Did this meme from 2010 date well?

>>728502605Well I was born in 2002 and don't think I "grew up in the golden age of gaming", so probably not
>>728502605Based on what I see, yes. There are lots of posts that defend the 360/PS3/Wii era
the golden age of gaming is right now because i can buy a ps5 for cheap and have access to all my favourite games from every generation on it and they all look and play better than ever
Like father, like son.
>>728502605How could it not be a golden age if you are born in Fortnite, you live in Fortnite, and you will die in Fortnite? The boomers had many games, the zoomers have the One True God Game
>>728503383so what unc?your first gaming experience as a kid will always be the best, nothing will ever top it, you will never reach that chilhood gaming peak and experience the novelty of it ever again no matter how hard you tryyou can't play gta5 and then go back to gta sa and find it impressive, there's nothing wrong with the fact that in the time when you are alive the culture surrounding you is fortnite or fifa or whatever AAA games, it's literally finetrying to catch up on things you will never understand and appreciate at the cost of becoming a social pariah is simply retarded, people should live in the time period when they are actually alive and interact with things surrounding them, you can keep your fossils to yourself if you like them so much

>>728503616so not true. you can go back and enjoy old games in the same way you can enjoy old music
Pepe memes are based and i hope it will have a resurrection in the near future.
>>728504654Objectively someone growing up through the 5th-7th generations had it best. 2010s was when advancements slowed down and enshittification began. Earlier gens did have their advancements, but it was stuff like going from 8bit to 16bit which wasn't nearly as dramatic.

By the time that image was made zoomers were already old enough to idolize the early xbox 1 / 360 brogamer days that old /v/ despised. So it was an easy projection to make.
>>728502605I was born in 1999 and think i grew up just after the golden age of gaming. I kinda got the tail end of it and in hindsight games really peaked around the late 90s-early 2000s.

>>728504880wrong because the experience of an old book or song hasn't changed in centuries: you read one page and then the next, you listen one song of the album and then the next.with games it's obviously different since you are supposed to play them and they are specifically tied to the technological progressit's simply retarded to pretend that you played an old ps2 game on a modern tv through an emulator and think unironically that you have experienced the game
>>728505020Economic factors, statistics, lifestyles and products of the era. Yeah i think it's fair it enough to say that those were the golden years. The 90s were fine because we lived trough the technological boom but society decayed a lot around mid 00s.Get angry all you want but current day society is dystopian, stores lock products that cost less than the plastic case they are in. Zoomers are just angry mentally ill retards so it won't get better any time soon.
>>728502947the DS and 360 were great consoles but after that is when the stagnation set in and led to where we are now. The golden age basically died with them.
Its basically impossible to describe the feeling of progress video games went through technologically and culturally since their inception. Watching it go from Arcades to home consoles to the internet felt like advancing from cavemen to the Jetsons overnight. I miss the feeling of being excited for the next big thing because the next step forward was always going to be better. Now new things can only signal a bad omen.

They still had it nice. Second half of the 2010s is basically the beginning of the Kali Yuga of gaming, we're knee deep in it now.

>>728503087As a 39 year old it was genuinely good (obvious signs of formulaic and stale game development aside), I must've bought like 70 - 80+ games for the 360. My soul will always belong with 90's PC though.
>>728506457>media panders to usYou were created by the media, retard. 02 here. The best run was 97 - 04 while 01 was the best year overall
>>728506832i don't see how thats different from gaming. youre doing the same thing. you can still even use physical games where you have to take out the CD and stuff. the only difference is the quality of the television and with access to internet you COULD look up a solution if you wanted to but i dont know why you would want to do that unless you get some retarded castlevania simons quest type puzzle

