Cain's definition boils down to three core elements. The first is that the game contains "many basic rules on how the world works." The second is that "those rules interact with each other to create a large number of emergent systems.">Cain quickly defines emergent systems as "features that were not necessarily intended by the original designer, but result from the application of those basic rules." He also shouts out Maxis's Will Wright (The Sims, SimCity) as the "master" of these two rules.>Cain's third rule is that "the player, as well as everything else in the world" must adhere to all the basic rules from his first point. Like any genre, it's an ad hoc spectrum; the more your game embodies those qualities, the immsimmier your game is.Is this sound logic?

yeah I like emergent ludoI think to be immersive you also need to be able to self insert as a random dumbass at least to begin, rather than being an action hero. too many games are just moviegames these days
>>728959716You should probably get that checked out.
I respect Tim Cain. I really do. But immersive sim is not a real genre and he is not a serious person for even entertaining this subject. It was a marketing shtick by Warren Spector and it's just used at this point as "First Person RPG". Stop giving this term any oxygen.
so called "immersive sims" are just first person games where you can click on everything
yuh
>>728959473That sounds about right
Kind of. I'll say immersive sim-ness started out as a consequence of open ended rpg design in the later ultima games, and games that fall under the immersive sim genre just remove the rpg aspect. some RPGs retain imsim elements but it's pretty rare
>>728959557Then nobody would vote, or watch movies, or play games>>728960145I'm starting to accept that imsim is just a meme genre
>what tim thinksI don't give a shit.Saged and reported.
>>728959557Then why do you listen to Nick Fuentes?
>>728960145>it's just used at this point as "First Person RPG".what if theyre not first person?

>>728966897clasic Fallout
>>728965047>>Minecraft is an imsimYes.
>>728959473Why is he gay
>>728959473>Cain quickly defines emergent systems as "features that were not necessarily intended by the original designer, but result from the application of those basic rules."He could explain it much more simply I think. Because of how the world operates on rules, there's degrees of emergent phenomenon varying on player inputs.
