It feels to me that adding tons of story and character building is contra to the gameplay it provides. Children of morta also did this shit.

Absolutely. Roguelikes were built on speed, iteration, that quick reset loop that makes failure as fun as success. Now every other run triggers a 3-minute cutscene where Dad talks about how he’s proud of you for dying again. It kills the momentum. Children of Morta’s RPG soap opera pacing is the reason I dropped it like a hot rock. Let me mash start, swing my pixel axe, and die, not sit through lore dumps every time I want to try a new build.

yeah hades 1 was the same so they ramped it up for 2 and people (read: reddit) apparently love it...
I get why they'd include it, it's easy to skip everything like I did and just enjoy the gameplay
I literally don't even know who half the characters are supposed to be and I'm pretty much done with the game (best I could do was 12-16 ish fear anything more wasn't fun)
