older I've stopped finding high octane games and now I'd rather play cozy games or MMOs that usually don't put you over the edge.
>>726120626pic unrelated?
>>726120626I'm not big on most of the movie games desuonly one I intend to play is MGS4. It's still in the shrink wrap. It haunts me. I tried to turn it in to the local gamestop and the clerk refused it out of some antitheft policy. I can't just give it away or open it without playing it.
