The main threat that will get the internet as we know fucked is the government, which will most likely result in isolated networks in the future, so you won't be able to access servers outside your country. The AI craze is just the improved version of the covid lockdowns. They gave up on that because they realized that hostile takeover is much simpler if they just force you to hand over everything you have, so they can control 100% of what you're allowed to do. If it wasn't for AI we would still be bombarded by covid propaganda, now they're focusing on this instead. But yes, the ultimate goal is complete surveillance and the crippling of the internet and consequently free speech and freedom itself. We have about 1 or 2 years left, maybe a bit more if there's enough pushback to make them scared, but it's ultimately inevitable.
