And then, Fern and Stark are introduced with some potential too but are just GARBAGE. Weak-ish magic like in Conan can just be powered through with raw strength and willpower.
High-ish magic can also be powered through with strength and will, if you go by the old-timey rule that if a level 99 mage can slice up a mountain with a spell then a level 99 warrior can slice a mountain up with his sword.

Fair, but you're dealing with a character who's lived long enough to watch everyone she's cared about slowly die.
She was already jaded when her "pre-story" party did the whole hero's journey, now she's just stuck with new faces for the umpteenth time and she finds it hard to put any effort in to learning, caring or fitting in with the times.

Imagine if you were a thousand years old and willingly isolated, you'd come back to some place you visited a hundred years ago to find out they've turned in to a whole surveillance state - you'd probably ignore all the laws and regulations they try to force on your ancient ass, while giving very little heed to the people who gather around you.

That's what Frieren's character is all about - trying to depict what it's like to just have what feels like immortality compared to the average life-span of others.

I'm not even 40 years old and I'm already finding her kinda relatable, I can't even imagine how bad it'll get if I live to see what old age is like
At least she has perpetual youth, while we have to deal with aching joints, cold and bitterness

Frieren is also much worse off in this regard than other elves - she self-isolated in a forest for hundreds of years, probably due to unrecognized grief after the death of her human Master.

It took Himmel, a hero who was the epitome of goodness and kindness, to snap her out of it, and even then she only realized it while lilterally standing over his corpse.

The real low point for her will come when she realizes she doesn't just miss him as a friend, but that she actually loved him.

I wouldn't be surprised if the ending involved her giving up on her immortality to join him in Heaven.

I understand what you're saying, but my criticism isn't about her demeanor during the day to day monotony of existence. Whether someone is 20, 40, 60, or 600, I would still expect them to switch the fuck on if they got into a fight where they could die or be seriously injured. For a jaded character like Frieran, I would even expect such moments to be the only time when she feels alive. Imagine if that was her flaw; that she's drawn to suicidal things because the thrill of it always beats another day of feeling nothing.

1. it was stuck in the Epic store during a time when it was barely functional and had 0 advertising for it on the store's front page
2. released at the height of Fortnite's 2nd wave of popularity
3. it had barely any progression incentives so most players lost interest
4. a small playerbase in a competitive game where the skill floor is high is a recipe for losing new players in their first 2 hours. the game would have worked much better as an arcade style battle arena than a cutthroat battle royal

it truly was a shame, the game had something really special with it's gameplay.

Yeah, most games don't put any effort in their magic systems. There are very few real-time 3D action games which have any complexity and depth to it.
