This one was pretty bad. If you do everything right she gets slowly washed away in a cutscene like the game is telling you how bad you fucked up.

But Cave Story's 2nd ending was designed for obsessive sequence breakers who played the game a million times and took every possible option. That's why Hell is such a difficulty spike: you're expected to know the game inside out by then. In practice everyone just looks it up though
