I know some of that can be worked around with programs but I don't have the time to dick around with my pc for 30 mins every time I want to play a different game. Steam os/proton has really been accelerating the process of making these games playable on Linux though, so I'm pretty optimistic about the future. The second my library is 75% Linux compatible, I'll make the switch. Windows has somehow made me feel inferior to mac users after years of superiority and it just doesn't feel right. Because the experience of trying to use Linux as a serious OS is still inferior to debloated win 11.>B-BUT LINUX JUST WERKS FOR ME!!!Good for you. But with so many distros, kernels, configurations and wonky compability with hardware it's really hard to have a consistent experience with Linux. It will just work for some people, others will have to go through lots of troubleshooting hell until they give up and go back to windows. Until things improve Linux is still at best a hobby OS to be used alongside windows.
>>727934164>But with so many distros, kernels, configurations and wonky compability with hardwareyou do realize that linux itself handles 99% of the hardware compatibility right? if it's good enough for valve it'll be good enough for the retards on this board.

You spent the rest of this post going on a tangent about widespread adoption for normalfags who don't research anything in advance but clarified that you use a tinkered Windows normalfags won't use. It sounds like you could easily find a distro compatible with your hardware, likely the large majority are out of the box unless you have nvidia.

>>727928359Nvidia is now writing code in the kernel, and there's new open source drivers like nova being written by people on Nvidias payroll. It's one positive side effect of the AI boom and their own game streaming service in that they need to support Linux now. But all these drivers take time. Amds open source drivers took like 5 years before they were caught up and starting to make improvements over the proprietary drivers, and Nvidia will probably take about as long.

>>727969010The fact that mint devs dont make linux mint XFCE look like OP's pic is their problem. Its very clear the mint devs dont really care about the XFCE spin they just slap the utilities and packages on. They dont even customize it like OP so that i looks somewhat decent and resembles windows 10.
>>727969193Mint as far i remember use cinnamon, that is like gnome, but less shit than whatever the fuck ubuntu does.
>>727900696lol does not work in Linux so I have to boot into Windows
>>727969272Yea they are all in on cinnamon though I cant use it because they are taking it in the wrong direction. The mint XFCE iso they dont even scale the icons out of the box like OP. Also just in general they are following guhnome and moved to that ugly blue libadwaita color.Nemo is integrated into the file system in cinnamon you cant uninstall it. Its becoming like windows 11. If it was a good file manager I wouldnt mind, but its not. It takes 500-800ms to switch a folder and over a second to launch when thunar launches in 30ms or less and switches folders with sub 5ms.
>>727969487cinnamon fucking sucks. They still haven't fixed fractional scaling and it's been years.KDE does it just fine of course.

>>727922739Reminder that linuxfags said gaming on Linux was fine until Valve developed Proton
>>727970636XFCE is the definitive best basic lightweight desktop that resembles windows 7, but linux distro devs with mental illness are abandoning it for gayland. All because some retards need HDR that 98% of the worlds population doesnt use or some retard that bought two monitors of different brands and different refresh rates on purpose. They are willing to throw ALL this away just to have these two features and a functionally broken display manager.
>>727971236The fuck we did. Pretty much everything said pre-proton was "Some games can work but don't count on it without massive tinkering."
>>727971254i have an oled and hdr is a memestill using wayland because i wasn't retarded enough to buy nvidia :^)
>>727971254>some retard that bought two monitors of different brands and different refresh rates on purpose.I got a new monitor and throwing the old one away seemed like a waste.Anyways what's the problem with dual monitors with different refresh rates/resolutions?>different brandsThat shouldn't be an issue
>>727970636Compositor you are using will dictate which DE you are able to use.KrashingDestopEnvioremnt is alright if you have resources to run it and it has the best Wayland support at the moment.Try different things, you can change DE at any moment.
>>727971254>All because some retards need HDR that 98% of the worlds population doesnt use or some retard that bought two monitors of different brands and different refresh rates on purposeI run 3 monitors from different brands with 3 different rates just fine on X11 funny enough.
>>727971236People who said that:
>>727971742Mixed refresh rates on x11 has been wonky. It works best if you limit refresh rates to a factor of the other monitor 1:1 2:1 120hz:60hz. Most newer features on xorg have been weird hacks that only kind of work, multi monitor support itself was a weird hack that only kind of works. All of these features were built in from the beginning in the wayland protocol. Wayland protocols have just been bike shedding on the stuff you never think of until you don't have it. Like how clipboards are supposed to work

