I am slowly starting to get the hang out of this game. I just cleared a mansion with my peasant flail. Sadly only found 1 suit of chainmail (Poor fit) and a fake mace, but I intend to use the mansion as my base for now until I find somewhere better. I also found a generator, but I still haven't fully figured out electricity in this game.Does anyone here have experience the Isolation Protocol and Aftershock Exoplanet mods? They look pretty fun.
>>728939270>Summer Patchouli Knowledge holding a hoe
>>728939848It's a wooden flail.I haven't found an anvil yet for serious heavy duty weapons but it actually works quite well at crushing zombies.
>>728939270Isolation Protocol is OK, good if you're looking for more combat and to understand megalabs. Play Sky Islands once you're tired of the base game, it really revvs the engine. Also, consider Mind over Matter, really like the stuff it adds to the game.
>>728941709>Isolation Protocol is OK, good if you're looking for more combat and to understand megalabs.I wonder if I should play vanilla until I find my first megalab, so the mod won't spoil them to me.>Play Sky Islands once you're tired of the base game, it really revvs the engine. Idk, I feel like Aftershock Exoplanet looks more interesting as a full conversion. I wanna check it out but probably won't stick with it for more than 10 hours.
I really miss the Killer Drive trait. It just gave my character so much more personality. At least it is still there in in Cataclysm Bright Nights.
>>728939270Lol OP made himself in game except irl he's just an ugly man looking tranny with pink hair lel
>>728939270Electricity is easier to spin up than you think. It's just placing appliances in the construction menu and hooking them up with extension cables or exposing the wiring in the walls. You have inputs like solar panels feeding into a placed battery then appliances feeding off a grid. Some good guides on YouTube for it, it's more intuitive than it seems.
>>728939270I'm considering getting back to it, but the game either kills you in some bullshit way or you have it too easy.
>>728945749>but the game either kills you in some bullshit way or you have it too easy.In this game you need to be extremely careful. But yeah, doing a challenge start like burning building or large building without a good equipment loadout is suicide.
>>728946073>In this game you need to be extremely careful. That's when raiding towns gets boring because you can simply kite zombies if you have half-decent gear, so the only way to die are either hard scenarios or bullshit encounters.
>>728946270>so the only way to die are either hard scenarios or bullshit encounters.Zombie hulks and juggernauts, mutated zombie animals, Mi-Gos, Giant insects, Mutants, Raiders in full military gear, Abominations from hell, etc.The basic zombies are easy once you git gud but there is a lot that can kill you in this game.
>>728947279>Mi-Gos, Giant insects, Mutants, Raiders in full military gear, Abominations from hellTend to be in places with little loot, at least as far my memory serves well.
>>728947576No, they just randomly mingle around in the overworld and get more as the game goes on.
>>728947653You mean the zombie variants or the other monsters as well? It didn't quite feel there was more of them over time.
>>728948123The zombies are certainly the most common and hulks, juggernauts and animals get reall powerful, but mutants also get more and stronger as the game goes on.
>>728948263Ah, could be the pacing issue, with player character getting stronger much faster than enemies do.Hmm... Maybe I could just lower the zombie amount, but buff their stats? Cities wouldn't be overcrowded so you could sneak into them, but encounters could be deadly...
>>728948498There is "No hope" which makesthe game much more difficult. But I do have to agree that they put too much of a focus on the zombies. The zombies should be the main focus for the first 2 weeks but afterwards, when you likely have a solid, self sufficient base set up, more aliens, mutants and hellish abominations should appear in the world in my opinion.
>>728949208Would make sense considering it's supposed to be a kitchen-sink setting and basic zombies are relatively easy to get rid of.
>>728939270I wish I could like this game since it is theoretically the perfect game for me.
>>728949340That's certainly a flaw. But at least the non-zombie stuff is still there even if it's rare. Caught a freaky floating eye hulled in blue flames that other day and ran like hell. That thing must still be lurking somewhere out there.>>728949341Why do you not?The controls are stupid at first but you get used to them in a few hours and you can always '?' to search specific controls.
>>728945417My character found a trans flag and a lesbian flag and burnt both of them in his fireplace. Total tranny death!!!
>>728939270has melee been reworked so you have more control over combat or is it still just dicerolls?
>>728957352Martial arts add some depth, but it's still just mostly the roguelike bump attack.Flails and polarms can attack from 2 squares away, allowing you to "kite" slow enemies like common zombies without getting hit. Fast weapons like knives and batons can also kite slow enemies but are much riskier and won't 100% avoid all damage.
>>728957625its unfortunate to hear melee hasn't been revamped yet. i was hoping for something similar to fallout where you target which body part to hit, and having defensive/offensive stances to suit the situation in need. that kind of complexity seems perfect for a game as this.
>>728958135>i was hoping for something similar to fallout where you target which body part to hit, and having defensive/offensive stances to suit the situation in need. that kind of complexity seems perfect for a game as this.Doesn't dwarf fortress adventure mode do this?
bump
I love CDDA but I can't get myself to play it anymore. Dunno if it's because being a turn based game makes it feel sluggish to play, or the repetiveness of it all or simply cause the world feels lonely and there's not much to be done (that I haven't already done). Sure I could sink 50 hours into a save, but I much prefer playing rimworld where I can go do stuff on the side instead of being there at all times to explore the world map.
>>728940508This looks like something that would be extremely easy to hurt yourself with by accident
>>728965583thats the idea, peasants learn through pain
>>728965583It's long enough so you cannot hit yourself. It's a real historic weapon most famously used by the hussites.
>>728966330its exist AND poor people had access to them. i'm 100% someone brained themself with it
>>728966491Maybe some dumb idiot once swung one around in reckless abandon and whacked himself in the skull with it and died, but generally it's a powerful real deal weapon of war in the hands of the skilled.
>>728939270Is Bright Nights still the preferred fork? or have they've fallen to lolcow drama as well?
>>728945749Almost all of my deaths are because I opened a door and there was an LMG automated turret that instantly shredded my entire character in a single turn.
