pokefags, I summon theehow good is this game for a beginner jumping into the series?I liked it more because of the in-world combat and quicker transitions, but I will just bite the bullet and buy S/V if Arceus is lacking in those bigger, more epic fights even though the DLC is a huge turn offI do like gathering and crafting a lot if that changes things
>>728998826This is the only recent pokemon game that's actually good. Skip all the others and only play this one.
>>728998826If you're legitimately a beginner to Pokemon you should start with the actually good games instead of this trash. Play FireRed and LeafGreen, then if you like that, then play Emerald, then Platinum, then the rest of the DS games after that in chronological order.
>>728998826>how good is this game for a beginner jumping into the series? It's nothing like any other game in the series but it from combat or overworld gameplay. Just play FRLG or HGSS if you want to try something one of the originals but with quality of life changes. That will actually show you how Pokemon generally is.>I do like gathering and crafting a lot if that changes thingsCrafting is borderline pointless in this game because you can buy everything and gain ridiculous amounts of money just for catching stuff to facilitate it. There's never a reason to opt for anything but basic Pokeballs, you can catch everything with them and the rates aren't crazy better on higher tiers or the Sky/Heavy balls. Just backstab a Pokemon with a catch and chain backstab until you catch it. The AI isn't smart enough to turn quickly and has a second and a half leeway once it breaks to throw another ball. Plus you can just smoke bomb your way to whatever you need which can also be purchased.>even though the DLC is a huge turn offWhat do you even mean by this? The DLC for both SWSH and SV is generally regarded as the better part of both games.
I simply do not understand why people say this game is good80% of it is just catching the same pokemens 20 times in a row
>>728999326Pokemonfags don't play any other games, so they think this game is amazing simply because it's different.
>>728998826Easily the best single player pokemon game on the switch if you don't mind a more catching/exploring focused game
>>728999326Because of exactly what you dislike about it. It's solely about the catching experience which is the best part of Pokemon and sidelines the boring part which is the combat. Filling out the Pokedex, getting the Shiny Charm, doing the Souls boss fights, and fighting Volo are by far the best parts of the game. If youa re a combat-focused fan of Pokemon of course you'll dislike it. If you like catching it's one of the best games in the series because it heavily improves the entire experience. Then Z-A goes full retard and does everything worse somehow.
>>728999263>play older, better gamesNot interested, leaning modern>>728999290>That will actually show you how Pokemon generally isI might've worded it wrong. I'm not looking to get into the franchise, just looking for a fun game so It doesn't matter whether it represents other games well or not>What do you even mean by this?DLCs cost almost as much as the game, unless I am mistaken>>728999459I do mind it if it's lacking in big fights where you have to have a proper team, or where they keep pulling out one pokemon after another
>>728998826entire series is dog shit
>>728999731>Not interested, leaning modernlmfao why. the switch games are utter slop. go play emerald or platinum or black 2 then stick to romhacks and fangames
>>728999731>just looking for a fun game so It doesn't matter whether it represents other games well or notThen if you like the Pokedex-filling aspect of Pokemon it's worth it, if you just want cool fights you won't. The game actively discourages getting into battles for the most part with backstab captures, sneaking around, the high damage you take especially from alpha Pokemon, and trainers mostly have two or three Pokemon barring the final hour or so of trainers.>DLCs cost almost as much as the game, unless I am mistakenThey're $35 but they're like 40+ hours and come with a lot of quality of life stuff on top of much more side content to work with.>I do mind it if it's lacking in big fights where you have to have a proper team, or where they keep pulling out one pokemon after anotherThat's left towards endgame and postgame patch content via a pseudo Battle Tower thing.
>>728999857>whyBecause he's a zoomer, duhDid you not notice in the OP how he said he likes survival crafting dogshit?
>>728998826>how good is this game for a beginner jumping into the series? It's fine, but never play anything after it. It's all shit.Modern Pokémon is not worth anyone's time.
