It's over for consoles.

>With six months in the market, it remains the fastest-selling video game hardware in U.S. history. However, part of what was driving that was its availability to be bought during its launch window. It's been extremely rare to have such a successful new device not suffer supply constraints going into its first holiday sales period. Unit sales of Switch 2 were lower than those of Switch 1 during each console's first November, but the price points are also quite different. The average price paid for a new Nintendo Switch in November 2017 was $309 (which, if adjusted for inflation, is approximately $405 in November 2025 dollars), compared to the $486 for Switch 2 in November 2025. Perhaps it is a case of demand having been pulled forward earlier in the year because people could find them. Or perhaps the mass market is not as quickly adopting Switch 2 as it did Switch. Or perhaps consumers are looking elsewhere for holiday gifting as the prices continue to rise in video game hardware. Tough to say at the moment.

sucks being poor. also, the u.s. and european financial systems are literally designed to continue creating more debt endlessly for all eternity until everything finally collapses. elon musk even admitted as much on toe rogain. what does this all mean? it means that weimar era is inevitable and we'll eventually get to the point where a loaf of bread costs a million dollars/eurobuxx and where half of us will be perma-unemployed. so why don't you guys knock your heads together and try and do something about this, before we all reach this point? wouldn't that be in your best interests, or something? also, democracy is a lie, people don't actually vote for things that are in their best interests, if they did, we wouldn't be in this situation right now, to begin with.

NOOOO YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND RETRO IS ONLY WHAT'S OLD TO M- I MEAN IT'S ALL BASED ON GAME DESIGN REEEEEE
>>
Why do companies like Sony and MS refuse to make products worth buying?
>>
>>728708873
That's true.
None of that mean people won't regret having spent hundreds if not thousands on digital libraries once things inevitably get even worse than they currently are.
Hopefully people will just stop spending and be resilient so that consoles either die or go back to being good.
PC should be fine for the most part.
>>
>>728709468
Retro is a specific period of time. It cannot apply to future time periods just because it became old. Games released in 1990 were retro in 2000. They're retro today too. Games released in 2007 can never be retro. They can be old, classic even, but never retro.

It is based on game design. But the PS360 era still had big budget AAA releases with either 4:3 default aspect ratio, fixed camera angles and/or tank controls, which would be totally unthinkable today. The Wii, which was a contemporary console managed to be massively successful despite a max resolution of 480p.
