Is Soma really one of the best horror games ever made?
>>
>>728939090
Yes but stalkers sucked
>>
>>728939090
Story-wise ? I'd say it's up there but it depends.
Gameplay ? Hell no, not even close.
>>
>>728939218
Gameplay wise which one is the best?
>>
>>728939090
>gameplay
barebones walking sim
>story
mediocre
>visuals
Ok I guess. The black mud itself is incredibly unimaginative, and the underwater bases themselves are unremarkable but get the job done exploration-wise. Exploring the deepsea is kino, probably the only good part of this game.
>>
Its not even sacy or fun to play. People who think its some masterpiece probably think The Last of Us is pinacle of gaming because they like movies and the game is like a movie.

Frictional ? Amnesia The Bunker, easily.

In general, my modern favourite is Alien Isolation. For the classic ones, instead, I have a soft spot for RE2.
>>
>you can't beat the monsters
>you can't kill or attack monsters
I have 2010s horror games fatigue.
>>
idk why you guys can't consider a game good simply because it's a walking sim. Not everything needs to be Resident Evil
>>
It's one of the most midwitcore games ever made.
>>
>>728939946
tell, why is it good then? I know you can't
>>
>>728940109
story, atmosphere, world design, monster design, sound design, thought inducing, spooky
>>
>>728939946
There's so little gameplay you could make a visual novel out of the story without losing anything.
>>
>>728939090
I'm going to replay this game again soon. The atmosphere in this game was so damn good, and the story was pretty interesting, even though I usually don't care much for story in games.
>>
>>728940772
crazy thing to say, but ok
>>
>>728940575
5/10 bait
>>
>>728939090
No. Babbys first 2deep4u slop where the ai lady beats Simon over the head with a fat "you aren't going to eden, a copy of you is" over and over and he still doesn't get it until the end when he throws a tantrum.
>>
>>728939090
It was ok, the underwater atmosphere carried.
>>
>>728941679
>he still doesn't get it
Pretty sure he's been on denial during the entire game
>>
>>728939090
I just arrived at Tau and I see a random ass guy walking around and he tries to kill me. I think he reacts to both sound and vision
>>
The game really peaks the abyss
>>
>>728939218
The ending is shit and it's not really horror.
>>
>>728939090
The only horror games that are actual horror are the original silent hill and penumbra. Most games are just action jumpscare.
>>
Exploring PATHOS is just really fun. A game set right before/during the comet impact would be cool, roaming the stations and gathering supplies, fighting off the WAU trying to kill you. That's be kino.
>>
>>728939090
sci-fi horror games are evil because they're always about concepts and technology that are super interesting and cool but then the gmaeplay is just some fuckass walk and hide simulator that uses it all as just a backdrop
SOMA at least has an engaging enough plot, but they also teased the game with a bunch of shit that made it seem like it was some SCP-style project and that's just kinda boring in comparison
Oh and I'm still not over Routine either, 14 years for that shit and I'm still just left wishing I could play with the tech in some kind of sandbox game
>>
>>728939090
The horror id decent. The story is superb. Amnesia the Bunker is where the real horror's at.

Just imagine this stuff actually happening to you.
You won't go about and be a hero obviously.
IRL you would wander the halls very slowly being afraid out of your mind - not knowing what is going on or what to expect at all while completely dissociated.

I've had dreams like that. We found a big mothership in space that was lost for a few years. Being as big as it was it was a total mystery what the fuck happened to it. Inside, it was dead quiet. There was absolutely no one. We came to this hangar thing where smaller space planes were stored for quick recons. Me and my team mate where all the way high up on this iron walk way when I entered a room and he stayed on the walk way a few meters behind.

As I entered and checked around a bit I heard him nonchalantly say
>oh no way, something's moving...
Suddenly I hear this crazy loud growl of something that was clearly very violent and strong. I froze. I heard him die lmao. I was so scared. It was so real. I just KNEW I couldn't do anything. That thing's movement just BOOMED throughout the area. The air shifted. No idea what it was either. But that dude was gone.

I imagine it being something like that.
