When Remake was announced, fans were concerned that the games would be too grimdark and overserious like the other FF7 sequels which completely lack the charm and fun of the original. Rebirth did exactly that and now people complain that it isn't serious enough.I think the main story scenes of Rebirth play it fairly straight, they've maybe gone a bit far with the side content and characters which are near universally silly and that kind of bleeds into the perception of the main storyline.Tonally, I expect that Rebirth will be a diversion period and that the third game will be much more "serious" but that kind of disappoints me, hopefully it isn't charmless like other modern media
