>>727905474Going from Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie, and DK 64, I really appreciate how much Bad Fur Day breaks out of the basic Mario 64 structure of a hub world with doors connecting to themed levels you enter and exit to collect a collectible. Instead of "snow level, desert level, jungle level" etc, the areas are more dictated by the plot, absurd as it is (and thus, the areas are absurd). There's something of a central hub in the windmill area, but it isn't the same way Peach's Castle, Grunty's Lair etc are. It probably seems like an absurd thing to compare it to given how different they are tonally and genre wise, but I feel like BFD takes some cues from Half-Life, in that there's distinct areas with distinct aesthetics, but they're less disconnected than was typical of both platform games and shooter games before that, one area leads into the next in a linear story, with a lot of gameplay change ups (you know, platform heavy combat light Residue Processing, vs action rollercoaster Surface Tension) with a lot of individual setpieces areas are constructed around, though comedic in BFD's case, a wacky character or vulgar bit, etc. It lets them vary the tone a lot and has the player always seeing something new. Sure not every section is a winner, in either game, but that wasn't the case in the Mario 64 format OR the DOOM format either.I think this kind of structure for games became more commonplace in the PS2 era but this was very forward thinking for the time and I really appreciate Rare's ambition with the game, especially when it was already such a big swing with the M rated revamp.

But he noticed her contradiction and confronts her over it anyway even though it's hurting his case. He gets back on track soon after and doesn't just roll over for the defense, but it's a great moment because it completely flips the script on what you were thinking of Edgeworth til now, and reveals that behind the "get a conviction no matter what" mentality, there is a genuine desire to seek the truth in him, and it leads directly into the climactic Case 4 where he's the accused.
