I remember at the store when I was a kid with some money I had enough to either get Total Annihilation of Diablo. I mean, I enjoyed TA but looking back I wish I had gone with Diablo. I did later go on to buy Diablo 2 on release day but I was almost out of my teens by then.

I love the lore behind the butcher... I always wondered what the deal is with Wort the peg leg kid... Turns out him and his friends were playing inside the crypt when they stumbled upon the butchers room, they were all killed except for Wort who had one leg cut off by the butcher and was just about to get slaughtered and was saved by Griswold.

I actually liked having to chase down some enemies, using the environment to create chokepoints, etc. I liked the feeling of mostly just going through the dungeon down into hell. My only real issue with it is that harder sections just became a loop of burn through potions -> go back to town for more potions -> return to dungeon. It didn't feel like there was much of a test of skill. There's probably not much you can really do about it, Diablo 2 still had the same issue sometimes.
