The game almost tries to imply he is a villain through most of it.In most of the endings you unwittingly help his plan despite knowing nothing of his goals, which makes me think that the entire assault thing could have been avoided if Yorinobu actually knew who you were and what your issues are. In Hanako ending you unwittingly put a stop to his plan, which is kind of hilarious when you consider Adam Smasher is actually trying to prevent you from stopping the plan to destroy arasaka.V and Yorinobu both had nothing but to gain in helping each other, you just never get the chance to talk its actually kind of funny in how much of the plot could have just been avoided by this simple misunderstanding.

The pills are a story element to let us 'hand Johnny the wheel' but from a psychological standpoint it's not a switch being flipped, it's more akin to a paper towel having one corner dipped into a puddle, it slowly absorbs more until it's entirely saturated.CDPR does put some subtle narrative hints about V slowly changing from who he was to more 'Silverhand-esque' (smoking being a big one) but the biggest flaw with that is we barely get any actual narrative with just V between their origin and the heist to establish them as their own person. Even then, I feel that a lot of the change is player-driven in how you envision your V and how the Relic and Johnny affects them and the choices they make. Roleplaying in my RPG? How dare they.Also mostly just a theory of mine, but the reason why Johnny is, majority of the time, just a parrot on your shoulder is because he decides to help save them rather than aggressively take over, and consciously suppresses his presence to allow V to make their own decisions even if his subconscious has a hand in influencing them.

Your very existence could jeopardize his cover story, so it makes more sense that he would want you dead rather than ever help you.The only reason you have any in with Arasaka at all is because of Takemura, whom Yori tries to flatline along with you to tie up every possible loose end.He is painted as the villain, and V (and the player) comes to believe that, because of his circumstances and the people that he needs to ally with in the Devil ending. But if you pay attention to the world around you, see the stories unfolding through certain gigs and questlines, you can start to paint the real picture that Yori is doing what so many edgerunner's and anti-corpos have dreamed about, destroying Arasaka. Something that only someone of the family could have ever actually pulled off. The catch is that he doesn't need V's help to do so, unlike Hanako and Goro. The setting and story are also pretty blatant in the messaging that you should never trust corporats anyways. I guarantee that even if there was a pathway where V could assist Yori with taking down Saka, it'd likely end with him just flatlining you once your usefulness is spent, just as the Hanako ending is you getting Soulkilled and filed away into Mikoshi under the pretense that, "Yeah maybe someday we'll have the technology to put you back into a body."
