After finishing both story and chronicles I have to say that even if story was kino, chronicles is the superior mode BY FAR, is not short on cool or straight up legendary matches either, the zeus match, jobber emperors, literally everything where Zanark plays, raimon vs raimon.

And playing as a team that I can actually have full control over is WAY better than to include Kameo and patriot shot guy in every match, plus you get a bunch of kits.

You can actually get managers in different playstyles, the only thing that doesn't change is the passives they start with. For example, the VR Raimon Manager always gets the two scramble buffs and the sub def +25% buff. If he gets Rough Play, he'll get the team rough atk/def passive and the tension on tackle passive. If he's Breach, he always gets Castle Wall Pierce Rate up and Breach Cost down.

I know this question is kinda stupid since you can play any character in any position anyway, but... is it possible to change their default position/role in the team page? For example have Raika show as a goalie instead of FW. Or are those positions innate to the character and cant be changed?

It autosaves only once you leave the team builder. So if you reset without leaving you can try again. This is more helpful for people that want certain characters in certain styles than anything else. Another way is to use the cross save function but then you have to deal with Epic even more.

I did notice in the story mode that some menus sort of bug out and display seemingly random roles for characters, no matter their default or set role.

The story mode and chronicle mode, those two are the two big modes, story has no football until several hours in but is very charming meanwhile chronicles gives you a brief recap of the most important matches in the previous games (with 0 context between them) and all you will do is play football, is on chronicle where you are given full freedom to build your team from the get go and where you will use your OC by the most part (OC is not playable in story mode until way later)

Yup, getting the playstyle you want on them might take some trial and error though. If you want to speed that up you could reset your game while still in the spirit menu if you don't get what you want since the game only auto saves when you leave the team dock. If you're going to do that though I would get at least 3 of the character first
