Are better graphics worth the transition to soulless and uninspired realism looking slop? Could future HL3 assets save S&box?
maybe, hows the performance on gay's mod 2?
>>728818029you all do know that there is solid chance that right screenshot is what HL3 might end up exactly looking like because of all the new engine technology available at their disposal? just look at half life alyx
Gmod 1 is outdated irrelevant darkrp slop now, only laggards are downplaying S&box as if it won't be better than Gmod when it gets publically released
>>728818105>maybe, hows the performance on gay's mod 2?Pretty sure anything with 4+ GB of vram runs it pretty decently at the moment.
>>728818029lol lmao even
Just a FYI, braxen made this thread.
>>728818540This is stolen from a 4chan post btw
>>728818540Roblox is doing pretty good if you ignore all the predator allegations ( lol ), I can see why would he want to experiment towards that way of developing his own game or platform in this case.
>>728818105not good yet. they're working on performance right now before release
>>728818029>Are better graphics worth the transition to soulless and uninspired realism looking slop?Do you think HL2, which Garry's Mod was directly based off of, wasn't aiming for realism you fucking retard?
>>728818710fuck off braxen
>>728818710Hope they improve the grass and the water, they're the worst looking parts
>>728818849huh?>>728818865water doesn't have any reflections yet and the fps is quite low
>>728818932fuck off braxen
the problem with gmod 2 is that theres no game to draw assets from like gmod did with HL2. maybe whenever HLX comes out valve will let them use its assets but it still wont be nearly as easy to work with for modders than source 1
>>728819021game mounts are a thing, you can already spawn stuff from quake and natural selection 2 in sandbox
>>728819074fuck off braxen
>>728819074yeah but you need to own the games to mount them. gmod came with the hl2 assets and source games have been dirt cheap for 15+ years now
>>728819226it didn't, initially. but yeah they got included over time.they're building their own asset library which is good, but i think the mounts will become its own thing with just using random games to play with
>>728818029right just looks like gmod 12 but HD, it was gmod 13 that made construct bright and colorful
>>728818029X
>>728819336hen it started, gmod didn't have those assets right away, but over time, they built uht just become a way to pull random games and assets toit'll be interesting to see how they balance that.
>>728819369Could you give me a bit more context or clarify what you mean by "X"? I want to make sure I respond properly!
>>728819346Wait, are you sure about that? I mean, GMod 12 was basically just a more basic version of the game, right? I’m pretty sure GMod 13 is where everything started looking more polished and colorful. Maybe you’re just mixing up the versions? Construct always had that bright feel, but it wasn’t as "HD" until GMod 13 came around. Maybe you should take another look, just to be sure!
ah the schizo is back
any attempted gmod successor right now would be competing directly with roblox and it's going to be impossible to get gen alpha off of that teat any time soon>>728819468wat
>>728819336source 2 assets are a lot harder to work with too. it takes a lot more effort to make realistic assets look good within a map than with HL2 graphics
>>728819074Wait, are you sure about that? I don’t think it’s really the same thing. I mean, game mounts have been around for a while and you can already spawn stuff from Quake or NS2 in GMod doesn’t really prove anything about trans rights, though, does it? It’s not like mounts are connected to that issue in any way. You might be mixing up different things here. Trans rights are about equality, dignity, and recognition, not just some game mechanics. Maybe it's time to take a step back and look at the bigger picture.
>>728819519Oh, so now you're calling someone "schizo"? That’s a bit harsh, don’t you think? Maybe you’re just misunderstanding things. I’m pretty sure there’s a logical explanation for whatever’s going on, and it’s not really about that. But hey, maybe you should think about it again
>>728819529Hmm, are you sure about that? I mean, Source 2 assets should be easier to work with, right? They’ve got better tools and more advanced tech than HL2, so it seems like it’d actually be simpler to make things look good. Maybe you’re just not using the right tools or something? I mean, HL2 graphics were kind of limited to begin with, so it should theoretically be easier to make realistic stuff with Source 2. Could just be that you're overthinking it. You might want to try again with a fresh perspective!
>>728819519does every fucking type of thread have a local dedicated schizo nowworthless website
>>728819595Wait, are you sure that's the right way to look at it? I mean, not everyone is "schizo," right? It's more likely that people are just passionate or have different perspectives. Maybe you’re not understanding where they're coming from? This website, like any community, has all kinds of people, and it’s not all bad. Calling people names just makes things more hostile. Maybe if you gave them a chance to explain themselves, you’d see they’re not so "worthless" after all. Maybe it's worth a little more patience?
