You are forced to go manual for Story and Chaos runs, as well as the captain promotion missions. Hardest content is turning on Nightmare-mode for shit to get higher quality cards/loot drops. Oh and after a point the game starts trolling you with variant enemies who are batshit overtuned depending on its base species. Common enemies are much more dangerous than bosses half the time lol.Nightmare mode also gives you pretty brutal shadow puppet death scenes via the chibi sprites getting mauled by the enemies when you lose a run. So you get to see shit like your waifu turning into goo then torn apart by a corrupted forest god, ash babied via laser beams, flattened like a pancake by a mutant gorilla, impaled on a pike and fed to giant wasps, ect. Devs are kinda psycho with some of these kills.

It allowed it to abstract a lot of stuff to have more elobrate and frequent side story content while also giving the feeling of how mazelike and hazardous the areas were. Its main problem was that most of your time was spent in it rather than controlling the agents you pulled. The animations were to long for just navigating, the "cutscenes" would just have cells shifting around and went on to long, and the puzzle content was to brain dead to feel fun.
