>Oh, it will be with swords'n'shit?
>Yeah, probably
Dunno, dude. Doom Dark Ages happened, i guess.
It's a game that was put together.
>>
Dark Ages seems to be the only game that did
>Parries vs lots of enemies/projectiles
well. Every game from ULTRAKILL to DMC makes it so at best you can chain parries in sequence to deal with multiple enemy attacks/parrying an army, but ultimately the parries are designed to parry one projectile in a while and otherwise the enemies are either fought from a distance, or only attack with a sequence once in a while

>What went wrong?
1. forced raytracing, at a time when half the PC population is still stuck on a 2014 shitbox and new hardware isn't cheap
2. 80 EUROS for a linear singleplayer-only game
3. people have had a degree of nuDoom fatigue since Eternal's DLCs
4. the dragon sections are really shit
5. while the story isn't nearly as retarded as The Ancient Gods, it's still going to grate people who hate nuDoom trying to force a story

A lot of things, but funnily enough very little of it is actual gameplay concerns.

The game has forced RT. A big appeal of the previous nuDooms was that they really ran on potatoes. Now TDA is actually very performant for an RT-heavy game, you can get 1080p60fps with something as weak as an RTX2060. But at the end of the day forced RT still excludes poorfags and users with older AMD cards, and people got used to 2016 and Eternal being extremely poorfag-friendly.

Denuvo. No pirating the game = again a lot of people are excluded, hype lessens.

Game cost 80 euros and was available on Goypass on release. Goypass had some sale around TDA's release, something like 2 bucks for 14 days of access. I took that, played TDA, cancelled my subscription, moved on. Why pay 80 euros for a fairly short corridor shooter game when you can just do this? I imagine a lot of other people did the same.

Heavy emphasis on story. Doom story was always better when it was minimalistic. TDA once again tried to push the story angle. Now thankfully it was nowhere NEAR as retarded in terms of story as The Ancient God DLCs for Eternal.. but it's not great either.

Mick Gordon seethe. A lot of online fags are rabidly angry at nu-Id for getting rid of Mick Gordon. Funny thing is that the third game's OST is quite solid and never stood out to me as a detracting quality, but hey that's boring trivia that pales in comparison to the fun drama of Mick Gordon.

And people are just kinda tired of nuDoom. It's not some brave new thing anymore. But when it comes to gameplay concerns, the dragon flight levels are just way too long and annoying. Imagine if you had to do the revenant piloting thing in Eternal for like 4 hours of the campaign.

I mean, TDAs switch to melee focused parry based Serious Sam is certainly a new for games in general, especially after Eternals popularity

This. Especially after eternal wrapped the 2016 plot up. Also eternals plot was shit. Turning doomguy into god or whatever was dumb and my nigga Hayden being shelved instead of a Vergil esque rival after the 2016 sword cliffhanger was dumb.

A lot of NuDOOMs popularity was it dunking on the regenerating heath military shooter design of the mid 2000s. Even if the dark ages mixed things up its popularity would always dwindle as the boom shooters returned.