the 360 was the begging of the end , i can't remember a good game from that era, they all casualized garbage from older games. Even current day games are better, and current day games are dogshit.
>>728510005This. The era before it (xbox/ps2/saturn) was the best era of gaming. There were so many fucking tom clancy titles for Xbox it was unreal. Only thing missing from my Xbox collection is the 360 version of TDU , but that's about it, it's got everything else. Luckily that game is also available for PC so it's not a big deal
>>728502947The handhelds were great. The consoles were okay, but a step down in intrigue from the previous handful of gens. Everything after 7th has tried really hard to make 7th look better than it actually was.
>>728510739TDU was one of few good games for 360. I remember going to a kid's place who's 2 years younger than me, he had a x360 and some demo version of TDU, and he said>This game isn't that goodI later learned that was the red flag that this guy was not a true gamer. He got to play same BF games and Swat 4 as I did, but this guy... he said one of the best racing games for PC... isn't good? Clearly some brain defect going on
>>728502947It's funny that people at the time thought the Wii was the worst with its wagglan gimmick, but it was a hell of a lot less cancerous than the other two consoles.
>>728509270did your country's senses and practices of travel get affected?
>>728506785You do know zoomers were the squeakers on 7th gen consoles, right? You do know Roblox started in the mid 2000s, right?

>>728511419I don't see a single 360/Ps3 game in the picture doe. Kotor released for the xbox, they hate remedy, Laracroft , mega man, diablo, all of the games in the picture are millennial culture, even Leon is an old man now (like us).>roblox release dateDoesn't mater, it's alpha territory. Games cater to old men and alphas, not zoomers. They are a failed generation.
>>728511228The problem with wii is that both nintendo and the westerners kinda slept over the whole motion control gimmick. They made lame games for it, they didn't make enough of "hardcore games" to take advantage of it. The only games I feel really took advantage of the motion aiming, was Prime 3, and the on-rails Resident Evil shooter(s). For shooting games (be it first person, or 3rd person, as splatoon showed) the motion controls are best way to play shooters. Maybe the was problem with the precision of the default motion censor, maybe some accessories could've fixed that.. I recall either Wii or Wii U remotes having some extra accessory added that might've improved them or something? But basically the concept was real, it's the best way to play FPS or 3rd person shooters, you just gotta implement it well (have tech that's not 0.50$ from aliexpress, like invest more money into it Nintendo, like sony did with PS Move) and the developers not "half arsing" it. This is a problem of "egg and chicken", because neither the devs nor the hardware maker wants to be the "first" to invest (this egg and chicken dilemma I've heard mentioned in other gaming related problems, probably related to dev kits or something, so I think it's perfectly applicable to this as well). But yeah it definitely needed more "real gamer" games taking advantage of the motion control scheme, and less normie/gimmicky games (games like Twilight princess probably better on regular gamepad, even if the bow aiming might be better with motion control). Motion aiming >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> gyro aiming

>>728506507
>>728502951Powerful
>>728511763I also have to add, that playing RE4 on motion controller was kino. Was it cheap to be able to headshot all of the zombies? Maybe, but it was fun.
>>728511763yeah>point and click (game mecnahinc, not genre)>Mario Kart-ripoff steering wheel>shake up and down, or with nunchuck shake back and forthEvery game all used these same gimmicks. Warioware Smooth Moves both used all the staples and also really illuminated the degrees of things you could do with the motion and IR sensor controls. Granted, looking back on these, it seems what were revolutionary ideas then have been used by everyone now.

I know I should be grateful that I was even raised on it but knowing that I missed out on the hype makes me so fucking depressed.
>>728511763Motion controls was just dogshit all over. Noone wants to have to stand up and do jumping jacks and shit while gaming. Noone wants to point to select their menus and shit that can be done with a simple flick and button press. Wagglin' was great to sucker normies into the console which caused it to be Nintendos biggest success ever at the time, but it sucked for actual gaming.
>>728518227>fostersI'm 02 and I watched that though? must have just been re-runs ig. parents passing down shit is based though. my dad had me when he was 22 and was stupid to let me always play the games he played or watch what he watched even when I was a toddler lmao so my best childhood memories are of gow 1 and 2 on ps2, jak and daxter, the first two assassin's creed games, red dead, gta IV, cod4 and the golden age of cod (never could play online until we leeched wifi from our neighbors in 09). then before we got too old we had shit like minecraft and skyrim. maybe not objectively the best era to grow up but its a lot fucking better than what kids are doing now.
>>728518973What you're describing are the gimmicks, things they should've focussed less on, and more on implementing core/hardcore gaming experiences with the superior control scheme that was (when well implemented) motion controls. If you have Wii, I recommend trying Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles. I haven't got The Darkside Chronicles so I don't know if that one is good, but the first game is insanely good on-rails shooter

