Are we buying one?
>>
>>728926965
Quest 3 is better
>>
>>728926965
I will if I can trade in my Index.
>>
>>728927627
zucc'd
>>
Is there any chance of a cheaper version that can only play games from your PC? Have no need for the standalone shit.
>>
>>
>>728927859
PSVR2
>>
yeah, since my index cable broke three times and the BSB I bought to replace it the third time sucks donkey dick
>>
>>728926965
Don't we still know basically nothing about this thing, or did we get the specs and price?
>>
>>728928107
specs are literally on the website that valve uses to fuck me personally in the ass : https://store.steampowered.com/sale/steamframe go to the bottom.
>>
>>728928107
They dropped the specs when they announced it, and mentioned that the price was going to be cheaper than the Index. Essentially it will be a non-subsidized Quest 3 with better PC support and ergonomics.
>>
>>728928107
it can't be cheaper than quest3
>>
>>728926965
Depends on the price and aftermarket accessories.
The headstrap is basically just a mediocre film prop for filming stock marketing footage and hand tracking is definitely a nice to have feature when using a variety of controllers.
It'd also be good if they got off their high horse and just fucking published open standards for releasing DIY controllers that work with the tracking ecosystem, so we can finally get out of this stasis bubble of safe Rift CV1 knockoffs or controllers that need you to attach an entire separate tracker to yourself and which consequently get no attention outside of VRchat autism.
>>728927627
Quest 3 doesn't run Linux, so it's strictly worse and very annoying to use if you just want something to work with PC.
>>728927859
There's basically no reason to not have wireless streaming and as soon as you have wireless streaming you need some hardware for decoding that can then be used for standalone.
>>
>>728928379
>very annoying to use if you just want something to work with PC.
quest3 can play every vr game, even from the oculus rift CV1 days
>>
>>728926965
>600+ Burger Bucks
I'll wait until it's half price
>>
>>728929229
is Index half price yet?
>>
>>728927627
This. Quest 3 probably cost ony half as much and has a bigger game library.
>>
>>728929431
Nope, and it never will be.

Yep. I went from Reverb G2, to PSVR 2, and now planning on getting the Frame. Sad to lose OLED, but I hear pancake lenses are amazing. Plus the thing looks tiny compared to the other 2 headsets. The PSVR 2 was a significantly less pain in the ass to deal with compared to the G2 in terms of getting a gaming session started, and I expect the Frame to be even easier. Honestly kind of happy the controllers take batteries. I bought a solid set of rechargeables for the G2. Painful purchase back then, but I'm happy I'll get to regularly put them to use again. Planning on chilling in bed playing flat screen games as well, so being able to hot swap works out well. I hope to god the speakers are good. Apparently the mic is comparable to the Index. Fortunately, the wireless/streaming nature of it will also allow me to also use it with my laptop; so I'm pretty excited to go over to my brother's place and letting my nieces try out the Frame. They've never tried VR so I'm sure they'll have a blast

If it's 600 I might get it, if it's 700 I'll consider it, if it's anything higher and I wont. I absolutely believe it's going to be in the 800-900 range
>>
Buying it just because it's an actual Linux system
>>
>>728926965
>costs $1000
what the fuck were they thinking?
>>
>>728929476
Frame will be able to emulate those Quest games.
>>
>>728929756
meta quest emulation isn't a thing
>>
>>728927627
I think they started requiring (((account verification))).
>>
>>728930072
only if your dumb enough to let your kid use the device under your account
>>
>>728927627
fpbp. it doesn't get much better than subsidized hardware
>>
>>728929705
we don't know the price yet
but yes, most likely be in the $800 - $1200 range
>>
>>728927627
Quest 3 software is hot garbage. Both the meta horizon phone app and meta link PC app are dogshit. I'd pay more for software that actually works.
>>
>>728929843
dude they're just android APKs
>>
>>728930930
that require Oculus SDK
>>
So I learned like half an hour ago that meta quests can be used with your PC. I thought being standalone meant they were locked down by Zuckerberg, that's what everyone was saying at one point I swear.
I had no clue you could just use them with your PC instead.

I didn't have a PC to take advantage of it till now but since I do now I did some deeper digging and found this out. I guess it makes sense, I always felt like meta was recommended too much for being a walled garden, that's a pretty big drawback. But if it's not then I mean it doesn't really have any drawbacks.
>>
>>728931907
Valve is already working on Android emulation.
>>
>>728932110
They can, but the official meta link app is broken dogshit so you're best off using either steam link or virtual desktop.
>>
>>728926965
if the gabe cube can run simsloppa like dcs and ac rally then i might
>>
>>728930930
yes but they have some additional proprietary bullshit so they can't be emulated
>>
>>728932195
Android emulation has nothing to do with Oculus SDK
>>
>>728926965
>inside out shit-tracking
no thanks
>>
>>728926965
probably not since all i want is a pdd in the smallest form factor possible, the steam frame is still a way too bulky headset with a strap, ar/xr/whatever retarded niggers call them glasses exist and they're far better pdds for what i would be using them for
vr is a faggot meme
>>
>>728932110
Here's how you use them. You connect to your LAN via wifi, you start the streaming software from the headset and then bam you see your computer desktop and boot your games there.
>>
>>728926965
Yeah, looks good and I'll finally taking the plunge as long as it's not obscenely expensive. It sounds like it'll be a bit cheaper than the Index, so that's good enough for me.
>>
>>728932110
you can also it wired with your PC if you don't like the wireless connections
>>
To play what? Not exactly a thriving vr scene
>>
>>728934290
*can also use it
>>
>>728926965
I finally got around to getting sidequest installed on my quest3 so I should be able to keep squeezing more out of that for a while yet, maybe when steam frame gets its first revision, assuming AI hardware price hikes don't get in the way
>>
>>728927859
I thought the same as you but ended up getting the quest 3 instead of the index anyway because they don't sell the index here, I brought the lower storage space version because like you I thought I only cared about PCVR but I regret not paying the little extra for twice the drive space, I ended up using it standalone way more than expected, although PCVR was still the majority of my time
>>
>>728926965
Yeah
>>
>>728926965
Yeah if I can. Sick of the Quest 3.
>>
I'll get one if it's 600€ or under. Otherwise I'll continue to not give a hot shit about VR for the foreseeable future.
Every other headset has some giant red flag to it.

I'm assuming most of the reason people do not want to adopt VR is because the headsets are made by the biggest pieces of shit on the planet.
>>
Maybe in five years when I can get a used one for $100.
>>
>>728929107
Just as a VR peripheral headset it is good, but the locked down Android spin means that I can't use it to interact with headless PCs as just another Linux system and I can't configure it how I want.
>>
I wish Valve wasn't so tight lipped with details. I'm sure people would be more confident about picking up some VR titles during this sale if they knew the price and release date of the headset
>>
>>728938975
Virtually impossible to find VR games to buy on the Steam Store when all the recommended shit is Alyx and racing games.
They need to revamp the algorithm completely when you have a vr headset. All marketing for games is made on youtube short and tiktok ffs. It's pathetic.
>>
dev kits got sent out recently so hopefully it actually results in some good vr games getting made this year. i want this thing to do well so the mp vr games i play stop dying in a week
