in ME1 i used garrus and wrex the entire playthrough
in ME2 i switched it up a bit but usually had garrus on my squad and left the other slot for any relevant party member
in ME3 i did something similar. mostly stuck with garrus and liara

I took Ashley and Kaidan along whenever possible on my most recent playthrough of 1. Ashley was occasionally amusing, while Kaidan seemingly had nothing of interest to say about almost anything.
I enjoy Zaeed.