>>728998826I think PLA is the kind of thing only long term fans would really appreciate since it's pretty low quality as a game. As is every mainline pokemon game on the Switch, bar maybe let's go pikachuPlay the 2D games with emulator speed up, best you'll get there
>>728999910i just can't imagine playing a modern pokemon and getting into the series that way or finding the shitty game enjoyable. you have to be groomed into playing this garbage from a young age
>>728999910>Did you not notice in the OP how he said he likes survival crafting dogshit? Why not play Palworld then?
>>729000007The very post you quoted said he doesn't give a fuck about getting into the series
>>728999857there are many reasons to prefer modern releases of franchises just like how there are many reasons to prefer older, more established releasesand if you can't recognize this very simple fact you are either a retard or a disingenuous faggot
I played Red, Yellow, and a bit of Gold as a kidBy now I have emulated>FR>HG>Emerald>White 1 and 2Next up is Platinum. Are SM the only ones still worth playing after that?
>>729000105Play Ultra S/M, they're better versions of S/M.Sword and Shield is where the decline in quality truly started but they're not totally bad games. Yuzu/Ryujinxx runs them fine.
>>729000105>S&M>Worth playing. They're railroaded to hell, Hau is awful with his malasada obsession, and the Rotom phone sucks. It's better than SWSH but not that much better. USUM doesn't improve much either.X&Y are fine they're just more like 3D tech demos than anything else but again, fine.SWSH is terrible and the DLC is the only thing that salvages it. It makes every mistake S&M makes and more.SV is fine as a whole. Most of the issues are strictly due to launch though if you don't have a Switch 2 enjoy 20 FPS with drops. Lots of people's opinions were soured on this because of the launch exclusively, and particularly the multiplayer aspect. I've dumped like 400 hours or more into it like a year after launch (Whenever the first Iron Thorns/Roaring Moon raid was) and outside of the framerate and some Pokemon spawning in walls/underwater I've had zero issues. Switch 2 also ironed out all the framerate issues.
>>729000039Not very true for pokemon, since they have little merit. The new games aren't even more snappy to play since it uses all the same systems and presentation as the gameboy. The exceptions being PLA and PLZA, which aren't really representative of the seriesThe only particular difference is that the level design of the newer games are much worse and there's "QoL" in the form of systematically removing any sort of choice or difficulty so nothing you do feels like it matters. It's difficult for me to justify recommending them since they have few positive qualities
>>729000327>They're railroaded to hellSo just like gen 1?
>>729000368S&M has routes that are straight lines or offer no deviation whatsoever constantly. The caves have nothing in them except being a straight line with maybe one side road to take a picture of something.Even when gen 1 is doing straight lines (Like the path to Cerulean or Bill) it has you constantly going up and down paths, dealing with unavoidable trainers, forcing jumps you can't go back from, hides stuff in side areas, etc.
>>728998826>I will just bite the bullet and buy S/V if Arceus is lacking in those bigger, more epic fights even though the DLC is a huge turn offArceus has some boss fights but they’re kinda shitty compared to the ones in the other Legend game, it’s mostly about backshotting Pokemon in the overworld with Pokeballs; combat elements are the simplest in the series
>>729000327The problem with SV isn't just the graphics and launch bugs. The game tries to be open world, but it doesn't add anything to balance that aspect. Either you follow a linear route and have a balanced experience, or you end up with a level that's too high or too low for an area or battle. That's terrible game design if the intention is really to create an open world. It's a faux Open World experience. The Pokémon designs are also very bad. There's a reason why few Generation 9 Pokémon became popular. Most of them are forgettable.
>>729000571>Either you follow a linear route and have a balanced experience, or you end up with a level that's too high or too low for an area or battle. This is all open world games the entire genre is a meme
>>729000368Gen 1's "railroading" are routes and dungeons to navigate and some roadblocks you must explore to get passed. It's relatively open ended in how you want to progress for much of the game.Gen 7's railroading is listening to Lillie whine about her mom, and then you walk down a hall to listen to her do it again, and that's the entire game.
