hidden gem or slop ?

the amount of effort that went into mapping out Akihabara and the stores is astounding, the combat is a little repetitive at times but the world is so true to life and the characters are pretty compelling.
I'm not sure how accurate it is now but I played the game back in 2014 after I went to japan and it was great for me.
>>
I only played a little bit of the PS3 version but the fact the town is separated into tiny chunks surrounded by a gorillion loading screens pissed me off to no fucking end. A shame because it's dangerously soulful, I knew I was in for a good time the second I saw the Kodomo no Jikan ads.
>>
>>728932460
they censored the fucking game 10 years later
>>
>>728932660
how?
that's really fucking lame to hear
>>
Deceptively good. Combat is not complex but it is mindless fun
>>
I played quite a bit of the PS3 version, but every single time I've tried it on other platforms, not only does it look hideous in comparison, but it made me wonder how I put up with the "gameplay".
>>
Every game should have a character designed by Akio Watanabe.
>>
There's nothing more soulful than walking past a massive monitor in akihabara and hearing the sounds of Mosaic.wav playing in the background.
>>728933529
Based and true
>>
>>728933529
Higurashi Gou being so fucking shit ruined his art forever for me. It's like having your favorite cartoon playing in the background as your parents tell you they'll divorce.
>>
>>728932460
It's literally Way of the Samurai without the story structure that made WotS interesting and slightly downgraded combat mechanics.

Imagine how big it could have been if it was an upgrade from WotS instead.
>>
you character can unlock crossdressing and female mannerisms.
>>
>>728932660
>>728932660
explain anon, which is the versioon worth buying?
>>
>>728932696
>>728934130
nta but they censored all lines referring to traps/crossdressers because they thought it would offend trannies.
this is for a game on steam that had no updates for years, btw.
>>
decent fetish material. Bad game.
Also, kind of too hard to play one handed, which is a real issue with things like this.
>>
>>728934547
so the console physical games are fine?
>>
>>728934547
they stealth dropped a patch a decade later that did nothing but censor the game, its insane. i think the newer console ports came pre-censored too
>>
>>728934620
it's better to play on console anyway, steam version has terrible resolution setting, it's basically playing on emulator
>>
>>728934620
The older copies are, like the vita version. or you can just pirate a version of the steam port prior to the update
>>
>>728934547
that's not the most egregious of censorship but it is pretty stupid of them, glad I finished the game years ago at the very least
>>
>>728933921
god I wish it did the story/playthrough structure of WOTS with dozens of endings and choices that can make your playthrough an absolute chaos
Still crazy to me that in WOTS you can just murder a story important character literally in the first scene and then the story goes on without him
>>
>>728932460
Very low budget and the mechanics are quite janky with lots of heavy snapping in combat. If you can look past that it's mostly VN segments mixed in with a lot of references you'd like if you're deep in the sauce of Japanese culture, particularly the Tokusatsu and anime sides.

The PSP game (Hellbound and Debriefed) is supposedly even more budget and janky but solid. Haven't played that yet but I do own it.
Akiba's Beat is a Tales of clone with a shoestring budget. It is nothing like the PSP or Vita games. If you think Tales of games are already low budget then get ready for Akiba's Beat. It's pretty much "What if Tales of met Persona but we had $5 to work with?"
>>
>>728934696
nice always a good excuse to use the vita
>>
>>728932460
I only played this for very little but I remember being annoyed at
>Loading screen fucking everywhere
>Extremely weeb game, most hilariously your little sister who obviously call you onii chan all the time but the game translates it to "Bro!" So she just sounds like a midget version of Hulk Hogan
>>728932606
Yeah this, glad I'm not the only one thinking that
>>
>>728932460
It's a fun game. I played the Vita version.
>>
>>728932460
hidden slop
>>
>>728934620
Keep in mind that if you play the Vita or PS4 (Non-DLC) versions you miss out on best girl's route and it also adds some other content outside of her route.
>>
>>728935498
Now you got me, I do collect vidya si the switch ver is complete with the dlc then? what exclatly is the censored part about? if its about crossdressers and trannis i dont really care, but do they censor the lewd?
>>
>>728932460
hidden gem slop
>>
>>728936009
Switch is the updated version, PS4 has to buy the DLC digitally since there was no reprint, PC has to buy the DLC, and Vita didn't get the DLC at all.
>what exclatly is the censored part about?
https://varishangout.com/index.php?threads/akibas-trip-dlc-update-censors-trap-ten-years-after-release.2193/
In-game Twitter has an NPC calling NPC a "trap". "Modern sensibilities" now considers "trap" a slur so they changed it. That's seemingly it. I didn't even realize it did this.
In exchange for that censorship you get better graphics, Kati's route, and new outfits.
>>
>>728932460
It's incredibly fun to get the hang of combat and make your friends wear silly outfits. The story I'd incredibly silly too but it plays it straight so it's good.
>>728934547
Did no one uncensor what was removed like a patch or mod?
>>
>>728932460
It's great if you like and know some of the stuff related to pre-2011 Akihabara. It's basically one big "I know that thing" video game, full of obscure weeb references. The game is now a time capsule since the city graphics are actual photos of Akiba taken in 2011 for its textures, and it includes all the details, minus them swapping letters in licensed logos like Dell becomes Deel etc.
As a video game, it's a bit of a shitty beat em up because Vita didn't have triggers, so you have to hold down buttons to perform certain grab moves. In another sense, it's kind of a collectathon since you can strip anyone and collect their clothing + weapons.
Story is shit, it's way worse than the first game, which was kind of like WoTS where you can choose your faction and get like 10 different ending. In 2, you just pick the girl you want to fuck and the route otherwise is identical outside of 1 girl (where you get 1 unique mission only lel).
As for game versions and their playability:
PS3>Vita>PS4>PC>>>DC(especially Switch).
Basically, the later versions (PS4/PC) have tons of bugs, fake interpolated 60fps (going over 30 breaks physics and introduces more bugs than it's worth), fucked up lighting and Director's Cut version fucked it up even more + censored shit + removed licensed content for copy pasted adds of Akiba's Trip HD all over the city.
>>
>>728932460
It's only great once you unlock crossdressing
>>
>>728936374
>going over 30 breaks physics and introduces more bugs than it's worth
I platinumed it, what bugs? I never noticed anything weird outside of enemies jerking around in their clothes for like two frames when you strip them and I thought that was just because it was a low budget game.
>>
>>728936293
I'll just get a second hand ver switch ver then
>>
>>728936104
this but unironically
>>
>>728936512
It's the same bugs as Yakuza games, broken AI, broken pathfinding. Your companions won't do certain interactions in the game. Most simple thing to notice is your jump distance and height. Unlocked framerate you just hop like a fucking gremlin vs. PS3 version you do proper high jumps.
Basically all physics and interactions are fucked, so you can barely even juggle enemies compared to Vita/PS3.
>>
>>728936750
Oh and how I forgot about the stripping button mash shit, it's are pretty much impossible if you play like I tried on 165hz. It's just annoying to play the game when not locked to 30fps.
>>
>>728936750
>>728936904
Does it do this at 60 or past 60? Because I honestly can't remember any of these being issues at the PS4's 60.
>>
>>728936967
Past 30. So all the QTEs require 2x of the presses on 60, the jumps are half shorter etc.
It's not really some undocumendted bug, people were begging the dev on forums to fix the fucked Steam release framerate since it came out.