>>727969193Which distro has the best XFCE config out of the box?
>>727976549Aight, bet
I just installed a new SSD so I can have a dual boot. Only reason I am keeping a windows installation is because no one has created a remotely decent alternative to Magpie (fuck you gamescope and lsfg-vk for only supporting fsr and framegen respectively). Hopefully my experience with an Nvidia card won't be too horrible. Went with Nobara because I've had good experiences with Fedora in the past.
>>727976775Mint XFCE is the best definitive Linux XFCE experience for a windows 10 like experience but on linux. There was zorinOS lite but they discontinued for no reason despite it being slow bloated guhnome with wayland. The only downside is the mint XFCE iso comes like pic related which is super ugly because the mint devs dont want to put even a minute of effort to tweak the XFCE4 XML files to look something like OP's screenshot and package that with the installer, so you HAVE to customize it. It would literally take 1 minute to do this but I guess they just don't care about their distro looking good. But everything is a just werks out of the box it has software manager, updater and driver manager for nvidia with blue tooth support.I should create my own distro with the forked mint software updater, software manager but its a big undertaking.
How does the 'eck do its instant sleep and wake and how do I replicate it?
>>727977530I don't know why they don't have the XFCE start menu set to a dark theme out of the box. It's like they ship it like this to make Cinnamon look better or something
>>727977148Gamescope supports a subset of reshade shaders (no depth buffer at the very least), and for video playback you can use shaders directly in mpv without additional software.
>>727978172Yeah neither of those support NV upscaling.
>>727978018They just dont care about the XFCE/MATE editions. All they care about is cinnamon and the mainline edition.XFCE/MATE are for people who are traditionalist so they just throw the mint-meta package and add these desktops and release it without any tweaking. Its really shoddy work and I dont want to use their distro if its not going to have first class support for XFCE/X11.For example regular people want a system tray like OP's screen shot where the icons are small, concise and look nice similar to windows 10, and a time menu that shows the time in AM/PM and the date in a concise readable method. They can do this in 1 minute but choose not to.Also in general I think the new libadwaita changes are pretty ugly with the blue tint to the grey theme now, It looks more bluish than dark grey when before it looked more like adwaita-dark/windows 10. They honestly just needed to change the colors to a darker grey pallete and thats it.Also the main dev of linux mint, clem, doesnt even use the theming changes he pushed on everyone, he uses something similar to OP, a blackish/darkish adwaita themed desktop.
>>727978474>and add these desktops and release it without any tweakingDefault XFCE absolutely does not look like Mint's XFCEInstall Debian with XFCE and you'll what the default config actually looks like

As a pirate chad, how do I play my games on Linux Mint?
>>727991608step 1: load unpacked .exe into lutris like you were going to install itstep 2: play
>>727991608Step 1. Download games from steamrip, gog-gamesStep 2. Install heroic flatpakStep 3. Extract pirated games to /home/$USER/Games/Heroic folder so heroic flatpak can see themStep 4. Click Add game, Add them in as a windows .exe game and click the .exe in the folder and Fill out the name formStep 5. Press play Note, some games do not work without certain microsoft redistributables, drivers and such so you may need to right click the game, go to settings, winetricks and winetricks gui to add them. For example binding of Issac: Rebirth specifically needs openAL otherwise it will not launch. This is one area where steam's platform is superior, because they test and bundle mostly all the requirements to play a game.