>>728999898>They're $35 but they're like 40+ hours and come with a lot of quality of life stuff on top of much more side content to work with.do I need them from the get go or is the QoL limited to newer DLC regions?and is there a site where I can check their price across regions? Usually I switch regions to buy from the cheapest eshops but DLC prices aren't listed on the site I use
>>729000571>but it doesn't add anything to balance that aspect.Like the other guy said, that's most open world experiences, but I can agree at least. Level scaling really should have existed for the gyms.>>729000734>do I need them from the get go or is the QoL limited to newer DLC regions? It's in the newer DLC regions. In SWSH if I remember right they make EV training easier and grant you a bunch of previous games' legendaries, in SV it grants you an easy way to make infinite money and Tera Shards.
>>729000669Nta Gen 1 is only “open ended” in that you can willfully walk past a couple gyms in the mid game for no real reason
>>729000806>Level scaling really should have existed for the gyms. And this is consistent with the lore, because in previous games (and in some anime adaptations) the team used by the gym leaders is based on the opponent's skill level; after all, they are there to teach the trainers and prepare them for the league, not to wall them.
>>729000967If you don't have a good match up, then you can come back to it laterYou can also do the entirely optional dungeons for the birds, and there's some routes you don't even ever have to cross, like the bike pathIt's a chill time
>>728998826Palworld is better
>>729000967Can't you just skip Lt.Surge too or something?I remember Erika, Koga and Sabrina can be done at any order, but I think you can skip Lt.Surge too.
>>728999326Catching the pokemon in bulk and doing the tasks was fun.Not having to enter a slow ass combat and beat a Mon into red to capture them was great.I also loved being the evil team for once.
>>729000335>the newer games are much worse and there's "QoL" in the form of systematically removing any sort of choice or difficulty so nothing you do feels like it mattersThis.
>>729000571>The Pokémon designs are also very bad. There's a reason why few Generation 9 Pokémon became popular. Most of them are forgettable.so every single gen past 1, how is it different
>>729002680>it's been getting worse for decades, this means you're not allowed to complain
>>729003218I think you guys try too hard to construct a meta narrative about the “declining monster design quality”, Gen 4 and 5 are the low point easily
My friend just drew this, please appreciate it.

>>728998826Legends series is one of the worst ways to introduce yourself to the IP.
You should start with Ranger
>>729002543Is this supposed to be a point against my claim? In the newer games you don't even have to buy anything because there's pretty much a landfill of healing items and pokeballs on the ground. You don't have to commit to any moves you learn or TM you teach because they can be changed any time in the menu for free and TMs are consumables. Your pokemon can be swapped out from the PC from the pause menu. You can go up to the ugly glowing raid rocks for free exp candies. HMs aren't an obstruction because they don't exist. Almost every pokemon has good coverage within their movepools and learn good moves at low levels so you'll never be caught off guard. You get to use the gimmick of the gen anytime you want while the only NPCs that can are gym leaders. There are no dungeons. You're handed strong pokemon and legendaries freely.Nothing I do matters
>>729000629and Pokemon does it even worse to the point that it's a detriment to treat it as such.
>>729003714gen 2 isn't the best at anything. you'll reply with some meme shit like "vibes", but the games are garbage. awful dex, boring ass region full of underleveled shitters and KANTOOO pokemon, garbage gyms, neurtered kanto. if you think gen 2 is good whatsoever, its because of nostalgia. the gen is bad.

>>728998826Long time Pokefag. I really only enjoy the Legends games (and romhacks) anymore. I say go for it if you're genuinely interested.
>>728998826No, it's dogshit. Shitty controls and clunky as fuck gameplay. Almost no trainer battles, it's wild encounters 99% of the time which is repetitive boring autistic shit. Legends Arceus is great if you only care about pokemon as a collectathon like a casual basic bitch, but that's not what makes the series GOOD.The prime appeal of pokemon is battle strategy. Most games are an easy cakewalk vs the NPCs where you can just spam the strongest attack. But the older games manage the difficulty curve better than modern games that literally stroke your dick and eat your cum letting you win every fight without effort. The best games to enter the series with are Platinum and Black/White. They have most of the major mechanics introduced slowly over time to the series, and a tough enough level curve to kick your ass and provide a challenge.
