Watched all of the original three movies and the prequels, but that's the extent of my Star Wars knowledge and I also didn't really absorb a lot of the world lore long term so I have no idea what the fuck a lot of common phrases mean (I see people saying this isn't podracing because its repulsecraft or something? Also I have no idea what the "old republic" is though I know that's not related to this game).

But I like space settings and I LOVE anti-grav racing games, so I'm very interested in this. I'm assuming the fact I don't know lore shit will be irrelevant too since it's a racing game.

while the pod racer from 2000 was very easy, you could just use starter stock pod, never upgrade it and have chalenge as you climb campaign
