Overall it was fine. Wouldn't recommend anyone to play it instead of the original but I do recommend playing it in addition to the original. It's fun to see Silent Hill 2 with modern graphics, modern gameplay and expanded levels, even if a lot of them are arguably expanded a bit too much and overstay their welcome.

I think it's fine being it's a different game, so it's not like it replaces the original, well despite the fact Konami won't release the original. What does bother me is while they changed the designs and appearances of characters, a lot of the original dialog is featured, and hearing it come out differently just throws me off. My absolute favorite part of the game is the way that they adapted and recaptured the look and feel of the original games prerendered scenes, puzzles/item pickups. I've seen people cherry pick their examples where the original still looks "better" but in reality, this is all in real time lol. This looks fucking bonkers in comparison. Way, way better. HUGEFor some reason there is no analog walk speed for controller so you can't push forward slightly and have James inch forward, push forward all the way to make him walk full speed. This mod enables that so you can walk slower in an immersive way and it also increases James max walking/running speed. You can set it increase speed by about 15% and that feels really natural without giving you too much of an advantage. It feels more in line with the original pace, it makes a huge difference when traversing the game and you could literally shave at least an hour or two off your time with this. You suddenly don't feel weighed down in sludge, and running past enemies feels a lot more like the original game.

In fact, if you played the original game you already know that there are not only the same amount of enemies (bit more in the remake due to larger areas, but still the same amount in terms of proportions), but also the remake has less bullets, forcing you to use melee a lot more. its spooky and the combat is good, i don't like the aesthetics and atmosphere as much, it has that "realistic" look that all modern games have that turns off a bit.it feels slightly dragged out though and graphics definitely makes it more generic

All the things that the demake does well is done better or is good because it's from the original. Almost all of the additions are slop or change the game for the worse. The script and OST is worse than the original. The padding is worse than the original. The Eddie boss fight is alright.
