how are the combat and gameplay elements in general in the Death Stranding games?
>>
2 has alot more combat than 1, as well as alot more tools and fun ways to tackle combat
>>
I love the fact that Kojima doesn't use hitscan for anything, everything is a projectile, combat is always fun.
On the other hand, there's something oddly satisfying about preparing your loadout in this game, since you have to carry everything on your person. No other game does that and it feels great. Yum yum.

I only played the first one.
The base gameplay was good, but there was a point, after figuring out holding down both triggers for balance is an optimal strategy, where I wished for more difficulty and complexity. Beyond the basic minute to minute gameplay, the meta game of resource collection and management carried me through the game.
I haven't gotten a chance to play 2, as I don't have a PS5.

I only played the first one and I spent half the time in combat with enemy delivery-men and floating ghost monsters. So I enjoyed it enough to actually seek it out in between package delivering. I wanna say everyone thought it was fucking garbage though but maybe I'm making that up.

People liked it iirc, but I think everyone agreed the weight shifting mechanic was more of an oddity than a challenge after people realized you could just hold down both triggers to get around most situations.

I was just talking about the combat. The weight stuff was fine to me I didn't remember anyone crying about that just how "boring the combat" was. You know what is kind of funny? I broke my PS4 controller playing DS. One of the triggers from holding it down for so damn long. I mean I'm sure it was weakened from years of use but DS took it to the grave.
>>
Combat in DS1 is servicable, but its absolutely not the main pull, it's just complimentary. Combat in DS2 is much improved and sort of like a lite MGSV, there's way more of it, but its still secondary to the game's traversal mechanics

You can always get too greedy and fall anyway. One of the aspects (or the true enemy?) of the games is the sense lf boredom, that invites you to get reckless and do something stupid regardless of how good you are.

it's been a while since i played this but doesn't that slow you down a little

The game isn't hard, but the combat is just OK. You can stealth it if you want, or just go in guns blazing whatever you really feel like doing, but the combat is mostly confined to the enemy camps. You can just knock them out and they respawn a few days later every time. Most of the time you can just drive through their camps and ignore them unless there's a delivery where you have to recover something from their camp, in which case you can do it stealth or just knock them all out.

Unlike the first game there's no lethal weapons that I can remember, everything just knocks out the enemies so you don't have to worry about a game over screen if you accidently kill one of them.

This. It was the perfect game to chill out with and go into big think trance - not so much because of the story or setting but just the atmosphere of the game. Like you say it could have done with more challenging content, because the only way you're going to get a challenge is if you're already shit at the game which is pretty funny to me. Like all those BT infested areas in the mountains that anyone with half a brain will never have to deal with because of ziplines, imagine the seethe of a shitter running into them, already ill prepared.

It's just weird because the core elements of this game are all things I typically hate, but by far this was one of the most enjoyable experiences I've ever had.
>cinematic, long cutscenes
>backtracking fetch quests
>open world
>sneak past creepy crawlies;)
>read a novel worth of in-game text to understand the story
>collectathon

Never played a Kojima game before this so idk if that's part of it but I thought the whole thing was just incredible from start to finish. That said I see no reason to ever play the second one

Tedious. In DS1 you can't just repair and restock your gear with the press of a button, you have to manually recycle and recraft everything one by one because it took 5% damage from the rain, or because you used on grenade out of 3, and it is now triggering your OCD.
>>
>>728745398
basically well designed but tuned to be easy in 95% of cases.
unfortunately it doesn't feel like a game until you get really greedy or do something really stupid.
>>
>>728745398
How do I say this, DS2 has some infiltration/ extract missions outside of delivery stuff, when you start doing them the game becomes Phantom Pain I'm not even kidding
>>
>>728748585
At a certain point the game isnt about the difficulty of delivering but optimizing so at you can build optimal routes for every location using ziplines, jumping off ramps and floating with your jetpack and using vehicles, in ds2 its expanded since you have much more tools

thx kojimbo

It does

Walking is peak gameplay in both games. Combat is alright but feels out of place especially in DS2 where you have so many options to just delete all encounters.
Trucking is boring as fuck and worst part of both games.

I dunno. The gameplay in the first game was a bit barebones but I respected the way it committed to the bit. You weren't playing a soldier or a mercenary, you were playing a courier and pioneer, the primary gameplay was about navigating the environment and building infrastructure to make it easier and while there was combat, it was mostly incidental outside the bossfight, it punctuated the gameplay rather than being the gameplay.

I had hoped the second game would double down on the survival elements, add more dynamic weather and environmental obstacles and maybe something akin to MGS3's injury system. But instead it doubled down on combat and action, which I think was a bad call. In DS2 it genuinely does feel like you're playing a generic open world action game at times. It even has some of the designates "liberate the outpost from enemies" missions. It just doesn't really expand enough on what made the gameplay of DS1 unique and instead makes it more like other open word shooters.

the first game's combat is funny, and not in a bad way. the dc added hilariously good melee moves so you can run towards mules and jump kick them, or just do flying cross body slams on them. if you carrying bunch of cargo you can just run into people and use your weight to slam into enemies and stun them. using cargo as a weapon is a hilarious good time, just chucking cases full of metals at people, or just swinging cases at people. or you can just hit people with your truck and send them flying. you can play it stealthily if you like and ambush people but that's kinda boring. like others have said combat isn't really the main focus, but what it has is pretty dun.

Combat in 1 is ok, little basic. Combat in 2 is super fun, I'm more of an explorer, but 2's combat is fun. There's so many ways to fight, here's some.

> Stealth with various tools, like rope chokes.
> Ranged with various guns and ammos
> Various grenades
> Vehicle with various mounted turrets and auto turrets.
> Traps
> Various melee and martial arts
> Odd weapons like rubber pizza dough
> Aerial bombardments and long range mortars
> BT pets, especially good when using your giant BT against enemy giant BT's.

They all get the job done, but some are better for some things and not for others.
