Is the original Metroid Prime the most video game video game ever made? It's everything modern cinematic games are desperate to be but achieves it with never once sacrificing itself as video game for some other artistic component. It's game design in its purest form.
>>728054285Metroid Prime is the most Metroid Prime Metroid Prime ever made
>>728054285I thought you meant it was video game-y in the way it sounds like a stereotypical video game as you play exploring a planet, finding secrets, weapons, all sorts of enemies; not in the gamep/movie ratio.
>>728054285Prime 2 is the best one in the series.
Shoddy level design, ruins what made Super a masterpiece.
>>728054285It's not as good as Prime 2. Personally I think even Prime 3 is an improvement on Prime 1, if you look past the casualizations for Wii. But>Is the original Metroid Prime the most video game video game ever made? No. That's Super Metroid.
>>728054285Metroid Prime and games that share the same non-linear and backtrack heavy design will always be hated by modern audiences. The era of brainrotted ADHD catering devs have absolutely ruined adventure games as a genre. We will nwver experience games like this again becuase of how much people cry about non-linear world design that isn't sandbox slop.
>>728054285L-look she's doing the spinny ball thingy!!
>>728058743>>728059023I should have restricted it to 3D really, as 2D games are generally by their nature more focussed and gameplay orientated
>>728054285i think this is a pretty bizarre thesis but please make your argument instead of just making a statement.what, exactly, are the game mechanics of metroid prime? what are the game "verbs" that you find so engaging compared to other titles? what about them do you find to be uniquely "gamey" when compared to what you perceive as "movie games"?i'm confident you can produce a complete thought here, take your time.
>>728054285Crysis 1 has it beat.
>>728059801Not OP But jeez you're annoying
>>728058743>enter Maridia>go right into sand traps instead of directly to the boss for space jump>don't notice that you're going through yet another shitass one way door>after going back and forth in a corridor of aids, take the tube up and find grey doors everywhere>forced to go up through Ghost Ship and Crateria and back down to reenter Maridia>"""masterpiece"""
>>728059547If you have to separate 2D and 3D games then you shouldn't rank games.
>>728060550>thinks it was an oversightthis is why you like fusion, you won't get it so I won't bother trying
>>728060854Who are you quoting?
>>728060880you must be 18 to post here meme. You assume greentext flag is law but you aren't aware of the universally adopted >implying condition.get the fuck off my board
>>728061031No u, faggot. The obvious point of posting that is that you have deliberately misrepresented what was said in a misquote. Kill yourself.
>>728060550>directly>to bossYou didn't play Super
>>728061031Nothing about that implied oversight. It implied that their conscious design choices are total ass and the objective they serve should have been done in a better way.
>>728061175>aykshully you have to pass through multiple rooms on your way to the boss>therefore there is no direct route>getting upgrades is just more indirect>you can't choose to go straight to the boss>impossiblefull retard
>>728054285The first Dark Souls deserves this title the most.
>>728054285Nah. It's for normie fag fucks that fucking NEED gwaphics to show them the wayNone of you have changed since the 90s. Just the same ol over again and againFuck YouFuck youWith all the hate in my heartFUCKYOU
>>728061532You dont even have to enter Maridia through the wrecked ship. The idea of leaving out to Brinstar to do stuff is also a possibility. Sand traps are a total skill issue regardless.
>>728062067And the worst part is, none of you have changed....
>>728062171You'll always be the same...
>>728062116I see you just have zero reading comprehension.
>>728054285The idea that other artistic components are at odds with gameplay is one I will always object to. They're not, developers are fucking retards at implementing them, it's not the same thing.
>>728059023>Personally I think even Prime 3 is an improvement on Prime 1,Can you elaborate on this, because I just don't see it. They Halo-fied it lol.Do you consider hyper mode to be a Wii casualization? If not, do you consider it to be good game design?
>>728062067We're all happy that you contributed to class discussion today Jeremy.

>>728062598What you do is a pale comparison of what was. You can never measure up to what was..... you just add identity politics like it means something. The old Masters just wanted to make games
>>728062264Right back at you, this started with calling out Prime 1 for ruining what made Super great level design wise.
