I have a launch unit. Waiting for the Steam Frame so I can replace it. Portable ARM computer that can do everything in one tiny device. The perfect lunch break handheld and it won't take up 90% of the free space in my backpack. I won't be using those VR wands tho, but the kino Steam Controller 2. Gonna play indie games using the FEX emulation layer while watching videos in a virtual desktop.

I work in a Datacenter as the lead infrastructure engineer. All of my team have Steamdecks. They'll immediately want to get one too. Small, light, powerful, portable. The perfect "handheld." Sometimes we play retro games on a 8840HS miniPC in our conference room on the 110" screen though. Typically we just play Steamdeck. One of the guys is in his 40s and watches retro cartoons on the 55" screen in the main offices. My office is a private one facing the actual server room and I usually have my Steamdeck output to the 50" monitor on my offices' wall.

The logistics of it would be fucked, but, I really would like a Dreamcast controller maybe with a touch pad, but definitely gyro.
I feel like it'd be a really nice controller for pc gaming.

I have it, just use it in niche circumstances at this point. Tomorrow I'm gonna be in the hospital for a few hours so it'll be another opportunity for me.

One thing I've noticed is it takes a while to start up now (cut it from the video here, total time was 39 seconds before the startup movie). The battery health is still 100% but maybe something else is starting to degrade.

>>728500474
I use the Valve adapter for everything, only use it to charge my 'eck and I also use it to charge my phone and headphones.
>>
>>728501546
Genuine question as someone who owns a Steam Deck, what exactly are you waiting for an "improved hardware" Steam Deck?
>>
I bought a switch instead.

I regret it immensely.
>>
>>728501674
just a newer APU really. the thing is solid otherwise imo.

my sugar mama gave me one when they first came out, the one with the blue logo on the case, i guess it was more expensive. I got drunk and smashed it. She also got me a meta quest 3 and i got drunk and smashed it. I gotta stop smashing stuff. Both of those things either had poor build quality or my grip strength is strong because they broke under my grasp, not from flinging at a wall

Also I guess while we're on the topic, what would be a good alternative charger/power supply for the Steam Deck, I've sort of been looking around for something more compact that I can detach the cable from to carry in a bag a bit easier.
I've heard some Anker one was apparently fairly okay but I'm not really sure what one they're talking about.
They don't really have useful names.

>>
>>728498784
Was looking at handhelds. The screen size of the Deck was what killed it for me. The Oled is $550 for worse performance and a worse screen than $700 gaming laptops with an RTX 5050 were offering this past Black Friday. I went with a laptop. I don't need to be able to game on a train or anything.

all you gotta do is be hot and walk around los angeles, women will come to you. Also you gotta be into older women. I like them older, and they appreciate I'm not just in it for money. They know they turn me on, and I know they don't get much attention for being older.
>>
>>728503857
I mean you can still game on a train if it has tables. Same with airplanes too. Steam Deck is more mobile, but not by much and with how much more powerful yet cost effective laptops are, it's just not a good proposition in 2025.

I'm with other anons, I'd like one but at this point I've waited long enough I might as well keep waiting for the deck 2. The deck 1 can easily handle ps2 emulation, right? I have a decent pc already so I'm pretty sure my major use case is emulating console games on the couch. And lighter pc games, maybe finish silksong or something.
>>
>>728504230
Fairly recently I played through Ratchet and Clank 1-3 on mine.
Keep in mind PS2 emulation even if it's a lot better these days can be a bit fucky.

I already have a good PC, so if I were to get a handheld it would be something quite a bit smaller, probably mostly for retro and indie games. The deck is fucking huge, it has to feel ridiculous to hold, like a tablet.
>>
>>728498784
Because the LE was out of stock.
>>
The soc is too weak for a lot of modern games and those that do run have to be set to abysmal settings.
Even a switch 2 mogs the shit out of it if done well.
Cyberpunk being a prime example.
A deck 2 might be interesting though.
>>
>>728498784
I own an Odin 2 Mini and I probably won't get anything else beyond that unless a new handheld comes out that's the same size.
I know the Retroid Pocket 6 is arriving but that's not much of a significant upgrade.
>>
>>728505810
>it has to feel ridiculous to hold
I used to think the same thing until I got one. It's a lot more ergonomic. You've got some nice handles to grip it, like a male shortstack.

if my depression cures and i actually enjoy vidya again, i might buy one.
>>
Weak, Should be $400 at most rather than $600 for the performance and absolute weak ass APU.

That's all consumer handheld gaming ever was, a scam because companies know the tech right now isnt there yet to deliver even 800p60fps gaming yet. Deck cant keep a locked 60fps on witcher 3, a 10 year old game right now, but go and pay $600, LOL.

Handhelds are a muh meme until ryzen AI meme chips become prevalent and cheaper(They won't). If you buy this thing you're an idiot. You can buy a 9070XT GPU or so many more things for this anemic piece of garbage.

>>728498784
>have steam deck
>damage one of the buttons doesnt work anymore
>valve's only solution for me is to ship it to usa and pay 150usd and then ship it back
>with duties and the 150, and shipping, I'll be in the hole like at least 250usd probably
Fuck valve. Im in fucking canada, what can't they authorize some repair shops here?
>>
>>728498784
the steam deck is in an awkward spot for me, it just doesn't make sense
i already have a pc and a hacked switch, so i dont need it for pc games, and i dont need it for couch gaming via moonlight, and honestly when the switch is old and tired i think it will be replaced with a slim and light tablet and one of those extending controller grips rather than another actual gaming device like a switch or any of those handheld pc's like the steam deck

RP6 is the perfect candidate for SteamOS (ARM). Hopefully the bootloader is unlocked so it can be flashed soon after launch. Android is a useless OS.
>>
>>728510759
I whipped my duvet up to look under it for something and launched my deck onto the floor from an apex of like 1-1.5meters. It landed on the right bumper and the bumper mashes down instead of clicking down, now. And after using its few times, it stops registering.
