Especially one that runs on Linux where most pc games run on Windows? I get that it is more portable than a normal computer but you could just get a steam deck or some other handheld gaming pc and just get a dock for that and you can still play it on your big tv if you wanted? I know that the steam machine is more powerful than the deck, but you can also connect your normal computer to your television fairly easy. I also don't understand Linux for gaming, granted it's not as bad as it used to be a while ago, but not every game runs on Linux but it does on Windows. Why should someone get a mini pc over a normal gaming computer? Are some mini pc's as powerful as normal gaming pc's?
>>
easier to use for consolefags that are too scared to buy a real computer
>>

If they are scared of building a computer why don't they buy one of those pre built ones?

Valve did incredible games decades ago but they're completely out of touch with hardware and every single hardware they've released has been a failure
They made the steam machine more expensive than normal computers just for the gimmick of making it small which doesn't even give as much portability as a laptop, so you're stuck with a desktop pc that is more expensive and harder to upgrade
>>
I wanna buy one just for our occasional LANs

>linux computer
>esier to use
normies aren't going to jump through hoops and loops using linux
specially when the most popular games like fortnite and league of legends simply don't run on linux
>>
>>728955117
I'm coworkers with console normies and PCs are too complicated, it literally is just that. They don't want to "tinker" with anything, they want playing video games to be as simple as possible.
With that said, if the Steam Machine isn't simple enough to use for the average console retard it will filter them hard.
>>
>>728955548
I forgot that certain games don't run on Linux either. Genshin Impact is another popular game that won't run on Linux
>>
>>728955994
and proton isn't the miracle they advertise
many games play with issues, then linux shills blame you for not spending hours troubleshooting it
>>
>>728954946
I will get to play all the shovelware I bought in Steam sales on my TV. I doubt it will be a seamless experience with Loonix though. Consoles are totally retard proof which is why are they so popular
>>
>>728955117
Because they don't have a big brand name closely associated with the market niche they're buying it for. This really, really, really matters to the Japanese.
>>
>>728955707
Should be alright if it’s anything like the deck. No real reason unless you really want to try mods and piracy though. Or if they somehow pulled off an unbeatable price

You're about to find out hard next year and beyond why mini gaming PCs are needed now.
>>
I have 2. One specifically advertised as being for gaming. It runs every game I could want, it's small, it's quiet, and can run any OS imagineable. If you're not building your own mega tower, you might as well get a mini.

>What is the point in buying a mini gaming pc?
Having a PC that is small. I could put a Steam Machine on the shelf under my TV but I can't do that with my desktop PC, so in theory, I have a use case for it. If you don't, then don't buy it.
>Especially one that runs on Linux where most pc games run on Windows?
Some people think Linux is neat, so the fact that it runs Linux and will force more developers to care about Linux is a selling point. Yes, I know: "But the normies! Won't someone please think of the normies?!" Well from their point of view, it's a console, and a console not running every PC game isn't some mind-breaking phenomenon. It's a console that runs a subset of the Steam games they already bought.
>I get that it is more portable than a normal computer but you could just get a steam deck or some other handheld gaming pc and just get a dock for that and you can still play it on your big tv if you wanted? I know that the steam machine is more powerful than the deck,
Thanks for saving me time by answering your own questions.
>but you can also connect your normal computer to your television fairly easy.
Not as easily, for some, depending on the physical space constraints. Could I drag my PC over to the TV and have it taking up space next to the TV stand? Technically, yeah. Do I want to? No. But if you have plenty of space then do it.
>I also don't understand Linux for gaming, granted it's not as bad as it used to be a while ago, but not every game runs on Linux but it does on Windows.
For Valve, it's about independence from Microsoft's increasingly enshittified ecosystem. For some users, the fact that it runs Linux is a selling point as previously stated, and for other users, it's a trade-off. Either it runs your favorite games well enough, or it doesn't. For what it's worth, Steam Deck has been successful enough for Valve to release another device.
>Why should someone get a mini pc over a normal gaming computer?
Why are you asking again?

Easier to transport. I've had my apartment broken into and several desktops either stolen or broken. Now I've got a mini that I pack up and take with me whenever I have to be away for longer periods.
>inb4 don't live next to ni-
Sometimes there is no choice.

A laptops is easier to transport and can actually be used without setup
This thing is still a desktop computer you need to plug into a monitor, mouse and keyboard

Mini PCs are still more powerful and affordable to a gaming laptop at a comparable price. Also minis haveore options for customization and are easier to clean and repair.

>What is the point in buying a mini gaming pc?
mini PCs are sometimes kino. They're not and should not be your main workstation. But they're good enough, because they're cheap, tiny, lightweight, versatile, silent and don't take up a lot of space. Compared to a large PC tower anyway.
Perfect for offices and LAN-parties in the office.
>Linux where most pc games run on Windows
gaben was fed up and decided to make proton. runs pretty much almost any windows/steam game.
>Linux for gaming, granted it's not as bad as it used to be a while ago
Linux was never bad. Linux was great for decades. Gaming wasn't a priority. Some software solutions are not available on Linux. But pretty much every android smartphone is running linux in essence. a bit different, but still. Libraries use Linux. (Web)Servers use Linux.
>>
>>728957332
Consumer PC prices are about to skyrocket hard. a $700 Steam Machine is going to look pretty nice in comparison.
>>
>>728954946
I want to FUCK that box.
>>
>>728957685
>Libraries use Linux.
Sometimes I have the urge to visit my local library and see what kind of computer set-up they have, if any, but I'm too lazy. Is Linux really common in public libraries?
>>
>>728957904
assuming it won't be way more expensive
>>
>>728954946
I wanted a new pc, but I wanted a cute one.
>>
>>728958159
It's sold directly to the consumer and $700 is enough to break even. It's also using custom hardware not found anywhere else. Valve is also industry, not consumer.
>>
>>728955117
>"Oh wow the thing I bought finally came!"
>"Now I've just gotta set it up"
>"Wait, which one of these is the power cable? Why are there seven?"
>"Which of these holes do I put that chip in?"
>"Better look up a guide, I don't want to break anything"
Five hours and twenty youtube videos and three AI generated guides later
>"Huh it still doesn't work for some reason... I'll finish it some other afternoon when I get the energy"
>Hops back on the phone and laptop
>Technobox sits in the corner to fossilize and get covered with laundry over 3 years

Sometimes it's nice to have something you can plug in and it works
>>
>>728958304
but if everything is going down so smoothly why haven't they revealed the price yet? i wish i could hopemaxx but i'm too pessimistic
>>
>>728958671
They need to nail everything down first and then announce the $700 price tag. Everyone will bitch but then home consoles such as the Xbox Series and PS5 will also get steep price increases making the issue void.
