I thought you guys LOVE arena shooters. Why don't you play it now?
>>
they lost their chance in the spotlight
>>
>>728967256
Didn't they completely fuck the portals by making them opaque, so you can only walk through them but not shoot, at some point?
>>
>>728967256
I played it when it first launched and it sucked
>>
>>728968959
No, player portals are see-through and enemy portals are opaque, it always worked like that in both games.

>>728969035
The new version is a lot closer to 1 which is to say it's a lot better than the shitshow that was 2 at launch.
>>
>>728967256
I feel like competitive shooters as a genre has kinda died off to the point that only a couple can have a playable amount of people at any given time.
>>
>>728967256
Because
1) You gotta slog through bot matches when you start playing.
2) Most of the gamemodes use loadouts where you're disadvantaged if you haven't been grinding for guns and attachments. Not so important, but worth noting that you also lose out on XP if you don't queue for these, and due to how it's dished out and how the AFPS modes are consolidated, it costs way more to queue only-AFPS than it is to queue only-Modern, which I find a bit insulting.
Makes it hard to pull people in

That being said, you wanna play, I should be available in like, 30-40 minutes.

Splitgate's alright. Really like these guns.

>>728969451
Yeah, there's no saving competitive shooters.
Every one of these modern shooters are all locked down with rigid rules and tiny playercount modes of around 5v5. No sense of community, no mods to keep things fresh, no real loose chaos to keep things interesting. Everyone gets bored within a couple months at best no matter the kind of superficial content pipeline the devs have on their battle passes.
Add on cheating becoming big business 15+ years ago, a huge influx of third worlders, and it's all but guaranteed that at least 25% of any online shooter's playerbase is cheating to some degree, no matter the anti-cheat used.

It's literally a 1% bonus for each game mode you queue for which is nothing.
Also, the only guns that are particularly more powerful than any others are the ones you pick up on the maps and can't start with, and you also get gun exp in the modes that don't let you pick weapon loadouts (and thus attachments).
The attachments are largely inconsequential but it is annoying that the character passives and simple grenades are locked behind account levels. Also the stun grenade is absolutely fucking worthless, holy shit.
>>
>>728967256
I played the relaunch but I hate all the Zoomers Fortnite esports aesthetics and atmosphere.
>>
>>728970596
>It's literally a 1% bonus for each game mode you queue for which is nothing.
Which adds up to 10% XP that you're missing out on if you only want to do Classic Arena and Classic Takedown. I'll acquiesce to the fact that the bottom 4 mods are also Loadout Locked, but they're also Party Modes (kinda surprised that they labeled SWAT as such), so they're still not really a total factor to wanting to play more in AFPS style.

People riot and kill grandmas for 10% XP boosts in other games. That a non-insignificant chunk-a-change
>>
>>728970968
If you only want to play classic arena modes then the exp literally doesn't even matter because none of the exp unlocks can be used in those modes.

I've been playing it and loving it. That said- I do not blame a single person for giving up on the studio and not even bothering.
>Nuke first game cause updating it was too hard
>Flat out just abadon the core audience with the second game remaking it with as much "modern shooter" sensabilitites all the while still marketing and suckering old fans it's the arena shooter they wanted
>Second game flops miserably because they couldn't pick a lane for what audience they want
>Nuke it and go "haha guys, w-w-we were just testing the waters! P-please come back..."
I don't want this game to fail, it's easily the most fun PvP game I've played in a decade.
But the company is ran by mismanaged retards that didn't understand the appeal of what they had and burned too many bridges.

I want this game to go on. But if people think it and the faggots that made don't deserve to.. I geniunly can not blame them or offer counter-argument.

>Rapid Fire, BBurst, Laser improves each spec by as little as 4%

fucking opportunity costs
>>
they've muddied the waters too much at this point. what even is the history?
>splitgate 1
>then Splitgate: Subtitle.
>then Splitgate: Subtitle is quietly unlaunched
>now Splitgate 2
is that right? we have three games now?
>>
>>728980425
Two games, this is still 2, but the number was removed and got a subtitle.
>Splitgate 1
>Hey that did pretty well during the lockdowns, let's make it again but more modern
>Splitgate 2: a Hero Shooter
>oh shit they don't like that
>Launch 2: "Hero Shooter but we put helmets on and made factions with fixed abilities"
>shit they don't like that either go back
>Re-launching 2: "Arena Rehashing 1"

I do miss the Sabrask shield wall, though.

Personally for me I just found the teleporters weren't all that cool to use? It basically felt like playing Halo but there was a haphazardly made portal gun in the game. Like, it's not a bad game but it's very repetitive, like with the portals not doing a whole lot there isn't much dragging me to this game vs any other arena shooter I've played.

