I've never played this. Original or remake?
>>728957498Original. The remake is devoid of soul.
>>728957498Remake. The game is very slow going in general, the original is just even more so. At least the remake has the real time shit for the inconsequential fights.
>>728957498always the orivaginal
Both are good, the remake is almost a 1:1 deal except with the most modern engine and gameplay the series has, the story and dungeons are identical. They added a handful of new quests, I liked the first one but the others were cringe with bad writing that felt like they fell out of Cold Steel with everyone unironically yelling "looks like I'll have to use that..." "Not so fast!!!"Remake has some QoL too like missable books being marked on your map whenever they are available and side quests being highlighted, original you either follow a guide or talk to every single NPC in every accessible region of the map every time you advance a step of the main quest.Pick what you prefer the look of, basically. Just be urself.
>>728957756>The game is very slow going in generalIn what way?>>728957868How important or good are the side quests? I'm the type of person who just does the main story.
This was on sale and I almost bought it, looks pretty good, is it?
>>728957498The remake is the best game of the year.
>>728958048>How important or good are the side quests? I'm the type of person who just does the main story. It's all worldbuilding, it's a big appeal of this series, almost all of the named NPCs you see wandering around town have their own little arcs that you can check in on as you progress through the game, sometimes it goes on across chapters, or games, or entire arcs, or multiple arcs in the case of Anton. Some people will comment on developing situations and you can find tiny little lore bits or hints at future plot points just by talking to random people who might know something you don't yet.All of the side quests have meaningful dialogue in this regard, none of them exist for no reason, they're all trying to expand the world in one direction or another.
>>728958048There's not a lot of pressure or urgency to anything, developments in the story take a long time to get going, you'll be doing a lot of random battles as you go from place to place. The remake also has a fast travel system to go to places you've already been, which I don't remember if the original had. Remake also lets you deal with typical easy random encounters in real time rather than going to turn-based for every one if you don't feel like it. Also on the note of side-quests, you really ought to do all of them. You get some good rewards for it by raising your Bracer score and they'll help level you up. The side quests are where the game can certainly kinda drag though.
>>728957498The original English localization took many unnecessary liberties, but this one changed a lot of suggestive lines to girl-power ones directly at the JAP source for reasons that can't be understood. Nobody has made a complete list of these script changes in the original Japanese changes, afaik. Either way, the asking price is terrible. These games are worth $30 at best. Just pirate the remake and buy it if and when it gets discounted to a reasonable price, if you still feel like it after.
>>728958817>The remake also has a fast travel system to go to places you've already been, which I don't remember if the original hadDang, I may go for the original then. I hate fast travel.
The remake of SC gave Estelle safety shorts. Falcom has fallen.
>>728958817Nope, there was no fast travel in the original, you had to run everywhere, back and forth for some quests. You get Haze at some point that lets you avoid random battles but not for a long time.
>>728957498Trails of Subhumans
>>728958918Cringe, indeed, but at least modders will fix it on day 1.
>>728958903It's certainly understandable, but in all honesty it doesn't take that long to get anywhere so it's not all that necessary. Plus running in the remake gives you more time to look at Estelle's fat bum.
>>728958903The PC version has a speed up button that you can use to get around or battle faster. Even the old version of the game has it.If you don't want any QoL you'll need to find a PSP copy.
>>728958918They sure made Anelace a cutie in the remakes huh
>>728959514No, the new design is a downgrade.
Both but the original kind of sucks with botched turbo and a way shittier translation.
>>728961114It's unfortunate because I feel like the old script would have made for a better dub, yet the new script which is far more accurate and literal sounds worse in English. It's objectively better if you use the Japanese voices like a reasonable weeb though.
