is there any reason to get this over quest 3?
its probably 200-300 bucks more expensive than quest 3

facebook

The biggest thing is how streaming works. The Quest has bullshit codecs and netcode. I'd imagine Valve has hardware HEVC or AV1 and solid netcode for it. The dedicated streaming dongle that doesn't use your WiFi is indicative of them knowing what they're doing.
>>
If you intend to use it for PCVR which you should, then yes it's worth it even for 200-300 bucks more because you won't need a dedicated wifi 6e router, you won't need to buy virtual desktop, and you can write off the remaining extra cost as being worth it for the eye tracked foveated rendering and foveated streaming.
If you're not a richfag and money matters, I wouldn't bother buying a frame if you already have a quest 3, but if you don't already have a VR headset and want one, the frame is the one you should get.

>>728428169
Why are you routing on a LAN?
>>
>>728427371
i fucking hope it's only 300 more.
it's a full blown desktop substitute
you could hook it up to a monitor, mouse and keyboard and use it as a normal pc if you wanted to

My cope is that I find humor in Mark Zuckerburg and his goons having seen my hairy cock and balls and my toad-like visage sweating and moaning via the Quest 3 cameras

Imo it isnt really for anyone other than big valve fans or people into foss.

The displays are basically the same as the quest 3 but its missing a lot of ar features because they went with the regular snapdragon chip instead of the xr one.
Because its priced higher than the quest 3 while not offering any features that vr enthusiasts dont already have with their current high end vr headsets its like they just made it without having a target audience in mind.
non enthusiasts already percieve the $500 the quest 3 sits at to be expensive and regularly go for the 3s with the shitty lenses to save a few bucks while enthusiasts would never trade their 8k res headsets for an overpriced quest 3.

eye tracking and foveated rendering
>>
>>728430114
foveated straming*
youre just saving wifi bandwidth not game performance
>>
>>728427371
you can play most of your steam library on it
it has better controllers
it will allow modding
no facecuck spyware

but it's better to just wait for reviews and HL3
>>
>>728427371
Zuck watches everything yo do on META and its a walled garden.
SteamVR is far superior
>>
the frame seems useless as a standalone headset, its not for gaming just watching video.
>>
pirated vr games
>>
Valve have already admitted its not powerful enough to play Half Life Alyx and thats 7 years old, kek.
this thing is shit
>>
>>728431897
Just stream it from the PC like a heterosexual.
>>
>>728431897
with or without a PC?
>>
>>728431883
>pirated vr games
quest 3 can do this too. the headset works with steam VR
>>
>>728432060
without
>>
>>728427371
>is there any reason to get this over quest 3?
No facebook.
>>
>>728432086
you can also sideload pirated apks onto the quest 3
>>
>>728431640
You assume valve wouldn't do the same because what, they're your friend? Get your head out of your ass.
>>
>>728427371
Runs Linux instead of locked down Android, so general usefulness and compatibility will be higher and I can run it as a mini PC, instead of as just a peripheral. Even only using the Quest 3 for PCVR feels limited.
The battery is also a separate component, so charging is less of a hassle.
I will be interested in what aftermarket peripherals and add-ons come out, because the headstrap is obviously trash and color passthrough and hand tracking would be nice.
>>728428169
>Wifi 6E router
An AP works, just probably not without a router.
>Virtual Desktop
I just use WiVRN with wlx-overlay
>>728434531
Valve wouldn't do the same thing, because it's stupid, would cost them money and would be more work.
Valve can at least be trusted to work in their own interests, a company like Facebook can't.
>>
>>728435127
>Valve wouldn't do the same thing, because it's stupid, would cost them money and would be more work.
So why would facebook do it
>Valve can at least be trusted to work in their own interests, a company like Facebook can't.
If you're "trusting" any corporation you're a retard.
>>
>>728429382
SteamVR is dogshit for desktop view compared to Virtual Desktop though
>>
>>728427371
>Superior wireless streaming
>Built for PC VR
>Native Steam VR support
>None of the Facebook bloatware
>Can sideload apks (you know what that means...)
Most definitely a better choice
>>
>>728435183
you are right not to trust corporations, but it is equally retarded to suggest steam is even comparable to facebook in regard to trust.
>>
>>728435659
I'm saying they're both equally trash, and as untrustworthy as a hooker who says she's a virgin
>>
>>728435769
and I'm saying thats retarded. I'm not about to make a blood pact with steam, but facebook is well known for harvesting, hoarding and whoring any and all personal data they can snag. steam has yet to do anything to raise those same concerns.
>>
>>728436040
I know lots of people who have thousands of dollars dumped in steam and nobody who has any money dumped in facebook.
The blood pact is made.
>>
>>728429382
You can go the movies, AT YOUR HOUSE!
>>
>>728436213
what does that have to do with the trustworthiness of the company? if anything, that hursts your argument. I will gladly buy steam gear over facebooks. yes, its higher in price. it is also a higher quality, and steam has shown itself to be more trustworthy than facebook.
>>
>>728435183
>So why would facebook do it
Documented history of forcing retarded shit without backing down and they're a publicly traded company.
Carmack was posting about shotgun headsets while working there and when he quit he said that they were working at half the effectiveness required to make him happy with continuing to work there due to constant internal sabotage and dumb shit, which probably translates to 75% of the money going into Meta being dumped directly into a fire.
>If you're "trusting" any corporation you're a retard.
I trust them to act in their own interests and go where the money is if they're not publicly traded.
>>728435769
Regardless of how trash they are, it's still ludicrous to assume that they will both act the same.
Valve does not benefit from setting up the same walled garden and data harvesting on their headsets that Meta has, so they will not do it.
>>
>>728427371
>is there a reason to use facebook over 4chan ?
>>
>>728427371
There's no way it's less than 800.
>>
>>728436395
Just because people are too stupid, or chose to be ignorant to the extent that they don't see valve's datafarming practices is none of my concern, those people are fucking idiots just like people who put their family photos on facebook.
>>
>>728436545
to what extent has valve been confirmed to harvest data?
it is well known how meta data rapes people (even people that don't have an account get data raped). aside from steam notification on games you might like and using your anonymized data for their hardware breakdowns, they have yet to do anything remotely as bad as facebook.
>>
>>728429382
man I just want it for porns and flight sim
>>
>>728427371
>its probably 200-300 bucks more expensive
If were only 300 dollars more than a $350 refurbished Quest 3 then I would buy it just for the eye tracking and comfort.
But it's gonna be like $800.
>>
how does it compare to the Index? is it worth getting that over the Frame?
>>
>>728435490
you can sideload apks on the quest as well
>>
>>728434442
Since the Frame lets you play shit on the headset without a PC I would assume that you could pirate shit on it as well.
>>
i dont get it
why dont they just announce the price?
>>
>>728437017
No side by sides yet although I can tell you the index probably has better tracking with the base stations
