I literally had an airsoft gun that sounded just like this thing.
Odd how they did such a good job with the sound design for the sci-fi weapons but the conventional ones all sound like complete ass compared to the first game.
how do you go from the hl1 pisol to this piece of shit? wtf is valves problem?
I like the weapon sounds. That MMod makes them sound generic.

HL1 had its own gun sound problems, like the MP5SD sounding like some kind of a belt fed machine gun somehow and the glock having a weird pew pew sound, but they too were charming.

My conspiracy theory is that they deliberately made the starter pistol sound shitty on purpose so the revolver would sound way punchier by comparison.

A lot of older "good graphics" games didn't really go for realistic lighting as texture detail so much as they went for highly noticeable detail in order to show off the tech.

Games that do this are a lot more fun. I'm not saying it should be realistic, because it shouldn't, what's important is to feel the energy, the actual force of the gun. The shotgun and magnum in hl are one, if not the best weapons in videogames ever.
