I've been wanting to get into Castlevania for a while but no one can seem to agree on which game is the best to start with. I've gotten a lot of people insisting on Symphony though.

If Aria got a remake that kept all the game design and layout the exact same but raised its A/V fidelity to level of SotN's, there would be absolutely no contest to it being the best game in the series.

>>729003240This. I love Aria of Sorrow, Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, but Order of Ecclesia wound up being my favorite. They're all almost on the same level, with Aria just being very dated. The DS games are phenomenal, with Ecclesia just coming out in the lead. Plus the protag chick, Shanoa, is beautiful and I like to see her kick ass.I really like Soma though, he's my bro, and the music from Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow holds a special place in my heart.I hated the glyph boss kills in Dawn of Sorrow on DS though, having to draw that shit quickly, and having to redo the fight if you mess up and the boss kills you after you have to weaken it again to get another chance at drawing it. Stupid system. Luckily I bought the Dominus collection on Switch for Christmas so I'll have them portable with most of the good features emulation had, and no touch screen shit.

Damn near every single one makes for a better game than the base game except Shooter but Shooter is still a fun gimmick playthrough all the same. The fact that it was the last game with a proper Thief mode will always piss me off.

I actually started with Circle of the Moon and loved it as a kid, but the other anons are right when they say that it seems a bit clunky now. Dawn of Sorrow is the only direct sequel out of the metroidvanias so you should play Aria of Sorrow first, and Order of Ecclesia is fun but is kind of different from the rest. Harmony of Dissonance is okay, but kind of meh.