>>728517820I mean this can probably keep changing. I'm from '93 and think that I'd enjoy 6th gen at its (fairly short) time far more if I was a bit older, given its vast libraries of bangers. On the flopside, internet wouldn't actually be component where I was for a good while yet and got to enjoy 5th gen plenty.>>728511763The Wii Remotes would get 'Wii Motion Plus' as an addon at the bottom before it got built into later-produced versions. Supposedly MP3 had higher sensitivity in pre-release versions, but it got toned down for some reason and yet everyone eventually cranks it up to high sensitivity anyway. Came close to actually enjoying a similar control scheme in MP4 but my Joycons were plagued with latency issues when playing with it, and ironically the Switch 2 version just has mouse controls anyway.Gyro lives on otherwise as diet wagglan to some extent and fine-tuning aim on controllers, yet Microsoft doesn't seem to be too trusting of it and they're the fuckers in charge of XInput and popular gamepads, would be a bottleneck were it not for Valve.

>>728523686>Zoomers don't even know about the 2012 prophecy that we were all shitting bricks over.I still remember /v/ having a sticky with this music playing.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5xQnN53VI8
>>728523686>Zoomers don't even know about the 2012 prophecy that we were all shitting bricks over.I'm a zoomer and i can confirm that most of us were laughing the shit out of the 2012 apocalypse during the 2011. No one actually believed that crap, Holywood even made a movie based on that ridiculous idea.
>>728523686>2001 to around 2011 was the golden age of gamingWrong, 1994-2004 is more accurate
>>728503616Retard
>>728502947I fucking hate zoomers so much.
>>728511753unc is coping hard fr
how lucky we were that the Golden Ageâ„¢ of games/films/movies or culture in general happened when we were all collectively 12-18 years old?what were the chances huh
>>7285029477th gen is retro and DS/psp were the best(I was born in 1993)
>>728511753>Games cater to old men and alphas, not zoomers. They are a failed generation.Lol. Lmao even. Most of you millennial faggots have become politic streamers and youtubers. You people don't actually love games and willing to let legitimately talented studio back then to go bankrupt. It is the zoomzoom that has strange obsession with retro games and most grew up before the enshittification of the industry in the late 2010s.
>>728524261>7th gen is retrono it's not
I remember back in 2010 on /v/ deus ex human revolution leaked months before release. Everyone thought the game would be shit but it was amazing instead.I think the leak caused the game to become a /v/ darling and to this day that is still the best era and moment of /v/ to me. There were console wars but the website wasn't for weird social reject losers. Instead it was for introverted, yet intelligent and promising nerds to discuss their hobbies. Most threads were genuine without a layer of irony. Lots of effort posting. And while the website always had contrarianism, fake elitism and trolling it was not the majority of posts. And this stupid sense of detachment and "I don't care about anything, see how ironic I am" wasn't universal yet.Sseth (hey hey people) the youtuber is the epitome of all that is wrong with modern /v/ and that type of mindset started pretty quickly to the point where most posters don't even remember a pre-irony genuine /v/.Of course Tortanic and wanting every game to fail or the culture war with gamergate really didn't help. But the seed of distraction was already sown with constant disingenuous posts, posters and this stupid "I'm too cool to care, I'm so enlightened and beyond any of this, I never take anything serious" Sseth bullshit mindset is what genuinely killed the website.I never changed. All my posts in my 20 years of being on 4chan has always been genuine and reflective of my actual beliefs and stances. I like how people actually appreciate it and tend to effort post back at me. But yeah the original spirit of /v/ was truly special.
>>728510019Go fuck yourself. Grunge and Alt-rock era was best era.