>tough enough level curve to kick your ass and provide a challenge.fucking LOL
>The prime appeal of pokemon is battle strategy.
>>729003923That's basically all done to make building mons for competitive not a pain in the ass. Hopefully with Champions releasing and VGC moving there the mainline games can reintroduce some scarcity.
if you're going with S/V please consider Scarlet. My reason is that the premise of the game is there's a mysterious crater in the middle of the region with mysterious pokemon in it. In Scarlet, they're ancient prehistoric versions of known pokemon, and that's pretty cool. In Violet, they're mecha versions of existing pokemon from the future, which is cool enough but way less cool than prehistoric pokemon.
>>729004547kek you got the scat vomit shit eater seething
>>728999731The problem lies on the modern. After Gen5, they stripped Masuda off his director role and displaced it over Ohmori combined with the investors. Since Gen6 onwards, the games started incomplete, outdated, trivialized, out of objectives and unengaging. If you really want to start on modern Pokémon rather than on stuff like Crystal, Emerald, FireRed/LeafGreen or Platinum, go instead play Digimon Time Stranger, Palworld or Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance, because, with modern Pokémon games, it's what you're going to actually play once you play stuff like Scarlet, Legends or Sword, and you'll quit earlygame for the games being so awful and having no engagement to keep you playing it.
>>729004924This was debunked.
>>729004924Like, I agree with you but I also understand why OP doesn't want to play some 2 bit rpgmaker game man cmon
>>729005031The Masuda part is outright exposed on the Teraleak, and the current state of the games is seen by everyone. Just ask everywhere if anyone would buy a mainline Pokémon game outside of competitive/VGC rather than any other JRPG and you'll get what you ask, unless you get an answer from a dude addicted to Pokemon GO and nostalgia merch. There is a reason why Pokémon has its own board and it's the worst fanbase to ever exist after MLP.>>729005129What are you talking about? Current Pokemon games are mocked by normalfags of all things for having PSX graphics. Even old 3D games like Pokémon Battle Revolution and Colosseum have better graphics than the current ones, and I'm not lying, play them and see with your own eyes.
>>729005935>If Pokemon did not have the things that made it good people wouldn’t buy itRiveting stuff man. I play the games primarily to experiment with the hundreds of party members and engage in player/party customization.
>Just ask everywhere if anyone would buy a mainline Pokémon game

First we experienced the Dexit, culling the National Pokėdex in favor of a "Modern Pokédex" easier to complete. Now it's so trivial, up to the point of fans coping in the form of maiing a "Living Dex" for Pokémon HOME (which is ironically locked under monthly subs), ...and now a living "ALPHA" dex? This is why the modern Pokémon games get worse each year: because flagrant fanboys like (You), coping into finding new ways to make use of a shit game like McGuyver trying to make airplanes out of scraps, that Nintendo will never have a reason to make decent games as long as you keep buying them due to your fanatism over the brand.

Arceus and ZA are completely changing how Pokemon plays at a baseline, and I would honestly recommend either of them if you want to "get into" the series. Maybe try Platinum and XY if you want extended context for the Sinnoh and Kalos Regions. It's increasingly hard for me to recommend the 2D classic games as an entry point, because of how dated their systems have become now. And since turn-based battles are moving to the Champions App in a few months, I'm thinking the devs are finished with the old style too.
>>729006915I actually have two. The first one was a male which I forgot to keep Spore on (This was before they patched in the ability to get it if you didn't evolve with it) so I was going to send it to BDSP to keep it there since the Move Relearner could get it Spore back at the time, but then I decided to get another one because I needed a Spore False Cutter. Both were found just randomly wandering around where Shroomish spawn, not even an outbreak. Just used a normal level 2 grass encounter sandwich with no shiny increase buff and just roamed for like two hours since I had the Shiny Charm. Would have been even faster if I had a Switch 2 when I did it but it wasn't out yet.
