Atari's lack of quality control straight up killed the industry for years. Sega and Xbox merely shrink in size as a result of continuous stupid decisions, with Xbox's retardation being permanently cushioned by Microsoft's infinite money.

Sega because there were numerous, well-intentioned people who threw up warning signals for year and SoJ management ignored them all. Atari never came back after 1983. Xbox really gave up after the One wasn't a hit, they didn't even have a Sega-type internal fight over it.

Sega left the console market, but it still is strong enough to produce games and side media.

If you can believe it the initial plan was to release TWO consoles, one 32 but and one 64.
>>
>>727810379
Atari managed to cause the first major vidya crash and made sock puppet companies to con people into investing by making the illusion of a booming industry. Activision may have initially been one of these but that's up for debate.
There's no contest, Atari's death is like a bloated whale carcass next to two dead ants.

Kalinske was screaming at them for years that the future was 3D, no one in America would want an arcade port focused system, and that they needed a Sonic game and if they couldn't do these things they should have stayed on the Genesis for longer. Sega. They had an amazing console but invested too much into online before "console gamers" knew the potential of online play. Then their flagship online title PSOv.1 came out when it was already too late and the PS2 had already capsized the Dreamcast. If Sega really wanted to sell their online gaming to consumers they should have had PSOv.1 ready to go by July or the start of August 2000 in North America in order for word of mouth to get around and cancel out PS2 hype. Do a double add campaign with Quake 3 Arena to sell it to the Amerimutts. But solely relying off of Quake 3 to sell the online was not enough to eclipse the PS2. Plus Quake 3 Arena came out mere days before the PS2 launch. Bad fucking move.

Xbox imo had the best console death. They brought a lot of shit to the industry and tried to jew gamers out of owning titles. Xbox died the day Peter Moore got kicked. I don't like the guy personally, but he did invest in studios that made GAMES! But his head needed to roll after he caused the RRoD fiasco and I'm pretty sure that's kind of the "real reason" why he was fired.

Atari was doomed since the Tramiel family gained control of it. They were always blinded by attaining money which is typical of Jews like them. It bit them in the ass constantly and it just ended up catching up to them. They were just chasing trends with no real plan. Jag was launched quickly without enough dev time cause the company ended up getting strapped for cash cause of massive previous failures. Almost a nothing burger really. Only worse deaths than them would be 3do or Ouya. But as anon said here >>727811715 pretty much sums up both of them. At least the 3do guy spends his days hitting on college age girls and coasting off of a uni professor salary.

Sega was the most tragic. Microsoft won't be effected at all by the Xbox they wipe their ass with the kind of money they lost on that so that one's the biggest nothing burger. Atari hasn't don't anything good since they decided to publish temple of elemental evil for troika.

Sega on the other hand used to make incredible games but they lost their passion and pride with the loss of their hardware business. Same will happen to Nintendo if they ever met the same fate they'll be a shadow of their former self.

I thought about making a long video showing the (de)evolution of the Xbox brand over time, starting with Halo, Ninja Gaiden, DOA, Fable and Gears of War, then declining after the Kinect. But I realized that they never had a strong brand identity to begin with. Very quickly third parties took over with shit like Call of Duty and Skyrim, and Xbox never really capitalized on that. They acquired those studios many years later, but that was well after their brand identity was completely diluted.

Hardcore gamers yes, but normies were far more into the Wii at the time. Xbox lost hardcore gamers because of the Kinect making their brand look lame and gay, then the Xbox One was a killing blow that gave everything to Sony.

Normies is an interesting case. Older normies play games as a fad and quit after a while (see: Wii, iPhone apps), but the the kids who grow up with Nintendo consoles eventually move onto adult consoles (Xbox, PlayStation) and maybe even PC gaming.
