What are some games with a simulated world where you start as some nobody with barely anything to their name, and can build up to running an economic empire ?

I'm referring to games like Starsector, the X series from Egosoft, Mount & Blade, Kenshi to a lesser extent (as the empire building isn't very fleshed out).

You basically listed all the big ones.

It's very old but Tachyon: The Fringe does something sorta like that as a more narrative led title as well. Space Pirates And Zombies 2 is superficially like that too, but it's a bit retarded as the name suggests.

Implying anything's fleshed out in Kenshi.
Game's as wide as an ocean, but as shallow as a puddle.

What about that weeb roguelike Elona? How deep does that rabbit hole go? Or is it just like a base you decorate?

That's only if you enjoy rogue-like grinding hell games. I FUCKING HATE THESE PATTERN CAPTCHAS
