Genuine thoughts on this mf?
I would have been content with its 480p appreciably better than GameCube graphics for a few more years.
The game that weren't wagglan were actually good, see MHTri
>>728972430Funny you should post this now. The other day I was just thinking about the Nintendo Wii.Mario Kart Wii was a game that, if you invited the over, you could all play and without any fuss or explaining what the game was. Everyone just had that game.I need a game now that’s like that. What’s the modern day equivalent? I have a PS5, Xbox Series X, and Switch 2. Budget is N/A.
>>728973091MK World?
I never had it when it was new, and I can't think of a single game that I regret not playing on it at the time. That whole console generation was basically trash, though, so whatever.
Moreover, I think the Wii is the single console that has the largest discrepancy between hardware sales and games that are still worth playing. For something that had 100 million units sold, one would think that it would have a diverse and robust library to match. I don't think it does.
>>728973091mk world. kirby air riders. mario party super stars or jamboree.
Having just got one again and it feels nice. I may even
>>728973091Are you stupid? Genuine question.>Uuuuuhm i-is there a game just like Mario Kart Wii but for Switch 2 when there has been a Mario Kart for each new Nintendo console in the past 20+ years?
>>728972430Based. Not "hardcore" or whatever but that whole debate was childish nonsense even back then. Motion controls were a filter. Some of its niche third party exclusives were great, the channel/UI systems had some really cool shit going for them, the Virtual Console ended up excellent, and of course some very solid first party titles like any other Nintendo console. I'd give it like an 8/10.
>>728972430Unironically had a bajillion games. Best console of its generation. Its attitude to "not pursue the latest and greatest" in tech was controversial and it's pretty asinine when you think about it, but they did strike gold in a way. When you think about how Sony and Microsoft both are pretty much dead nowadays because they can do anything but spin their wheels because what else do you do when you already maxxed out your tech in the PS4 generation, you can't help but wonder if Nintendo's attitude was the right one all along. After the 360 generation we've entered a point of diminished returns, where we can't really make our games any better no matter how complex or advanced the chips behind are.
>>728975936https://youtu.be/xUSsl0d7UFw?si=7BVRtKwP0m7eGUS7I'm not losing sleep over this ftr
>>728975936Motion controls were the right call. Sticks absolutely suck for aiming and it's better to aim with gyro. The IR pointer the Wii implemented was genius, and it was incredibly cheap and easy to implement.
>>728976135>>728976250At this point I feel confident in saying the Wii was the true winner of the 7th gen. And its not just because of the recurrinh opinion about 360 1st half and PS3 2nd half. But the Wii despite being a GC in areas still felt distinct. You could even play GC games and got ports of PS2 games.
>>728976578The Wii was quite literally two gamecubes duct taped together. When you enter Gamecube mode, it literally clocks itself down to a Gamecube and turns off all of the wii-specific bits so you get 1:1 hardware parity with a Gamecube.
>>728976578There was so much of a pissing contest between the 360 and PS3, and Wii couldn't care less about any of that. It won the gen, but that wasn't a fun discussion or acknowledgement so it just wasn't part of that discourse. Nothing of value was lost.
I thought it was cool. My grandma randomly took me to the electronics section and bought one for the family when she finished grocery shopping. I was so excited lolI had fun with it
>>728976805based Wholesome anon with Grandma
>>728972430The controller that plugged into the remove was better than the Gamecube controller, and honestly it's the only way I can stand to play Rogue Leader anymore. It's also a great Nintendo piracy machine. Has some fun party games, the best version of RE4 (inb4 motion controls: GC controller and Wii Classic controller is officially supported by the game retards, just have the self control not to cheat), and it has House of the Dead. I wish the virtual console had more classic arcade shooters.
>>728977050>removemeant remote
>>728972430Zoomies first console
>>728972430Great console made even greater by how easy it is to run homebrew and pirated games on.
>>728977182That's the PS2, statistically.
I like it alot. Super Mario Galaxy is probably still my favorite 3D Mario. I know they have modern releases of this but I can't imagine playing it on anything besides a Wii remove. I'm a big fan of arcade rail shooters, so the ports of House of the Dead 2, House of the Dead 3, Ghost Squad, and LA Machineguns and Gunblade NY in the "Arcade Hits Pack" saw lots of playtime. Didn't expect that last one to become a rare sought after game. But they also had more "long form" rail shooter games. Resident Evil had Darkside Chronicles and Umbrella Chronicles. I soifaced in real life when Operation Javier was mentioned in Resident Evil 4 Remake because only real Wii niggas know about this deep cut. Dead Space had Dead Space Extraction which is a super underrated game in the franchise that I think more people need to play. I thought waggling the Wii remove to cut off your hand was cool as shit (but I was also a teenager). And while it isn't a rail shooter as such Silent Hill had Shattered Memories which was a similar spooky point the light athon. I played the ports of this game and they really don't do it justice on PS2 and PSP. The atmosphere in this game on a real Wii is incredible. And then you had all the Jarpigs like Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, Pandora's Tower and the like and unique projects like No More Heroes 1 and 2, Madworld, and the incredible and addictive Sin and Punishment Star Successor. It's a very nice console I enjoyed and enjoy very much.
It was the last console worth owning, genuinely unique experience and I'm afraid the magic of owning one will never be replicated unless VR has a renaissance.
>>728976769And look where those 2 are now.
>>728980335PS3 still has a vaguely functional online store.
>>728972430I barely remember much from those days. But all I can really remember is that everybody wanted a Wii when it was still a new console. Like everyone was really excited to get a Wii. People don't get that excited about consoles anymore. Lol.
>>728980591The novelty of motion controls was there, it was launching with a new Zelda to use them, and the "Wii would like to play" ad campaign was legendarily efficient.
>>728974458It had a bunch of shovelware. Just not the good kind like the PS2 had