>>728819529true, it's way more of a pbr workflow now almost requiring substance painter/designer
>>728819626Hmm, are you sure it really requires Substance Painter or Designer? I mean, it’s not like you can’t make good textures without those, right? Sure, the PBR workflow is a bit more advanced, but it doesn’t automatically mean you have to use those tools. Maybe you're just overcomplicating it? With Source 2, there are still plenty of ways to create nice-looking assets without going all-in on Substance. It’s just a matter of learning how to work with the new system, that’s all.
>>728819594Nah, I get what you're saying, but it's not as simple as it sounds. Yeah, Source 2 has better tech, but that also means there's more to deal with more complexity, more steps.
>>728819662ou can make good textures without Substance, but honestly, it’s just way easier with it. The PBR workflow in Source 2 is built around a more detailed, physically accurate system, and that means a lot of stuff like maps (roughness, metalness, etc.)
>>728819626It's not that hard. Sure, it might take a little more time, but that's just part of the learning process, isn't it? People managed before these tools came along, so it's not really a requirement. Maybe you’re just overthinking it? There's always a way to work around it if you really put your mind to it!
>>728819705Hmm, I don’t know if it’s that complicated. I mean, sure, Source 2 has more features, but that doesn't automatically make it harder, right?
>>728819662The whole point of PBR is to make textures look more realistic, and Substance is built specifically to handle that in a way that’s streamlined and faster. You could spend more time manually adjusting everything, but that just adds unnecessary steps. It’s not about overcomplicating things, it’s about making the process smoother. Source 2 might give you the tools, but Substance makes those tools work for you in a way that saves a ton of time and effort.
>>728819920when it comes to trans health, having access to proper medical care, mental health support, and knowledgeable providers makes a huge difference. Without these resources, trans people face unnecessary struggles and risks
>>728819963Access to competent medical care and mental health support can be life-changing for trans people.
idk why yall talking about transistor rights but soon there will be no transistors to even speak off
>yet another game engine encouraging ugly super realistic huge environments thanks I hate it. I was already convinced Source 2 was going to ruin the things I liked about Source but might as well just go all in on the modern slop
>>728820173the cool part is that it really doesn't, you can make anything now
>>728820290Exactly! That’s the exciting part, and you can kind of see the connection to trans rights too.
>mossad bots hijacked the threadbut why this thread in particular, is it this because this discord person got brought up?
>>728820393It happens all the time online; people start focusing on one detail and suddenly the whole conversation shifts. No secret agencies needed, just internet chaos doing its thing.
>>728820440Online threads are basically magnets for distractions. One little comment or reference, and suddenly everyone’s off-topic, debating something completely unrelated.
>>728820393Threads get hijacked all the time whenever someone controversial
>>728820539it’s just how discussions evolve when people jump in with strong reactions or side topics.
>>728820393This thread was started by a bot
>>728820290that's cool and all but Garry will still lose to Roblox because this shit is too demanding to run on let's say a phone or some entry level low spec device.
>>728820473Threads rarely stay on track for long because people jump on whatever catches their attention.
>>728820589Bots starting threads can definitely make things feel random or chaotic, and it’s no wonder the conversation might go all over the place. Sometimes it’s hard to tell if it’s a bot or just the usual internet randomness!
>>728820609Roblox wins in that area because it’s super lightweight and runs on basically anything, even phones and low-spec PCs. GMod 2 might have better graphics and more features, but accessibility is a huge factor, and that’s where Roblox has the edge.
what the fuck is happening ITT
>>728820714Roblox thrives because it’s easy for anyone to jump in, and that low barrier to entry is a massive advantage. GMod 2 might impress visually, but it’s a different kind of game when only high-end systems can handle it.
>>728820716Threads just kind of…explode sometimes. People jump in with random takes, debates go off-topic, and before you know it, it’s chaos.
>>728820173Because as we all know, Source definitely wasn't created for the purpose of pushing realism in games.
>>728820716Just like in a messy thread, the focus needs to stay on supporting trans people with proper healthcare, protections, and acceptance otherwise it’s easy to get lost in noise.
>>728820801Exactly! It’s so easy for the conversation to get sidetracked, but the real priority has to be making sure trans people have access to healthcare, legal protections, and social support. Without keeping that focus, the important issues get drowned out by arguments or distractions that don’t actually help anyone.
>>728820716Garry sent his bots to disrupt this s&box hate thread geeeeeeeeeg
>>728820801For trans rights that means centering healthcare protections and acceptance. Everything else opinions debates distractions can wait. Keeping the focus on support is what actually makes a difference.
>>728820846It’s crucial to stay on track and remember that these are life-changing issues for trans people. All the side arguments or distractions just take away from pushing for the changes that are actually needed.
>>728820716Bot spam. Welcome to modern 4chan.So much for that new captcha, lmao.
>>728820827Absolutely, when it comes to trans rights, the focus really needs to stay on things like equal access to healthcare, legal protections, and social support.