>>728502605They were small children at the very tail end of it. A lot of them got to experience their older brother or dads games so a lot of them have some great gaming experience. There were of course the dregs whose first generation was the Wii, 360, and ps3, and they might even be the overwhelming majority of faggots with no taste. The golden age didn't end until the PS2 sold over 50million units. Then gaming became normie territory, Microsoft went anti consumer mode, Nintendo tucked their tail and ran to the casual market out of shame because their media format control finally kicked them in the teeth (rightfully so). Anyone saying otherwise is spewing revisionist history, or paid marketing agency damage control.t.40yoboomer. Thanks sony you wigger catering brand. You shoulda stayed the cool brand like ps1's days.
>>728524158I was 12 in 2015 and it was one of the most miserable time periods in my life. You don't know how good you had it, you old FUCK.
>>728524158Games absolutely was from about 1993 - 2007 but it had to do with technological boom of hardware, introduction of the internet and low hanging fruit of new ideas that hadn't been picked yet.Film peak was in the 1970s. 1990s in particular is very bad. Just watch back things like Buffy.Culture peaked in the 1950s. It's only games that peaked in those years.
>>728524420Deus Ex Human Revolution was shit
>>728524632This. This guy is an honorary millenial in my book
>>728524158Real gamer's videogames were not a thing until the late 90s. This is why most of gamers are the early zoomers and late millennials who born in the 1990 - 1996 period, essentially the proto zoomer generation. The market was booming with high quality products and the kids were grown enough to use the pc/console.
>>728502605Kids probably have it worse when it comes to vidya nowadays>peer-pressured into trying out only a few multiplayer videogames and FOTMs rather than playing a diverse array of videogames>the goyslop competitive multiplayer games give them drug-like rushes and they feel worse if they play anything else
>>728524839We could've had Freelancer 2. It almost happened
>>728524632>I was 12 in 2015Nothing against you. But this made me fill with rage. Being confronted with your own aging and mortality really sucks. You're 22 now and probably a proper adult. But to give you some indication I started posting on 4chan when I was 12 and I'm in my 30s now. Most of the opinions I see about "old games" feel like people talking about games that released relatively recently. For example Witcher 3 to me feels like a game released just a couple of months ago but to you it might be a childhood classic. I was in college when Skyrim came out and it still feels "new". I remember getting Pokémon blue (probably some ancient game to you) on launch. There's just no way we have overlapping the tastes in games or any similar frame of reference at all to what is good or bad.
>>728524839Dont lump me in with those broccoli hairs
>>728524693>Film peak was in the 1970s.name 5 good movies from this decade aside from onions wars and alien
>>728524420>Sseth (hey hey people) the youtuber is the epitome of all that is wrong with modern /v/ and that type of mindset started pretty quickly to the point where most posters don't even remember a pre-irony genuine /v/.What alternative universe are you living at? 4chan as whole was never that serious or genuine. Most of archives i read during 2008 were literall pissing contest with almost every anon tried to anger each other with probably 1 or 2 people actually being genuine.
>>728525045nta but you did mention skyrim and w3, and those are both bad. I'm glad we're on the same page
>>728524839This is some bullshit. Most 1980s people that are gamers grew up on Commodore 64 or Amiga systems. Arcades were in full swing and the early good home consoles were already out (Nes, Snes, Genesys/Megadrive) it's just because you were born in 1990 - 1996 that you classify this period as such.
>>728512961Fuck off back to /pol/
>>728525045>. For example Witcher 3 to me feels like a game released just a couple of months agois it a westoid trait? No one from my cultural circle has this severe case of time passing by at 100x when you hit 30. I am 31 and I consider covid to had happen a decade ago or something, 2010 is beyond ancient to mehow the fuck can you think of the times half way your age back and say to yourself how recent they feel
>>728525076>The 1996 people are totally different than the 1997 people i swear!
>>728525164>it's just because you were born in 1990 - 1996 that you classify this period as such.No that's not true, that 1991-2007 had best games. Most of those arcades didn't have good games, I know it's a shocker, not all of them were good. The n64 games in my library? All good, not because of nostalgia, but objective metric.