>>728062774Blame your Father all you want, your games are shit. Your politics are shit. And you'll never balance anything cause everything is somone ELSE'S fault. You'll never take resposnibility for your own faults. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tZ0Zncg7sLQ&list=RDtZ0Zncg7sLQ&start_radio=1&pp
>>728059023>No.>That's Super Metroid.based department
>>728063002That was true until>>728061175Just admit that you failed to understand what was being said.
>>728054285I love Metroid Prime but the most video game is obviously le fishe girl.
>>728062384Hyper mode is badly implemented. There's not really any need for elaboration. I'm sure you can imagine ways it could be better. There are some small other things gameplay-wise that reduce the overall difficulty, and lot of the game is spent being guided to objectives by the Aurora Unit, which is a concession to the causal audience. It's definitely the easiest Prime game>They Halo-fied it lol.I see the complaint, but I don't have much of a problem with how they did it. Story-wise it's the conclusion of the Phazon story, with set up all the way back in Prime 1 that they finally capitalize on. It's a big climax, and it plays out like one. With all that saidI think the game has great combat, great bosses, some of the best art direction in the trilogy (certainly more of a looker than Prime 1), and, while there IS a bit of handholding with the Aurora Unit guiding you, there are a lot of moments where it will basically tell you to just explore. And underneath it all, you're left with a great Metroidvania. This becomes especially obvious if you go for 100% item completion. It's a very well designed game. Bluntly, I have more fun replaying it than I do Prime 1. I usually feel like Prime 1 is a great time until the endgame, and then it starts to feel like a slog. Prime 3 kind of starts slow but the endgame is great. So I'm left with a better impression.
>>728054285Prime 1 is the only game that did beams right. Each felt unique and useful the whole game.>Prime 2's ammo system limited offense and dark beam was just a way to get light ammo after you got super missiles>Prime 3 just stacks beams for toddlers>Prime 4 is just elemental power beams without any cool effects
>>728064689>>Prime 2's ammo system limited offense and dark beam was just a way to get light ammo after you got super missilesYou misunderstood the system desu
>>728054285It's very mid.
>>728064493>Prime 1 is a great time until the endgamethis is my only real complaint, eventually you just run/roll past everything without ever having to care about damage
>>728062384not him but at release it was my favorite of the 3 because the controls were so much better and fun to use.
>>728065120It's funny, I just replayed Prime 1 on Hard and my impression of the endgame is insanely mixed. On one hand, getting the artifacts isn't bad if you do it alongside the main quest and the Omega Pirate/Metroid Prime fights were the only time I felt like I was ever in danger of dying. On the other hand, pickups tied to endgame powerups like the x-ray visor are an absolute bore to backtrack for if you're diligent about the artifacts and the only reason those bosses were a threat were because they were sheer wars of attrition, effectively resource checks and nothing more.
>>728054285Yes
>>728063246You didn't play Super
>doing low % run on hard>get to invisible droneAAAAIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEE
>>728054285The original Metroid Prime is a boring game with a non-functional map and a million years of backtrackingThe entire Prime series was always shit and I'm tired of fags praising some of the lamest platforming and shooting ever made because of MUH HECKIN' SCANNER
>>728054285Metroid prime interrupts gameplay to show you a cinematic camera sweep of new areas, including a close up of items in the room.It also interrupts gameplay to tell you where you're supposed to head next (unless you manually turn off hints in the options). It also has an absolutely rubbish fetch quest at the end. It's not free from problems.
>>728070667Why don't more people talk about this. It's straight up Zelda. Where is the "Metroid" in Metroid Prime.
>>728061124retard and emotional
>>728061310I disagree on both points. go make a fusion thread
>>728070803Agreed, this is why I have always voiced my distaste for the prime games. Retro Studios followed a formula set by a game at the beginning of 3D adventure games, 3 games later and no change or update to design, 15 years later they get to work on the sequel and it's exactly the same situation but with the extra "we learned from new zelda what to do this time" with empty large map and motorbike. I hate Retro Studios so fucking much it's burning passion.
