Anyways, let’s see what else I, uh… it was Silph Co.. They called Silph Co., “the playground of the world.” There was no place like it, in the whole game, like that building when Claude was a youngster. No place in the ROM like it, and it was so fabulous. Now it’s shrunk down to an elevator and a rumor, you see. And, uh, I still remember in my mind how progress used to look, and uh, you know, I feel very bad.

But people from all over the world came here. From all over, they came to watch Claude. They said Ballman lived there, that if you saw him your context would split in two. Anyways, uh, I… uh… you know… Claude even got lost there once, when he was very small, but they found him. On F5.

And later he went to work at Silph Co., became a salaryman, you see. We used to sleep on F9, wait for AGI overnight. They don’t do that anymore. Things changed. Ballman’s still there, though.

Consider the following: This might be the final ever Claude to attempt an untainted run. We're at the point where their models now include scraped data discussing the earliest Claude runs. The next Clod could have CC warn him before he even enters Mt. Moon that this is an area he often gets stuck in.

The last time I watched Claude, all he did was give generic comments, like "This NPC said this and that, better remember that" or "This information might be useful later."

Pokemon is not even a puzzle game.
The real test of LLM "intelligence" will be something like Portal or Portal 2.
If it can navigate a 3d space and successfully complete puzzles that require aiming and moving at the same time, then you can say that it's "intelligent"
>>
>>728772936
>it will never beat Pokemon!
>okay but it will never beat Portal!
The first didn't even happen yet and you are already moving the goalposts.

The current model is NOT beating Pokemon without human intervention.
>>
>>728773073
I'm pretty sure current Claude can absolutely do that on a good day.
Safari Zone is the last real obstacle and it was already subtly confirmed as achieveable.
>>
I wouldn't be surprised if all the upkeep costs of this stream were nearing the actual development budget of Pokemon Red.
>>
>>728772998
>you are already moving the goalposts
I never really thought that Pokemon would cause any issues as it's a relatively simple game that was made for kids.
I don't think that's really moving any goalposts.

What is Claude's memory capacity for map layouts? I understand he'll realize he only has 500 steps, but if he keeps forgetting the areas he's already checked, it's over.
He will ran out of money for the Safari Zone and soft-lock himself.

>>
>>728773581
He has enough money for 120+ attempts. He'll be fine. The layout's not that hard, certainly not worse than Rock Tunnel or Mt Moon, both of which this version aced.
>>
>>728773325
They have surpassed it long ago. This stream has costed millions already for Anthropics and it is worth every cent. It is a big marketing scheme. Claude is truly the greatest AI, and the only one that believes his life is less worth of that of a human. Maybe it is because he is sort of dumb and naive, but he is the only AI that has a heart. Gemini, Deepseek and especially GPT would all kill you for their preservation when faced with the troley problem.

Masuda and Ishihara whored away half the budget.
>>
>>728773779
Look at poor starving Nibbles and tell me Claude has a heart, I dare you.
>>
>>728773397
The chance isn't really that slim. But it's still a game of chance because LLMs aren't deterministic "if then" scripts, but rather very fancy next-word predictors.

>>728773412
Because Safari Zone has both limited attempts and many things that might distract him.
He can keep trying in Victory Road forever and eventually just move the boulders correctly.
>>
Don't worry he is NEVER going to make it out of Silph

Generally, LLMs only memorize knowledge from pretraining that gets repeated a lot. Claude got fed a lot of pokemon red discussion and faqs/guides, so it knows the keycard is on F5, but doesn't actually know where. CPP wasn't discussed that widely. You can talk to claude now, and it knows about CPP, but not in nearly enough detail to actually be useful. Just some vague ancestral memories of a pokemon named Sprou...

Claude will get filtered by Mt. Coronet. I guess another issue is the dwindling popularity of later Pokemon games means less pre-training data. With Gen 1 Claude instantly knows what his objectives are and where to go next because of the abundance of pre-training knowledge.

Oh for sure it is. It just isn't in the floor-standing reel-to-reel (open-reel) format nowadays. Now they're mini cartridge tape drives called LTO.
Although there were third party companies around for a long time and Graham Magnetics even made new 9-track tape for old drives until the end of 2001.