ARE WE GREAT YET FPSBROS
>>
>>728981984
Yeah, 2 originally tried to suppress the portal shenanigans from 1 with the way they laid out the surfaces, but it basically crippled portal use and reduced the game to Halo with Portals Sometimes. This relaunch brought it back to 1's style so now there are portal walls in very convenient spots that allow dudes to instantly teleport across the map via triple portals.

Not a fan of the *teleports behind you* tactic, it's really fucking aggravating due to how easy and effective it is. The TTK is so slow that you can take your sweet time to lay a portal on both sides of a guy, then rapidly step between them so you can keep shooting him in the ass. When both are doing it at the same time, it's fucking spastic nonsense.
>>
>>728969035
That's fair, a lot of people bounced off it early and never looked back. But honestly? The relaunch kinda cleaned up a lot of the jank. It actually feels like the gameplay from 1 is back in a big way-snappier movement, smarter portal placement, less of that trying-to-be-Cod-but-also-Halo identity crisis. Still got issues, but at least it's not a total mess anymore. Worth another shot, maybe.
>>
I do not like that things are locked behind progression so I'm getting raped by dudes who can just win by running away from our first interaction, using their health stim shot and then coming back around to kill me.
>>
>>728984385
Yeah, that's kind of my issue where that is really the only strategy you get with the portals? They kind of advertise it like this arena shooter game where you can do Portal 1/2 momentum and physic trick shots. When really, it's just like you said, Halo with Portals Sometimes.
>>
>>728984385
>The TTK is so slow that you can take your sweet time to lay a portal on both sides of a guy, then rapidly step between them so you can keep shooting him in the ass.
Are we playing the same game? The TTK here is so fast it's like I'm playing fucking ARMA.
>>
>>728986270
Probably not.
Depending on the weapon, the ideal close range TTK varies between 0.5 (SMGs, and burst rifles landing all headshots) to 1.25 (LMGs) seconds, and it'll take a lot longer to land the 12~ shots most automatics need to kill at a distance. It's mimicking the Halo style damage model, which is glacially slow compared to most other shooters.
Only Power Weapons can wipe you out faster than that, since most of them are one/two shot kill weapons.
>>
I actually kinda enjoyed it at launch but I saw the writing on the wall
Guess I can try it again but this thread is literally the first time hearing of the relaunch lol, that doesn't bode well
>>
>>728986976
>TTK varies between 0.5 (SMGs, and burst rifles landing all headshots) to 1.25 (LMGs) seconds
Everything in this game will already kill faster than that at those respective ranges unless you're missing. SMGs kill you within about half a magazine, shotguns take two shots (or one and a punch), carbines kill in 2 headshots or 4 body shots, even the backup burst pistol only takes 3 or 4 rounds if your shots are connecting. It sucks because all the free for all modes are just killing some dude who never saw you in half a second and then immediately getting killed by some other dude who never saw you right afterwards, before you can even put a portal down on the nearest wall, never mind run into it.

Did they axe the shitty BR mode? Can I just play TDM and nothing else?
I tire of the forever TF2 cuckshed
>>
>>728987701
What the fuck? SMGs, half a magazine?
No, it takes 12 shots up close with all three of them, which is only about 1/4 or 1/3 of their mags. 11 shots to kill with one headshot, 10 if you land at least eight headshots.
The Sprinter SMG is the fastest to kill of the three, uniquely firing its first six rounds at a higher ROF before slowing down. 0.5 seconds minimum needed for all bodyshots, 0.044 with headshots.

The carbines do not kill in two headshots. The Warden and Cadence need three headshots or four bodyshots. The Hyperline needs one more shot than those. They all need an extra bodyshot at long distance.
At their fastest, the Cadence kills in 0.7 seconds with all headshots.
>>
>>728967256
>re-re-launched
they fuck up the first release no care anymore
>>
>>728988587
Yeah that's great, now how does having sub-1 second kill times make sense with a game about using portals to outplay people? You get ambushed and you're dead before you can even tell where you're getting shot from, never mind trying to do anything in response. You may as well be playing Q3A railguns but with every weapon because the only thing that matters to how long someone lives is how good the aim of the person shooting at them is.
>>
I played Splitgate 1 and really enjoyed my time with it but once they shitcanned it, I felt at peace with saying goodbye. Nothing about SG2 ever made me want to return.
>>
Splitgate 1 survived for a good couple of years, even in smaller regions. They couldn't even recapture the appeal of the first game.

Oh well, I had my fun.
>>
>>728967256
looks too e-sporty to me.
>>
>>728967256
CEO should just give up, Splitgate 1 failed, Splitgate 2 failed, this game will obviously fail too.

The game is simply not appealing to the average normie, everyone is already grinding some live service slop or gacha'shit, they wont drop that to play fucking splitgate.
