The problem with Minecraft for the last few years is that it has had the most confused development direction ever imagined.There's one guy at minecraft who is under the impression they are making an educational game to teach kids about different types of igneous rocks and what foods are bad for what animals, and he's the guy who fucks around with animal mobs because "it's not realistic." There's another guy at minecraft who is under the impression he's making Skyrim Remastered: Blocks Edition (he made the spear because it was More Tactical), and one guy who has watched Youtube videos and is under the impression they're designing Industrial Slaughter Simulator 2024. All of them live in separate offices and add their updates independently of each other and don't know the others exist.

Once he started making money Notch started blowing off updates or releasing half assed ones in favor of going out to party and get shitfaced. There were periods where game breaking or server crashing bugs would go ages without getting fixed and the 1.0 release was a fucking mess that Notch had rushed out too coincide with his wedding. Doesn't help that the game was coded in fucking Java of all things. Also it's pretty apparent that Notch never really had a solid design in mind while he was making the game and it shows in how much shit, including shit he worked on is either pointless, made redundant due to other shit, or only has purpose due to bugs.Honestly the only reason I think Minecraft was as successful as it was is because it filled a niche at the time that no other developers were bothering to fill at the time. Closest there was at the time was infiniminer and that had long since been abandoned.

Anything after Notch stopped working on the game isn't real, and even some of his later stuff isn't worth touching either. The game was pretty much perfect in Beta 1.7.3.

Not because the mechanic "ruined the game", but because it was indicative of the direction the game was going, tedium for the sake of tedium with no purpose except to be a tedium that punishes you for not allocating your miserably limited inventory towards it, in a game that's adding more and more different items to bloat up your inventory and none of the resources they offer are successfully mitigating this because they decided having proper inventory management should be a Post-Ender Dragon reward (Shulker Boxes).