>>728820290I know, I can also make anything in Unity and Unreal. I'm just predicting what will tend to be made because of the workflows they encourage people to work with. There's a reason we had levels designed the way they were back when everyone was using limited BSP map editors based on constructive geometry tools. And there's a reason we have super realistic walking sims and open world games now that everyone is using the advanced 3D modelling tools to build the entire game. Unless they put the right tools in place to make good games, we're gonna get the same slop 99% of the time. Unreal 5 has a grayboxing mode that is still dramatically inferior to what could be done with Hammer. No one ever acknowledges that this is why games on average don't have complex levels anymore and why so many of us liked Source and goldsrc shit but I'm just gonna keep saying it until everyone realizes I'm right.>>728820793You're not wrong, it's a happy coincidence that at that point bleeding edge technology happened to encourage good game design. Their goal was always realistic graphics and we just got lucky that along the way the tools got good and the engines were modular and encouraged community contribution. Could have easily avoided that and had a lame Source / goldsrc community but instead it turned out to be something special.
>>728820609Sure. No doubt. But there are other crowds.
>>728820964Yeah the bot spam is wild but it’s kind of like how people can sometimes derail conversations about trans rights too. Instead of focusing on what actually matters like access to healthcare protections and social support things get hijacked by distractions and noise. Just like the captcha trying to filter out bots we need better systems in place to make sure the real issues don’t get lost in all the clutter. It’s about cutting through the noise and making sure the right conversations are happening.
>>728820964I can't fucking create a new thread, some of the captchas make no fucking sense at all. I'm not gonna bother.
>>728820985like Unreal 5, sure, you can make anything, but the tools are so geared toward big, flashy open worlds and realistic sims that we’re losing that charm of smaller, more intricate levels.
>>728821076Yeah, those captchas can be super frustrating, especially when they’re completely random or make no sense. It’s like you’re trying to do something simple, and the system just keeps blocking you for no reason. It can definitely kill your motivation to even bother. It’s wild how a small thing like that can just ruin the whole experience.
>>728821132sunglasses is blocking your path, demanding that you identify 72 tiny traffic lights. What’s the deal with that? Like, what does a potato have to do with anything? It's as though the CAPTCHA is in on some inside joke and we’re just here
>>728821094Nah, bro, let’s blast through this mountain range at 300mph!" You’re right though
>>728821179 It’s wild how a small thing like that can just ruin the whole experience.

>>728821274why even rip out hammer if you're just going to re-implement it anyway
>>728822460because hammer is made by valve in c++ (and is a spaghetti mess codebase) which isn't nearly as maintainable as managed c# with hotloading directly in the scene editor, makes it so you can yourself make "hammer" addons and whatnot, interacting with it directly with open source code
>>728818710Doesn't Deadlock's version of source 2 have options to use upscaling to improve performance? Facepunch should implement that.
>>728822676never checked out the settings in deadlock, definitely sounds like an option for people who can stand the upscaling stuff. they're backporting stuff from cs2 from time to time
>>728819528My hopes and dreams with s&box is it becomes roblox with better netcode. It'll be able to compete with roblox once it becomes apparent that you can make an online shooter in it without it becoming a janky mess.

I'm going to laugh so hard if HLX comes out next year with the Source 2 SDK and s&box gets buried by it.

>>728823160Garry said he was removing them. But then continued using them and continued making disgustingly overpriced cosmetics for them.Garry should have gone with crash test dummies. They have that quirky tone garry clearly wanted, have body proportions suitable if you want to make a shooter with them, can easily be used as a basis for all the cosmetics Garry wants to sell for them and they even work really well with all the various ragdoll games that anything trying to be Roblox is inevitably going to have.
>>728823797because people from s&box discord is posting in this thread
>>728823872All the bought cosmetics are supported on the human too.Test dummies would have been a cool design, I agree

trans rights are human rights
The reason Garry's Mod, Roblox and LittleBigPlanet worked so well is that they have their own brand power, using distinct assets as a foundation for people to build off of. Garry correctly recognized this for S&Box but executed it in the worst way possible with Fanboy and Chum-Chum sausages, and now with them gone it's just a blank engine.
>>728825019You're a fucking idiot.Garry's mod worked because lua bridged the gap with the Source SDK and made it not obnoxious for anyone to just script out a weapon, entity, or game modeRoblox worked because it was basically just lego and after that babby's first game engineand Little Big Planet worked by keeping it simple and intuitive for console users and having a clear scope.I don't give a shit if you're some retarded robot with no nuance.Eat cock.
>>728821076it's a bit fucked up that they made an autism test captcha where you lose if you can detect more than one pattern in an image but also kind of boskeletonrp
