i'm still playing prime 1. probably 9hrs in now. i'm enjoying it, i think the game even looks great with resolution turned up a bit. i got widescreen and primehack working fine but dunno how to fix ui, theres a cheat for 1.0 but i'm using 1.2 so i havent messed with it otherwisethough i played metroid 1-super way back in the day, this is my first time playing a 3d one, and its decent so far. if anything its to easy. the ice boss gave me the most trouble of anything in the game so far.

Beyond isn’t the worst Metroid game, but it’s mediocre at best and the timing couldn’t be worse. This was Metroid’s shot at being a strong holiday release and Retro absolutely fucking beefed it with this middling hallway shooter slop. Metroid will never see these production values again. But honestly, what’s so bad about that? Dread had a small budget and it was pure kino, they should just focus on making 2D Metroids every five years or so.

Overall I have mixed feelings for the game. For most of the game I was really really enjoying myself. It really lived up the the Metroid Prime name with it's beautiful environments and music. The world was interesting and the story intriguing. I liked the characters (even though I know most people didn't). Fury Green, Volt Forge, Ice Shelf and the Volcano were all great places to explore. I thought the new psychic powers were cool and appreciated the return of classic powerups to use in new and interesting ways. Playing the game with headphones really accentuated the musical score and I highly recommend playing with them or using a surround sound system since the music and soundscape in the game are top notch. Using Vi O La was fun and I didn't mind the desert area too much but I will admit it did get kind of tedious and boring near the end of the game. Although I do appreciate some of the cool hidden secrets in the desert, having a few extra boss battles was a pleasant surprise and broke up the monotony of the desert. While I was playing I was having a great time, at least until near the end of the game. The final dungeon, the mech part hunt and the grinding of green energy crystals was easily the worst part of the game for me. Even the final boss battle seemed almost like an afterthought, or at least Sylux as a character/antagonist was. He had basically 0 setup or payoff as a character which sucked. All we had was the secret ending movie in Metroid Prime 3 and the intro to 4 as any sort of character development. Metroid Prime was a much better antagonist imo. I don't know if they just ran out of time when developing the game or what, but up until that point the game was really great and then it just comes crashing to a halt near the end. I can at least understand the negative reception the game has gotten now, even though my experience with it was I still think more positive overall. Before the ending I would have given it a solid 9/10 which astounds me. (Cont'd)

How hard is it to write a story for a fucking video game? Considering the budget of games today including MP4, you would assume that it's the hardest thing ever.
