I heard a lot of good things, what is the /v/ consensus?
worse than 2 and 3
Great game with issues. I beat it 11 times so far because I'm a Dandori autist but I understand the complaints even if a big one literally just got patched this week (auto lock on).
better than 3, not as good as 1 or 2didnt finish because yuzu had some bug with its lighting systemfun overall
3 > 4 > 2 > 1
Worse than 1 and 3, better than 2.
>>728947771this would be true if it were opposite day>>728947192its a MUCH better game now than on release. nintendo actually fixed it. hard mode and disabled lock on are necessary.
You can beat the game without using the dog, even in the 1 or 2 treasures where you are supposed to use him. You can go through the entire game without upgrading the dog.But the dog is OP broken good if you upgrade him and use him, trivialising using the ritual pikmin.Better than 3 by multitudes but not as good as 2. Very fun, visually awesome and very comfortable to play.
>>7289474621 isn't very good
>>728947889it's literally the best one, you have bad taste
>>728947192It's excellent. It's certainly a more complete feeling game than 3 was at launch, but 3's shortness makes it more replayable. I think you might find it a bit lacking if you don't try to platinum the dandori challenges, but going for them elevates the experience. Oatchi is a very overpowered mechanic but he's fortunately genuinely fun to use. The one convenience mechanic I'm not a fan of is the rewind feature, which I think defeats the purpose of the game. The auto lock should have been on a toggle, but it works well for most things. You actually have a lot of freedom to tailor how you play even considering dandori. A lot of people talked about rocks getting minimal use, but I actually had a lot of fun with them. The game is just densely packed, you constantly have these little novel challenges sewn into your experience, whereas in 3 they're just the side mode. >>728947304Holy fuck, they patched it? Finna replay rn, senpai
you can disregard people who hate 3. they're newfags who are trying too hard to fit in
>>728947192Shit. I just plyed the games back-to-back and this held my interest the least. It wasn't a fatigue thing, it's just that:The environments are just large playgrounds with a bunch of treasures and caves placed around. Most pikmin types are useless and Oatchi is overpowered. Fierce mode barely moved the needle (it only impacts enemies where charging with Oatchi was a strong tactic, and they kill pikmin quicker, the extra HP and 60-Pikmin limit are more annoying than anything). The story is just 'find this guy' over and over and retcons the entire series.Oatchi is OP even in Fierce (as long as you have the upgrades he can even kill Smoky Proggs and other difficult enemies on his own). The side missions from castaways are worthless since if you go for 100% you'll finish them anyway (that and they waste time having to talk with each of them)The only real good parts are the larger side missions (Olimar's story, Sage leaf) which pose some challenge.Night expeditions are a mixed bag difficulty wise, but overall are just basic-bitch tower defence.Lock-on is complete ass especially with multiple and moving targets. The default controls are rough (although this can be fixed).Overall this game is a massibe downgrade on 1-3 and I don't know if I want to play it every year like the others.>>728947304The manual lock isn't much better. Both suffer from some weird issue where the lock shifts when moving to another Pikmin type.
>>728947972lol it's literally the worst one moron
>>728947984>Holy fuck, they patched it? Finna replay rn, senpaiThey added a toggle to disable it awhile ago but the toggle was broken and only fixed this week.
>>728947972I mean Olimar is king and the atmosphere is unmatched but gameplay is jank enough that some autist rebuilt the game in Pikmin 2 just to fix the jank. Pikmin squared.
>>728948282>It wasn't a fatigue thingit very likely is though, should have started with 4, it's chronologically first and has good quality of life
>>728948436>Pikmin squaredpikmin 1 but good
>>728948480I did that last year and I wasn't much more impressed with the game (updates withstanding). This year I did them in spells over a few months so I wasn't tired of them once I finished 3, I could've played the shit out of the mission mode. 3 has plenty of QoL upgrades as is. In fact, I just remembered another complaint about 4:The Pikmin AI is worse. They oftenwon't do anything if you throw them at treasures already at the required carrying capacity, they often go after the wrong thing when there's multiple items nearby (even when an item is locked on) and they're way too happy to go after enemies and hazards when left idle.