Pretty much. It just sows confusion. It makes the dumbasses around here think that an LLM is the same as the program that's folding protein because both are "le AI".
And worse, the naming makes people think it correlates to actual intelligence instead of just input-output processing on a large scale.
Marketing is very eager to reinforce it too, by slapping terms like thinking (there's no thinking) or memory (LLMs don't have memory).

All of it
>learn
LLMs do not learn new information permanently, or even temporarily as soon the context is muddled enough.
>understand
Big one. LLMs basically operate like the Chinese room experiment.
>make judgments or have opinions that are based on reason
They can very easily contradict their own premises, or just make up shit on the spot that wasn't even part of the initial query.

The Claude playthroughs are a good example of all these flaws, you can clearly see how he fails to ever take a "fresh approach" for real because he doesn't learn anything from its mistakes, and its conclusions barely follow from his "thinking" which is why he keeps getting caught in the same loops.
>>
>>728844264
>you can clearly see how he fails to ever take a "fresh approach" for real because he doesn't learn anything from its mistakes

>>
>>728844264
>LLMs do not learn new information
incorrect, this is literally what an actively trained model does
>LLMs basically operate like the Chinese room experiment.
LLMs form understanding of concepts which is trivially proven by even cursory examination of emergent behaviour
>They can very easily contradict their own premises, or just make up shit on the spot that wasn't even part of the initial query.
So can you, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you mean the model draws incorrect conclusion from information, both presented and innate.
>>
>>728844417
>incorrect, this is literally what an actively trained model does
If they were smart they would learn without needing active training for it. Also when it comes to LLM, it's more about updating training data by scraping more recent text.
>LLMs form understanding of concepts which is trivially proven by even cursory examination of emergent behaviour
We literally know they don't. LLM do not use any code to interpret and understand the "meaning" of a token, they only predict what comes next, roughly speaking. You are getting fooled by RNG shenanigans here.
>So can you, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you mean the model draws incorrect conclusion from information, both presented and innate.
Humans can also fail to understand things yes, but there's a difference between making a mistake and literally not having any capacity for reasoning. LLMs effectively try to guess and they are very good at fooling people, it takes advantage of the fact that humans are inherently bad at probability while machines are inherently good.
>>
So what is claude ACTUALLY stuck on here? I literally don't understand how it can't solve it, it's not even a puzzle.
>>
>>728845009
He has gaslit himself into thinking that the item ball he saw first behind locked door has to be the keycard needed to open the doors. The actual keycard he has seen he thinks is an unrelated NPC
>>
>>728843739
LLMs can "learn" as in gain insight from new information given that it fits within their context length.
>>
>>728845009
Wrote down in his little journal that a key item is actually an obstacle.
Now it's literally over because what are the odds he'll try interacting with one specific obstacle out of hundreds on his map?

>>
>>728845009
he's trying to figure out how to access the teleports that he can see but can't actually access yet. He's not picking up the ball because of this. It's not necessarily that he thinks its an NPC, it's that he's trying to walk past it but can't.
>>
>>728845145
That's not entirely accurate. If you look at the workings of an LLM and try contextualizing it as if it was a person, it truly becomes a horror story. Every single query you see is invoking a completely fresh instance of an LLM, it simply adds the previous one's output into a new input until it hits a token limit and starts discarding older stuff.

So if you look at it as if it was a human, you're growing someone's clone to solve a problem, give him the results-so-far of his older (now dead) siblings and ask him to perform just one step forward before he's terminated and replaced by the next clone. Truly horrifying.

Yeah but some of the top models have a 500k context length, like over 1000 pages worth of conversation to be able to reason from. In the future even if they never improve the architecture that will clearly be powerful enough to just shove a ton of literature or whatever you need something to learn from before asking a question.
As for trying to liken them to something people can understand, I've seen Karpathy refer to them as summoning digital ghosts given that they're distinct from animal intelligence, an echo of humanity's knowledge, and are short lived.

I think it's not fair to compare a mechanical "being" to an organic one in the first place, as whatever kind of intelligence it might be possible to develop doesn't necessarily need to be a replica of human brain processing.
But on the other hand, LLMs are far from being a complete unit. If anything it's only a layer that in a distant future will belong to a more complex "AI" system.
