>>

Went from le herobrine to ooooooh don't go into the caves bro or le spooky minecrap identity will run up to you and go "EEEEEEEEEEEEK" in your face bro also you can't kill it because it has like 9001 hp!!!
>>
damn dey be tryin anythin these days fr, shi is craaaazzzyyyy
>>

As someone who is genuinely terrified of deep water, I hate what the internet has turned this into. It's not a fear of "le ebin scary creatures underwater". It's a hatred of the water itself. It's so so vast and I feel so powerless in it. I can't see or move properly in water, so literally anything, even touching me is something unexpected and teriffying. Yes, the presence of living things in the water does amplify it, buts its not really the creatures themselves that are scary. Just the fact that I'm so powerless around them. I remember being a kid and having to close my eyes through an aquarium because I couldn't handle it
>>
>>728994981
Oh come on.
You can't tell me you don't feel a primal fear from this scene:
https://youtu.be/3BqeXjb3cao?t=168
>dropped in the middle of the ocean
>sinking into the blackness
>a huge creature emerging from the blackness
I'm cold sweating before I even hit the water.
>>
>>728995450
Nigger shut the fuck up, it's both the vastness AND what could be in it, unseen or not. You're going to absolutely shit yourself if you see some boat swallowing monstrosity coming up from the inky depths, don't give me this "it's not the creatures that are scary" retardation.
>>
>>728994981
Yes. Entirely shilled by babies who thought subnautica was scary.
>>
>>728995450
This lol
Being deep in the ocean is scary because we can tell on a biological level that we're not supposed to be in this kinda enviroment and are easy prey for any predator (compared to how humanity dominated the food chain on land)
But faggots go "ZOMG WOT IF U WERE IN OCEAN BUT LE SCARY LIMINAL ANALOG HORROR SEA MONSTER SHOWED UP LOLZ"
>>
>>728994981
Deep oceans are fucking terrifying but le spooky animals are so divorced from the reason why. Hell seeing that things live in the deep water is mildly comforting because it's not just a lifeless pitch-black crushing void that extends far beyond the tiny distance you can see: there's a funny jellyfish too.
>>
>>728995628
>You're going to absolutely shit yourself if you see some boat swallowing monstrosity coming up
Yes, but that is not what I am terrified of when I'm in deep water. You literally just don't get it.
>>
>>728995450
>anything, even touching me is something unexpected and teriffying.
literally me but also on land
t. almost jumped out of my chair when a nearby stray cat patted my leg to meow for food
>>
>>728995648
>Deep oceans are fucking terrifying
no, i think zoomers are just scared of everything
>>
>>728994813
what mod is this
>>
>>728995450
Listen here you stupid nigger: EVERY HUMAN IN THE WORLD HAS THIS FEAR, IT'S A NATURAL REACTION TO BEING IN AN ENVIRONMENT THAT LEAVES YOU VULNERABLE TO BEINGS BETTER ADAPTED TO IT. A phobia is irrational, being afraid of open water is NOT irrational, it's just your survival instinct kicking in.
>>
>>728994813
Has anyone else gotten like..."spook" fatigue or fear fatigue or something?
I simply refuse to believe that you, a grown ass man, are afraid of shit you are seeing on a screen.
I'm starting to think that "phobias" are just a meme thing designed to get attention like the sexuality and gender schizophrenia.
>>
>>728995690
>deep oceans aren't scary because zoomers are scared of them.
you are such a nigger it's unreal
>>
>>728995662
Alright so you're bitchmade and literally afraid of water.
I, the chad, am afraid of the VASTNESS and what it could be hiding.
>>
>>728995720
I have never met another person who had to close their eyes in an aquarium. I have been in lakes with other people and realized I was far more scared of the water than the people around me. This is a fear from my childhood that everyone around me used to tease me about. Yes, I do have a stronger fear of deep water than most people.
>>
Well, according to /v/, nothing can be scary if zoomers are scared of it, so I guess we're all fearless, right?
>>
>>728995789
>am afraid of the VASTNESS and what it could be hiding
>drowns
>>
It's not our element. There's a reason the majority of the ocean's depths are unexplored. We LITERALLY cannot exist underwater for longer than a few minutes. Technology hasn't caught up yet to allow humans to roam the depths like how they do in Star Wars with hydro jetpacks and bite resistant armor.
We swim at 3 mph in an environment where animals swim at 70 mph. It's an inherent human fear that all humans should have unless your brain is broken and you are prone to death by something dangerous due to lack of fear (being fearless means you won't instinctively flinch when something fast sneaks up on you and you'll just die instead)