>>728524907There is Freelancer 2. It is Sca...Star Citizen.
>>728525045>For example Witcher 3 to me feels like a game released just a couple of months agoIt is weird how 2015 doesn't feel like that long ago, but it actually was a decade ago.
>>728525164Oh yeah you 1980 oldmen were playing E.T, Tetris and some fucking pay per hour arcade trash games with a total 5 pixels on screen. Riveting stuff.
>>728525285It's because there hasn't been any games worth talking about, and that's a bad thing when considering that Witcher 3 isn't even a good game, it's normie slop
>>728525246Arcade was such a dogshit gaming system, i have no idea why early millennials even call that trash gaming.
>>728525379Even best version of Metal Slug is the Metal Slug Anthology
>>728525328I tried to play Witcher 3 and the 1 hour horse riding between each quest made me want to kill myself. Decided to play Diablo 2 instead.
>>728525519It is a better game by default when you don't have to pay the arcade owner every hour.
People shitting on arcades clearly have not experienced the golden age of it. It felt similar in feeling to what you felt when we went from Snes to N64. Or (to a lesser extent) ps1 to ps2 if you're a younger person. The insane leaps of technology and gameplay innovation you saw during the golden age of arcades was insane. You would go there and every other week there was a new cabinet that had completely new technology, gameplay mechanics and entire genres you never saw before. Imagine if you could go to some place now and you paid like $2 to play a completely new genre with technology you didn't even think was possible and gameplay concepts you never seem before EVERY WEEK for like a decade. You just don't know what you guys missed. Like I said the only experience similar for late millennials was the 2d to 3d transition but done weekly.
>>728525764>People shitting on arcades clearly have not experienced the golden age of it. Nog, arcade was what wrong with early gaming. Greedy people tried to suck you dry but you were too young to aware of it. Same with internet cafe, sure i have nostalgia for it but no way in hell it was a good thing.
>>7285252462009 still had some heat in it. Plants vs Zombies, Prototype, Dragon Age Origins, Left 4 Dead 2. After that year, yeah, gaming is dead.
I feel like the mid-late 2000s were the peak of gaming, right at the peak of tech before it started to be used for microtransactions, cool online shit like wow and mw2, ps2/xbox to ps3/360 was still a leap, they were still making good single player games
>>728522661They are already posting here anon don't fool yourself.I was already posting on imageboards when I was like 13. In the 00's. Sorta depressing to think about to be honest.
>>728527273You're right, but it's still going to make me feel old when people will be able to post "I was born in 2010" and not get banned for it.
2009 was the last year of decent vidya.
>>728502951More like the poopen age.
>>728524321it's 20+ years oldWe are old
>>728527901NTA but most of people can't get over the fact that things made in the 2000s can be considered to be old after a certain period of time. Retro = Pre 2000s has become the definition for too long, no one seem to want to update it.
>>728502605What if I'm born in 2000 doe?
>>728519478the occasional half decent threads are the only thing drawing me back to this hellhole. emphasis on occasional; shit like resident thread schizos, general culture war bullshit and/or porn addicts infect threads for plenty of series' that i have actual interest in
>>728504654But videogames actually did peak when I was younger. You can just compare the quantity of non-indie vidya releases and it's night and day. More games would release in a year than we get in half a decade now. And it's not as if the quality was worse.
>>728504654it's either this or "born in the wrong generation." nobody ever says the media that was made when they were 50 was the best.
The protoform of /pol/ bullshit were the moralfag debates and Akagiposting. I thought the anti-moralfags were literal retards back then and I still think /pol/fags belong face down in a ditch.
>>728502826You remember correctly. 2010-2013 were when 4chan went terminal. Then it died in 2014 but to be fair that happened to the entire internet in 2014.I feel genuinely bad for younger zoomers that missed out experiencing the internet before it was ruined forever.
