What are the best JRPGs in the genre that every fan must play? This spans over all console generations+PC and this is also considering originals, remasters, and remakes.
>>727507245romancing saga 2 (super famicom)
>>727507245Too many to list. You need to be more specific.
>>727507245The Trails series.
>>727507245most recent one I've enjoyed is Atelier Sophie 2, weak story but very good combat mechanics
>>727508101it's surreal to me what that game was doing 30 years ago
One golden age 3D Final Fantasy game (7 - 10)One SRPG (Fire Emblem, Tactics Ogre, FFT)One Action RPG (Tales of, Ys, Xenoblade)One monster training game (Pokemon, SMT)
Must play, as in not the actual best, but the most influential/culturally important/essential>chrono trigger>final fantasies 4 through 10>any Dragon Quest game, though probably 3, 5, 8 or 11>kingdom hearts games>mario RPGs >early pokemon>phantasy star series>romancing saga 1-3>shin megami tensei iii>ys 1-2>trails series>persona 3-5>xenogears>dark souls/bloodborne/elden ring>xenoblade 1>earthbound/mother 3>tales games (symphonia, vesperia, berseria are the best)>golden sun>nier automato>suikoden 1-2>grandia 1 and 2>fire emblem 1, 4, and 7
>>727508321>Final Fantasy 9>Fire Emblem 7>Nier Replicant>SMT V Vengeance
>>727507245Final Fantasy IV, VI, VII, and X. X and VII are my favorites, IV and VI more because of genre fundamentals making them "must play" games. Final Fantasy Tactics still is among the top SRPGs and should be played as well.Dragon Quest I and III. Both of these are basically JRPG meccaJRPG fans should play Suikoden II, but in that case they should also play the first Suikoden to enrich the experience (and carry their save over). I haven't played the HD remakes, but I hear very little bad about them. The originals are fine too and have been among my favorite games for decades. After that, it's more of just my favorites over what I consider must-plays
>>727508226Where do i start with this one?I think its the one major JRPG franchise i never touched before
>>727508570Oh, and I guess Chrono Trigger should be thrown into the mix of must plays. Don't know how tf I forgot fucking Chrono Trigger
>>727508593Trails in the Sky
>>727508593In release order starting from Trails in the Sky, the Trails series is linear in release order, but it's one giant story so you can't really jump into the middle of it.
>>727507245Xenogears absolutely
>>727508458>final fantasies 4 through 10Wouldn't Final Fantasy 1 be the most important or influential?
>>727508873yeah but the early final fantasies are actually badlike, gamebreaking bugs and uninterestingunlike early dragon quest which shows it's age but is still completely playable and functional even from game 1
>>727508873Maybe, it does have your staple jobs. Many iconic monsters actually made their debut in 2. 3 also has a surprising amount of weight to its legacy but it's a more unknown title outside due to never being released until the 3d remake on the DS.
>>727508873Just because something is the first in a franchise doesn't mean it's good or influential. It just means it barely made enough money to greenlight a sequel. Batman and superman are household names, no comic fan would say "batman issue #1 is the best and most influential comic of all time, it's mandatory reading!"As for final fantasy, 6-10 is more accurate of a curation, exclude 8.
ff7-14 and other ff games, rance, some eushully games, xenogears that's pretty much it, the anime style like trails, ys, xenoblade looking ones look ghey to me
>>727508226The Legend of Heroes: A Tear of Vermillion is a gem
>>727507245Jrpg is not a genreIm replaying etrian odyssey now in hd
>>727511449>Jrpg is not a genreIt's RPGs made in Japan or with Japanese influences. Sounds like a genre to me.
>>727508458>dark souls/bloodborne/elden ringNot RPGs nor JRPGs. Try again.
