I don't care about spoiling it. Fire me. The demon portal thing they built in the desert really is teasing HLX. The huge twist right out the gate is that the Vortigaunts and Combine aren't the only other-worldly invaders. There are real demons now too. The game cold opens with Freeman bungeeing off a helicopter onto an icebreaker ship (Experimental Research vessel Borealis). Some time has passed since the ending of HL2 and HL:Alex is assumed to be non-canon or retconned as she contacts you via hologram occasionally and it seems that her father did die back before you left on the heli. It becomes apparent very early on that another force is vying for the secrets held on the research vessel. Demonic portals open up spewing hoardes of demons and Freeman uses new tech (literally) to put them down, even teaming up with the Combine later on as the threat becomes too much for either side. The game mainly takes place aboard the vessel but portals will take you all across the world (and other worlds). One such drops you out in a desert, liely what is being teased. Snow blowing out of the portal and onto the sand in real time. There are no loading transitions. The game is entirely seamless, even as you traverse between worlds and locations. Effects carry over through portals, sand, snow, sparks, projectiles, everything. This ties into puzzles and combat. You eventually get a Aperture Science portal gun which is used for the first time ever in a combat perspective. Aiming weapons and machines through them and using it in new ways to progress.

I thought they would do something like that for HLX (because the leakers are adamant it will NOT be announced at TGA), but it's only a week left till TGA.