>>728948535Haven't played it, but Pikmin 1 is one of my favorite games, and I played it after the much more streamlined third game. It's one of my most replayed games. I've never found anything about it particularly ruinous, in fact I appreciate its willingness to deliberately tee itself up for some frustrations
>>728947192All three other Pikmin games are better.
>>728949047You really should not for the QOL, but for the second adventure you unlock after you beat it. It's great except for 1 custom boss.
>>728949534NTA but a friend and I did Pikmin 1 squared then moved on to Pikmin 2. We did consider going back for extra mode after 2 already so I guess we'll have to make sure to do it.
>>728947192It's good and it has a ton of content. Definitely play it. 3 Feels like a more integrated package, but 4 is also a good time too.
4 is the best in the series no cap
>>7289542364 is the best from a content perspective, they included basically everything. But it really lacks polish and has 0 difficulty whatsoever compared to 1 and 2, so those two are still worth playing. 3 is pointless now however, 4 beats it in every way
OP here, I just got back from the store, I bought Pikmin 4. Thanks for discussing the game with me. I will post a thread in the future to talk about my experiences with the game.
>>728947192On normal difficulty, combat is a joke. enemies are more just harmless dandori obstacles. it works in mission mode when dandori is the point, but harms the story gameplay because enemies are supposed to be threatening and hostile. Pikmin 4's difficulty is all about dandori, not combat, which is why it doesn't appeal to everyone and why oatchi's bustedness is so divisive. On ultra spicy difficulty, combat is actually kind of brutal in some encounters. enemies are all tanky and their increased kill caps ensure that your squad is not coming out unscathed. Night expeditions on hard mode are some of the toughest combat the series has ever had, in my opinion. Had to break my personal handicap of not using glow pikmin's spirit bomb and oatchi's charge. trust me, you'll need every resource available to you but it'll be really satisfying when you pull it offLoad times and cutscenes still suck dick tho
>>728947192At launch>Great game, weakest of the 4 pikmin titlesWith updates>ultra spicy difficulty makes the game have a proper difficulty curve and nerfs oatchi>makes Dandori less awful in ultra spicy since the CPUs get fucked by the enemies>auto lock is now optional for people who get irritated by itI never had issue with the autolock, if anything it made the game a lot easier than it should have for me. I need to do a 100% ultra spicy playtrhough, I think thats going to be next on my list to replay. From everything ive seen game looks better than 3 now, but I still prefer 1 and 2.
>>7289471922 > 1 >> 3 >>> 4
>>728956181>>728957570>>728957859I was under the impression that it had a free Switch 2 update. So they're totally making a new DLC and releasing a Switch 2 edition aren't they?
>>728958317Fierce mode was added to make enemies actually put up a fight. The only issue with it is it caps you at 60 Pikmin so gotta do it on NG+ to reduce tedium was material farming will be exhausting with only 60.
>>728947192who the fuck would say good things about that piece of shit?4 is aggressively awful, doubly so if you've played the previous games1 = 2 > 3 >>>>>>>>>>>> 4
>>728947192I like 1 the most
>>728958693why do you exaggerate how bad Metroid Prime is
Better than 2 and 3. On par with 1, but they are good for different reasons.
>>728955640Objectively correct
3 >= 1 > 4 > 24 fixes a lot of what I dislike about 2 but introduces some terminally retarded design decisions in exchange, particularly the three pikmin type limit and flarlics. Whenever I want to replay it, I just stick with Olimar's Shipwreck Tale or the Piklopedia.
>>728962019NG+ really should have removed the type limit and let you keep Flarlic. Whites and Flying would have been so useful as supplementary Pikmin.