Yes. Yes I am. Being scared of big scary creatures is just horror shit 101. Stuff you only see in movies and therefore not a real fear.
>>
lmao zoomies are scared of fish?
>>
>>728995450
>>728995808
Someone like Ulillilla had a genuine phobia of water, and guess what? The fucker managed to shower and go swimming in lakes with enough work, you're just a fucking pussy gassing up a perfectly natural fear.
>>
I'm scared of NIGGERS!
>>
There's a part in Abzu (comfy underwater exploring game) where you swim with some blue whales and go faaaaaaar underwater, ending up at the ocean floor and it's very dark. Made me very uncomfortable, I dunno if it's intended to be beautiful and scary at the same time
>>
>>728995918
I'm not trying to gas it up. I would say it's a pretty lame fear and makes me look like a bitch. I just think it's annoying that people think posting epic scary monsters underwater is somehow the same thing.
>>
>>728995953
>dunno if it's intended to be beautiful and scary at the same time
I'm certified enough in diving to use Nitrox and yes, that's how it feels like.
>>
>>728995890
Zoomies, having never left their metropolitan areas, couldn't quite make sense of how the ocean is scary. Their main interactions with deep water being with public swimming pools or bathtubs, zoomoids don't know simply being in the ovean rapidly saps your strength and bodyheat as the unthinking water thrashes you around, fills your lungs as you grow increasingly tired, making each breath more laborious when you're already exhausted, before it pulls you under and turns you into marine snow.
>>
>>728995918
>The fucker managed to shower
He was only afraid of blue water, not white water.
>>
>TCOAAL thread deleted
Why is this one still up you worthless subhuman tranitor? Kill yourself
>>
>>728995450
well that's a (You) problem
i love water, i love the sea, i swim regularly to the point i don't see the shore, yet i have this deep primal fear of a cthulthu-sized underwater creature coming out from the abyss
don't see why your fear should be more relevant than mine. just find some mod where your character starts crying whenever there's a body of water or something
>>
What made me realize I have this phobia is when I watched a video that showed how different open world games handle trying to swim out into the ocean
>>
What 'phobia is it called where I'm scared that if I ever have sex with a woman that she will have such intense orgasms that they will kill her? Cause thats what keeps me awake at night.
>>
>>728995770
i've been out on the deep ocean a few times and no, it's not fucking scary. its a little unnerving at night because you can't see anything, but otherwise, its just water
pussy faggot
>>
>>728996070
>yet i have this deep primal fear of a cthulthu-sized underwater creature coming out from the abyss
Ok, but that's not Thalassophobia. Its just normal monster shit like a kid being scared of the darkness under their bed.
>>
>>728996070
>don't see why your fear should be more relevant than mine
Collossal squids, giant great whites and whales big enough to kill and eat both exist and yet you're significantly more likely to die of exposure.
>>
>>728995789
There's nothing with admitting you're gay, everybody already knows.

It's called being a closeted homo.
>>
>>728996019
I got the basic bitch certificate and went for a dive at some volcano-island.
The island itself rose from the ocean floor and is basically a huge pillar, which means that there's a relatively small area in which you can see the bottom.

The sheer drop-off into the abyss at the island bottom had me sweating bullets. Didn't help there was a current trying to drag you off the island.

Don't know what I was thinking getting a diver-certificate in the first place, but I haven't had a reason to dive since.
>>
>>728996135
>its a little unnerving at night
It's just darkness pussy faggot get over yourself. It's called a "flashlight".

Man was not meant to swim in the middle of the ocean alone
>>

>>
>>728996307
Managed to make it past the scary darkness that permeates the staircase leading out of yourmother's basement yet lil' bro?
>>
>>728996367
i've been in a cave before, but it was a big one. i wouldn't go full caving though, or cave diving
>>
>>728996396
Bro your drysuit?
>>
>>728996412
>thirdies can't even imagine being able to afford a light for their staircase
>>
I bet half of you niggers can't even swim
>>
>out of everything mentioned itt, the staircase is the thing most likely to kill or injure you
I love familiarity, shit's hilarious.
>>
>>728996525
It's only the most likely because the average person spends significantly longer time of their life on staircases than in the ocean
>>
>>728996553
That's the most amusing part, people would look at you like you're a fucking alien if you said you have a phobia of stairs.

Are you kidding? The visual of a staircase going down or up into some dark eerie room is quintessential horror, especially if there's a sharp bend somewhere in there. I fucking guarantee there's a sizeable amount of people who developed a fear of stairs from this fucker's scene.
>>
>>728996135
This, deep ocean isn't really as bad as people think is just dont be swimming at night or in a storm and you're fine
>>
>>728996309

Extra buoyancy in the salt water
>>
>>728996965
No, extra buoyancy in any water.
>>
>>728997036
Wrong you fucking retard, it's extra buoyancy in any liquid
>>
>>728996898
I know it's not bad but I'm still not a fan. I did some snorkeling over open ocean near some school of shiny fish and I couldn't do it for more than a handful of minutes before returning to the boat. Diving in reefs is fine, hell I've done night dives and they were positively magical, but if I can't see the bottom I can't deal with it for long.
Giant's Deep in outer wilds made me panic more than any real horror game has; getting stuck in the water because of the high gravity actually made me start sweating.

That's not what either 'Phobia' or the 'Irrational part' is.
A phobia is generally characterized by a loss of control, with the irrationality being the 'overreaction' to whatever is inciting it. An arachnophobe having to leave their house for a few hours (I've done this) because of a spider the size of a penny is what's irrational.
Anyone could jump at the sight of a spider, sure. But only an arachnophobe will experience the sort of fear that embodies a loss of control/their actions.
But this board is brown and retarded and nobody knows what anything means and tries to stay ignorant because being angry about stupid shit is better than being educated about anything.

Yeah. The animals on land are scary enough. They got speed, agility, strength, venom. Most animals have a way of killing you in brutal, painful ways.
The ocean is scary because of all that pressure, no landmarks in any direction. Just an endless black you can never understand. It's possible that you might get some kind of torch you can point around and illuminate nothing.

you'd think the people responding to you would be able to understand given that many of them are anomalous in their way of thinking, apparently not. not a real phobia for me but pic rel is scary. i remember encountering a mudflat as a kid, I very stupidly had the courage to walk a few steps before I realized how easy it would be to sink. the image of the place never left my head

imagining impossibly huge and unnecessarily vicious nonexistent creatures that live in the unexplored depths of the ocean is pretty irrational imo especially when whales exist
