Fighting games should not have combos, grabs or ultras.
They should be jab-for-jab.

Extremely midwit take.
A fighting game with no combos/grabs/ultras, either intended or unintended, is no better than a party game. Because limiting the systems present puts a hard cap on the character and skill expression. Makes the game feel incredibly boring and unrewarding in the long run.

They make games that exhibit the logical endpoint of your ideaology. Footsies, Divekick, "mobile" fighting games, etc. They die after a day or two since the novelty quickly wears off.

>combos
I enjoy small strings
>grabs
wow great idea blocking is free now
>ultras
theyre gay

my favourite fighting game is melee as the defensive options while being combo'd are great. 2d fighter combo breaks are extremely lazy
