Behold! The greatest anime crossover game in existence

>god tier roster
>god tier gameplay
>based around the greatest period from Shonen Jump

How do we tell Japan to go back to 2D fighter crossover games? The 3D ones suck ass.
>>
Game just had a ton of love and effort put into it.
>assemble a manga page from different panels to construct your loadout
>panels come (redrawn) from their actual manga and depict iconic moments
>characters can give bonuses and say quips to others if there's a connection or similarity when you make your loadout
>huge campaign
>surprisingly capable online for the DS
>fuckload of characters, assists, stages, and items
It's the closest a game has ever come to Smash Bros in terms of content, quality, and love for the source material.
The only problems are the dogshit balance and the online community in general.
>>
Faggots that used Sena 3 or Trunks 3 online will burn in hell.
>>
>>728969681
What I liked about this is that no one character was front and center. It was a proper ensemble.

Nowadays you have a game like this and Luffys ugly face would be plastered from and center with everyone else out of focus.

They didn't even TRY to make this game fun and enjoyable, then decided to take it out back and shoot it. Fuck scamco, they can't even make video toys right.

For me, it's was the principal of otokojuku Heihachi Edajima and Champion the Afro Luffy.

I don't get why all of these games need a gay story to reconcile why all my anime guys are fighting, just do some custom robo type shit where I'm a kid and MY FAVORITE ANIME GUY IS BETTER THAN YOUR FAVORITE ANIME GUY and they fight in some abstracted video game shit. I don't need Vegeta talking directly to the HunterXHunter guy in some plot dialogue shit
>>
>>728972009
These stories can't even reach the oh-so lofty heights of Subspace Emissary. It's insane how much resources and time they dedicate and waste with their COMPLETE lack of effort, talent and passion.

Wasn't this the last time Kinnikuman appeared in a Jump game? I think that's why I didn't bother with any of the later ones. Also the fact that the rosters were a fraction of the DS game. Also I fucking hate anime.
>>
>>728971637
>Only iconic character is Goku
>The other two were basically flavor of the month shit for weebs
>Shitty grim dark lighting and CG instead of reh colorful art that Shonen is known for

And they wonder why these games bombed.
>>
Where's Toriko
>>
Some crazy nigga has spent like the past 5-6 years making a Mugen Jump Force clone that closely mimicks this game's art style. I've been wanting to download it, but then I look at the 50gb size and I go back to playing something on Steam.

I had so many good memories with this game. the Japanese are fucking ruthless.

anyone remember the yu yu hakasho stage with the platform at the top right? you would always get some asshole hiei, bankai ichigo, or dio (hacker) or joe standing on the edge of the platform while everyone else fights. and if you happen to accidently hit them they would fuck you up. oh and prepared to get fucking mad with rage when that hiei repeatedly stabs your dead body, and if you were one of the weak little pacifists he'd kill himself and let you live. god damn I fucking miss it. would play this shit on the bus and with some people online too
>>
Great game but it has a sort of underwater floatiness that you have to get used to every time you come back to it.
>>
how did you play this game? It's only in japanese.
>>

I dunno, I thought it was so shit it was pretty obvious they started with the dumb campaign mode and worked backwards from there.
The entire loot system is based around character creation, like it thinks it's Xenoverse or something.

I quite literally and unironically asked my parents for a DS back in the day (and ordered a flashcart online with my own cash) to play this and ouendan.
It was worth it.
Back when you had to use slot 1 and slot 2 and patch the roms to play on the cart.
The good ol times.
>>
Coming back to this game after reading a bunch of series I was unfamiliar with when I was younger, like Kinnikuman and Otokojuku, completely recontextualized key character interactions in this game and references in this game and really helped the whole experience fall into place.
>>
>>728976798
Oh shit are characters from otokojuku here? Who? Haven't played in at least a decade.
>>
>>728976449
Imported it when I saw the preview in Nintendo Power and learned it wouldn't be coming to the west.
Learned the entire game through trial and error.

>>
>>728976479
Creating my own character was my favourite part, same with the moveset customisation stuff. That should be the core of anime license games I think, since endless retellings are mind numbingly boring and always going to be worse than the original. It made the One Punch Man game bearable and Xenoverse too.

Why both making so many sprites in JSS/JUS style if you're just gonna make it a regular arcade fighter? The whole reason they made those sprites so compact was to accommodate for vertical movement and level design.
>>
>>728969681
>god tier roster
>god tier gameplay
both of these are because it's a DS game with a comically tiny 256x192 resolution screen and pixel graphics. it's really easy to pad the roster when you can sprite out any given character in a day and it's easy to actually think about how all these characters play with all the extra time you have

every other jump crossover after this one had a similarly low budget, they just had to spend 80% of that budget on graphics and voice actor fees instead

IIRC all the sprites in this game were done by the artist behind Eyeshield 21, or better known for the redraw for One Punch Man today.
So while it was much easier working with such small sprites, it was just used as an excuse to make it all one guy's problem.
>>
What the fuck was that series with the skinny blond guy with the claw?
I feel like I've encountered the historical context for almost every other series in this game as I got more into manga and anime, but that one was always an oddity.

I assume you mean the box guy as the first conflict is the whole main plot in the anime? That might be more concise than what the manga has after that arc.. I can't imagine liking the anime myself. What I liked about the manga was how they used the panels to really show how weird Neuro was and added a lot of background jokes behind the main focus, the expressions and stuff were the highlight of the villain reveals too.

The problem of many games, anime and even manga nowadays is that the customers are such cultist dumbasses they will always buy any crap no matter how shitty the company creates the product, even if it's a colossal ultra rich one.
