It's obviously not a failure--it's like, what, the fastest selling console to date, right? Because the whole launch thru holiday strategy revolved around them being available? Anyway my kids are getting one on Christmas morning and I'm pretty excited to see Bananza and MK World (even though I am kind of leery of World for some reason) but I am already tired of how conservative they have been with it. They pushed the launch of the console back an entire calendar year and in the first holiday there are two really exciting games worth owning on it? I don't mean to disregard Prime 4 and Air Riders--in fact I think Air Riders looks really neat, but god damn if they aren't really taking things slowly. I thought for sure that the whole idea with the delay was to blow out the first year. Instead the momentum of the Switch 2 is predicated on what will certainly come later and the fact that the PS5 is fucking stale and will probably never have games and Xbox is dead. The biggest reason to own the Switch 2 is the promise of unannounced games to come. Doesn't feel awesome.

Even the best lower-profile games from that era like Mark of Kri or Marc Ecko's Getting Up or Def Jam Fight for NY, those games aren't even that good. You go back and play them for a few hours once and that's it. The N64 and the GameCube and the Dreamcast were CLEAR LOSERS in their time, but do you know why people like to back to them? Because it's easy to digest and understand a software library that is comprised of like a dozen or fewer really strong games. I do not think the console is a failure, but I have zero desire to play anything on it. It's just collecting dust. I was genuinely excited for Mario Kart, which is why I bought the console, but it ended up being kind of terrible. Pretty fun to play, honestly, but Nintendo did everything in their power to force the awful transition tracks for GP that were just straightaways. I hear they finally went back on it, but in the sense that they remade the tracks rather than let people just play the tracks they want. Didn't finish Bananza. It felt like shallow dopamine overdosing. The stage exploding, the music track changing constantly as you switch bananza forms, and OOH BANANA every fifteen seconds or so was just too much for me. I think I was in the gross fast food theme park level, or maybe a little after that, and I was just bored out of my mind. I played ZA for like three hours. Was really disillusioned by there being no variety in the city and no ride pokemon. I just have no reason to play the console and I'm disappointed by it.

At the very least Nintendo isn't charging $100 like Microsoft but Black Ops 7 are already $35 and that came out last month and you'll never see Nintendo doing a 50% sale a month after release.

Indie games are contributing to damaging gamers perception too, Silksong being $20 and even E33 being $50 are good examples of lower pricing harming the perception of more expensive games. The reality is that most of these modern AAA games are worse than $10 games from 10 years ago(and are barely different because the industry has stagnated so much). On top of that, the market has also been flooded with f2p games that aren't as low quality as they used to be so gamers have become ridiculously price sensitive.
